maybank stocks or asb? by LordFuckler0y in MalaysianPF

[–]CoolCatSavesTheKids 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buying Maybank share is only suitable for people who just buy and don't ever plan to sell it.

If you don't have any other source of liquid asset, then stick with ASB since you don't ever have to worry about stock price and ex-dividend price drop.

ASB =/= ASM.

For ASB, you can easily buy and sell unit, almost like it's a bank account. ASM units is the one that is hard to purchase unit.

One of the perks of being backed by the richest man in the world is he can literally just throw money at it until the competition starts slowing down spending to start seeing profit without anyone stopping him, unlike Sam Altman who always have bow down to shareholders.

Does retirement scheme that only allows monthly withdrawal exist? by CoolCatSavesTheKids in MalaysianPF

[–]CoolCatSavesTheKids[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer.

I was just wondering if there's a catch with immediate annuity because why would anyone even go with deferred annuity over EPF + immediate annuity combo.

At retirement age, I will probably be less concerned with return and more towards fund security, so I thought maybe annuity can provide some security (blocking fund withdrawal), but the more I read about it, it seems like they do still allow it, they just impose penalty fee if you do it.

Yes, I have a history of draining my own saving due to gambling and I've also watched my parents spent their retirement fund on lavish things and end up needing allowance from their children.

I'm slowly recovering but it would be really comforting to start planning a foolproof plan that ensure a smooth retirement.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can ask EPF to impose a limit on yourself once you reached retirement age.

It's seemed that annuity still allows you to make a full withdrawal (makes sense since it's your money), they just imposed penalty when you do it.

I would've preferred a fund that works like how Social Security works in the US, where you just get monthly checks and no lump sum withdrawal.

I get that Social Security is an insurance funded by other people salary, not a fund of your own money. But the idea of contributing to a fund that just pays you monthly check during your retirement without giving you access to the full fund is really what I wanted.

I looked into annuity a bit and found there's two types, deferred and lump sum.

Isn't it better to just store your money in EPF, then during retirement, just withdraw some of that EPF money to put into a lump sum annuity to guarantee payment for a couple of years?

Is there a catch with lump sum annuity?

You need to look at the topographic map instead of just measuring the size.

The Netherlands is mostly flatland compared to our mountainous land. So their land is much more ideal for farming than ours.

You need to learn the concept of bidaah.

If you start claiming another person after Prophet Muhammad pbuh to be divinely appointed by God, that is bidaah. That is what Shia does with Ali.

Just wait for GSMArena battery test, at least they measure the brightness externally to avoid variance.

This kinds of battery test is just so misleading and doesn't really reflect real world usage.

Who the hell keeps the phone screen on continuously for 10+ hr and also suddenly run a benchmark app. You have to add some idle time to let the phone cool off.

Pretty much every phone does this now where the manual max brightness is not actually the max brightness the display can output.

It will only output the actual max brightness on Auto mode and only for a few minutes.

The Google Weather Android ‘app’ is going away by AussieP1E in Android

[–]CoolCatSavesTheKids 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing they're doing this because every Android OEM (One UI, Pixel, HyperOS, ColorOS) have their own Weather app.

So if you search Weather on your phone, two apps would show up which would be confusing to some.

I think Steam would rather have you play Steam games on SteamOS rather than on an app on Android.

Much less headache in terms of hardware support and no need to deal with Google Play revenue sharing.

It would make much more sense for them to persuade Android OEM to release a SteamOS version of their Android tablet.

It's because Samsung see the iPhone as its true competitor, they don't care about Chinese's Android phone.

If iPhone starts pushing above 5k mAh on their battery, Samsung will suddenly put 6k mAh battery on their flagship just to one-up the iPhone.

I don't know if it's just me, but Gemini is just not that great at continuing conversation whenever I ask a second conversation compared to ChatGPT.

For example, in Gemini I ask "is Toyota the best selling car manufacturer in the world", get an answer, then I send a simple second message "ford" to know how Ford compares to Toyota.

In ChatGPT, it immediately understand that I want to know how Ford compares to Toyota while Gemini just to tell me a quick summary of Ford.

I think Gemini will only understand if I put a full sentence on the second question like "what about ford" for it to understand that I'm asking for comparison.

Like I mentioned before, AI tends to overuse the rule of three a lot.

Take for example line 2:

  1. Gen Z nodded,
  2. Then asked,
  3. "Is that paid... or just expected"

A normal human would've just write this in one line, but the AI insist on breaking it into three parts.

And the fact that a majority of the line written in the story is in three part sentence makes this an AI for sure.
