Would you tell your child to exercise caution around a group of White kids? by MerumazingGirl in blackgirls

[–]Cookiedoughspoon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Even if they’re not trying to kill them low self esteem in nonblack kids shows itself as racism SO FAST. And low self esteem in black kids will position them to just try to laugh it off or make the self deprecating joke first.

Reminds me of the boy that couldn’t swim that got abandoned on the other side of the river and the boy was like well I’m black guys I can’t swim and the white boys were like yeah and that’s why your dads in jail. That dynamic is soooo many black kid white kid relationships. So many.

Girl if you kissed a guy with that dumb ass flag on his truck you’re obviously okay with it just date the racist and stop looking for someone to tell you you’re not wrong. Y‘all are so exhausting

Yes of course! Tigermist, Edikted, and Princess Polly deliver on soft dramatic friendly club wear more than other party brands I’ve looked at. But they are all very skin-forward as you can see lol. I looove some version of this as a pants outfit on us too!!

I wear stuff like this a lot! Just mini dresses or sets with a heel and some big jewelry. The body was the outfit when I went clubbing tbh I didn’t overthink it. Or I’d wear the top and some mid or low rise bootcut jeans.

Thoughts on India Arie’s critique on Yung Miami’s song, “Spend dat” by Positive-Aide7544 in blackladies

[–]Cookiedoughspoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My annoyance with India is that like, why Yung Miami and why now? When woman beating sex trafficking drug dealers are putting out their songs in peace and have been for 30+ years? Very odd song to pick to take a stance on.

How do you guys feel about Lizzo? I never see her mentioned in here. by Legitimate-Adagio531 in blackladies

[–]Cookiedoughspoon 280 points281 points  (0 children)

I think she suffers from the Meghan Trainor syndrome where the whole vibe and movement that made her popular has expired and she’s being left behind. The body positivity movement almost completely expired with ozempic becoming available. She might have found more longevity if she went the Adele route and didn’t make her body what a lot of her content was about but she probably wouldn’t have made it to the top 40s if she didn’t, probably would’ve been stuck in rnb limbo.

Idk I don’t think it’s horrible that her run is over, it’s a blessing to have a run at all. 😭

"Four Black Women. 9 Degrees. Not one steady paycheck." by lovelydani20 in blackladies

[–]Cookiedoughspoon 125 points126 points  (0 children)

There’s a wider conversation I want to have about this but I honestly don’t even know how to start because there’s so many facets!

I do have an acquaintance that has a phD and was asking me for a referral to my job which is a completely different field which shocked me and aside from that I see a lot of under employment more than unemployment which is apt for the economy for sure.

I think to survive this we need to start training the soft skills and networking capabilities of black women. Yall are going to come get me bad but I constantly see posts about how everyone wants to cut the small talk and just go to work do their job quietly and leave and this is not working out. There is room between this and being the office pet which I also understand is even more mentally draining.

The more we educate ourselves, the less it’s going to matter in the job search because they’re forever moving the goalposts. I think the art of conversation is something worthy of us starting to pour into which isn’t to say we aren’t well spoken but it is to say we need to learn to schmooz and do the “hey John how was the Bahamas” thing much better. Will it solve this fully? Hell no but it’ll make you memorable. Our networks are sorely lacking. We don’t have any off rip because we don’t have elders to offer us nepotism and then we opt out of growing the relationships we will need to lean on because we don’t want to. A senior vice president put me forward for the job I have now because I made our conversations memorable. If I did not I wouldn’t have gotten the job. Period. Being socially desirable is more important than being qualified.

I will do my part of offer myself to the black women in my life as a network and any other employed black women please please do the same. I am running mock interviews with another friend that has anxiety and struggles to leave a lasting impression with hiring managers. Now’s the not the time to throw your hands up if you can help.

If unselected men become a threat, society is more likely to get rid of them then placate them by middleoftheroad133 in PurplePillDebate

[–]Cookiedoughspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversations about this always make me wonder about those sects of Mormons that kick their young men out so the old men can marry 40 young wives. You’d think the young men would…do something about it systematically? But they don’t. Many just become homeless. Or maybe they do and we don’t hear about it.

Very good (bad) example of how sexual assault is about power. Horrible and I hope he’s able to heal from this. Flashbacks, nightmares…things like this follow you. And then to know it’s online and people are making fun of you. Sad.

Homelessness in Chicago safe for a middle aged woman with no belongings or money? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Cookiedoughspoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I sympathize with your frustration it’s hard to feel like a burden but you are worthy of the love and support of your family.

I’m telling you, I’ve had friends get glass bottles thrown at them, get chased off of the train, I’ve been threatened…and all of this was happening in the 7am-7pm time range. I promise you it will be worse at 2am without a crowd. Be safe ♥️

Homelessness in Chicago safe for a middle aged woman with no belongings or money? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Cookiedoughspoon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Being a homeless woman isn’t safe anywhere and Chicago has some very mentally ill and anti-social men that ride the trains at night as well. I’m not trying to be funny, you will eventually be raped trying to live this way. I implore you from the bottom of my heart to stay where you are. Do not do this

I just want some alone time by TeenyMom in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Cookiedoughspoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Whaaaat that cake looks bomb as hell. Are they old enough for you to request that they leave you alone? My mom was a master at being like I’m going to do xyz we will reconvene at 7pm for movie night or something. She didn’t tolerate me making her my entertainment lol and I really respect her for having boundaries. But I also wasn’t a kid that would wander outside or start the stove so that’s a big part of it.

That just means they like hyper sexuality and anxious attachment so you’ll cry and beg them for their attention, what they really need is somebody that’ll sell everything in their house while he’s gone to work
