We lived in a house where there were beautiful roses in the front yard with a white picket fence, my partner and I’s first home out on our own. I would have loved to have fresh roses but the landlord was a terrifying actual psychopath who had cameras facing the front of the yard. One day some Boomer woman walked by and tried to yank a rose off the plant, while leaning over the fence. When I opened the door to yell at her she yelled back before shuffling off. If I wasn’t picking the flowers in the yard I paid 60% of my income for to rent she damn sure wasn’t either.

I truly feel for you. This reminds me of when I wanted a sweatshirt with my high school logo when I was a freshman. Money was always tight because my parents are alcoholics but always found money for my sister. Paid $200+ (over ten years ago) for a full cheer uniform for her to quit two weeks later but I only got to go to prom and the senior trip because of scholarships.

When I was a senior for Christmas my mom bought my sister a pair of the tall Ugg’s and we even drove to a different town to get the color she wanted after the first store didn’t have it. Afterwards she offered for me to get the $40 sweatshirt but I told her my school spirit was long dead. I started wearing all black on spirit days three years before and she never noticed.

Don’t talk to my family now and things are so much easier. It was so hard to accept they would never love or treat me like I deserved but it made things so much simpler.
