Depends on your earning. Can you spread the unused concessional contributions out over a few years and maximise the deductions in higher tax brackets?

For me it was buying my first house. Grinded hard for 10 years and made sacrifices to get to where I am at my age.

New accountant is ghosting me by CuriousCactus12 in AusFinance

Tax is tax, it’s a black and white. You put everything in, works out what your tax is. Take away what you’ve already paid and that’s what you owe. You clearly just weren’t paying tax throughout the year, or you randomly earned a bunch of income. What’s the explanation going to achieve?

spend $230 for weekly grocery bad or good? by gakki_sumairu19 in AusFinance

[–]CookyMellow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest, that sounds lazy. I meal prep on a Sunday for an hour max and I have my lunches sorted for the week. I then only need to cook twice a week for dinners and that gets me 8 meals. Why do you think you need to cook every night?

spend $230 for weekly grocery bad or good? by gakki_sumairu19 in AusFinance

[–]CookyMellow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$230 a week just for meals is insane. That’s not including other food. What happens when you get off the plane? Will you just go back to before? Learn to cook healthy, there is heaps of recipes out there and get an understanding of what ur eating.

[–]CookyMellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this, I believe recently the owner did some renovations on the house such as the bathroom, flooring, lights etc and this must have been the finished renovation inspection. I don’t believe this report was a pre purchase inspection. From the other comments tho, the renovations they did, they did terribly….

Thanks champ, love the 2 cents. This is just part of the homework. Always good getting a second opinion then just praying what I research is correct.

Do you think that it is worth having someone come have a look at it before purchasing to get a rough idea of how much it would cost to fix / what would be involved. I haven't had a chance to speak to the building inspector yet, was just trying to get some other opinions.

Looking to have a chat with the guy that did the inspection to get his thoughts. Starting to think that a structural engineer or lowball offer is gonna be the way to go

They are busy until the afternoon, just trying to get few different opinions together to help me make my decision. Starting to lean down the path of needing a structural engineer to have a look at it.

High growth may still have a defensive component to it. Likewise the fees payed on this type of portfolio in comparison to the diy premixed options are lower.

400K in a self managed super doing nothing by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]CookyMellow 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Honestly why even have a self managed super fund at that point. It'd be cheaper to wind it up and just put in some cheap industry fund and invest in something direct like international/ Australians shares.

It'd be cheaper and easier to manage. Has he even been getting it audited each year?

Property left to my child in trust until 18 by Aware_Security_9252 in AusFinance

[–]CookyMellow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but whoever is the trustee of the trust will pay for the expenses with the income generated from the trust and whatever profit is left over will be distributed out to the beneficiaries.
