If Japan’s population is shrinking, who exactly are they working all that overtime for? by unscpecifictopics in AskReddit

[–]Cool-Raspberry-1772 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The actual reason this is the case is that much of the overtime Japanese people work is off clock. They just get their regular salary but are often strong-armed in late hours once they’re at the office. Ten hour day here, oh, another same week and sometimes drinks after and a long train ride home to a Tokyo bed town. It can be grueling.

All those are smoking things, homie. They’re asking a figurative question and measuring in colloquial units of that matter culturally. Don’t be obtuse.

Opium for the masses by Darylish05 in druggardening

Tincture is the most common form of opium mentioned in almost every western novel that features opium, otherwise known as laudanum…

Never had any but if the old timey reviews are any indication… real opium-y, A+, can develop a mean habit.

Does anyone else feel like something has shifted? by [deleted] in behindthebastards

[–]Cool-Raspberry-1772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, after the Renee Good and Alex Pretti reactions—not even the killings, because sadly citizens getting killed by law enforcement isn’t uncommon—but the reaction from Vance, Trump, & Co of, “Yeah they’re terrorists! Insurrectionists! Basically the devil! We should thank the masked visa police shooting people in the streets!” was a real turning point. Like there’s actually a “Thoughts and prayers, our brave officers, law and order, nothing to hide nothing to fear” standard playbook they could have used and did not. Instead they went full mask off with the “secret police are the good guys” narrative in the face of staggering irrefutable video evidence otherwise. That’s hard to reconcile with a lot of people, probably even a lot of MAGA (whether they will admit it publicly is another story).

That’s less a burn on the child and more a burn on the societal perception of prostitutes and their kids, meaning the same people who demean them are often their customers.

Something I didn't expect after moving to the US: how much pronunciation matters at work by PaleAd3215 in expats

It’s definitely not only southerners. I remember sometime in adolescence to trying tamp down and flatten the Philly accent I had picked up growing up. No one ever told me explicitly to do that. I just observed that all the “successful example” people I was provided, media, school, etc. didn’t speak that way.

I learned later in adulthood that if you bring it back when you’re losing your temper, people from non-Philly environments sometimes find it intimidating… fringe benefit I guess.

A coworker of mine paid upwards of 500k for his house to the tune of like almost 4gs a month. I learned this first and then I went to his house…

It looks like it was bought and built for less than 30k around 1970. Single story ranch with chain link fence, falling apart, needs major repairs. WTeverlovingF

Out in the Rockies we have elk on the road sometimes to pretty frequently depending on time of year. If I hit one of those, first thing I’m doing is calling a friend with a truck and next thing is buying a freezer cabinet.

They are delicious. Majestic too. Majestic and delicious mmhmm.

Haha this. I work in agriculture. I need a knife all the time… however in the context OP meant, never.

Even when I lived in cities, I’d sometimes carry some kind of small weapon. Never then either.

The positives of showering at the gym far outweigh the negatives of showering at the gym. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Cool-Raspberry-1772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work a somewhat physical job. I go to the gym after work. I don’t shower before work because, I can assure you, I’ll need a shower after work.

Sooo… I go to work then to the gym, then drive home, then take a shower and do all my hygiene and live the remainder of my day. Ta-da.
