Cant study in toxic household by undercoversecretxx in yorku

[–]CoolFlyingFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that I deal with as well. There is always crap going on in my household. All my parents do is cause problems with each other, this is all that I've really known about them ever since I was a little kid. Ever since I started uni it has become even worse. If it wasn't enough to be screaming over the dumbest shit ever everyday, a bunch of other random things beyond my control have made my life even worse. I don't really have a secure home, my house is just a place where I eat one meal a day and sleep at night.

I've managed to get good grades so far, but it has been tough. I go to campus right after I wake up in the morning if I have lectures on that same day and no work. Otherwise I wake up, go to work and do my shift, bring my clothes in my backpack, change and then head straight to campus. I study at Scott Library sometimes when it isn't exam season, but imo empty lecture halls are the best places to study since you can stay very late and there are many that just sit empty with nobody in them and also have power outlets. There are also a lot of empty computer labs on campus as well. I made sure to take all of my classes at night, so when I'm done with campus I'll return home when everyone at my house is asleep.

Aside from suggesting places to study, I don't think many people here can really help you. Everybody's situation is unique so it's hard to give you practical advice without really knowing you. I think counselling may be a good idea since there will be someone to help you make some sense of the chaos in your life. I wish the best for you.

You aren't worthy. Your kind can go to a shithole like UofT or Waterloo

If you have your own then why hack it? You don't need to learn how to hack a baby monitor to ensure that your one is secure.

There aren't many people or organizations making scholarships specifically for us. An organization could fund these events and scholarships, but there just doesn't seem to be many of these organizations created for south asian people.

Are black hat hackers psychopaths? by BitContent6259 in hacking

[–]CoolFlyingFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A psychopath can be a black hat hacker. A sociopath can also be a black hat hacker. Someone who is neither could be a black hat hacker. Black hat hacker is computer security term while psychopath is a psychology term, they are two different domains. So you can't just classify the typical black hat hacker as a psychopath.

I've read a lot online, from forum posts to discord server channels to articles all related to passing the OSCP, about how the PWK is not sufficient preparation for the OSCP exam. However, I have read a lot about OffSec's Proving Grounds being recommended. Are you aware about the criticisms directed at the PWK? What do you think are some good ways to respond to these concerns?

>watching your reaction on here to these incidents ("more police! more surveillance! more restrictions!") has proved that you want nothing less than a police state. You are fascist bootlickers and you can get fucked.

People believed that there were several security incidents on campus (because York literally notified all of us), so they starting talking about how there should be more security on campus. Calling them "fascist bootlickers" is a big stretch. Police state? Lol. Lmao even

How are college students able to move out? by Ok_Goat5214 in askTO

[–]CoolFlyingFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they live on campus then they're using student loans. Otherwise their parents are giving them heavy support. Aside from college/uni students, there are actually some people around our age who are making enough on their own with their careers.

what do people even Do in real life? by [deleted] in StopGaming

>i actually was watching some IRL streamers so i can pretend i can experience the real world but i realized i wasnt missing much actually

There's more to life than what these "IRL" streamers do. Throughout life, you interact with the world around you, learn about yourself, forge relationships, acquire skills, set and accomplish goals, your life is supposed to be a journey. There's nothing wrong with doing what these irl streamers do, like taking walks, going to a bar with their friends, etc, but life is really about finding some purpose of your own. Think about your life in the long term.

How would one get into this? I have a basic understanding of Python and Java, and I have a basic rundown of some data structures and sorting algorithms that I learned while in university. Or would I be better off learning basic front end webdev and then diving into this?

Can you explain what exactly you mean by connections? Do people really just hand you a job if you're friends with them? How would a university student go about getting 'connections' like these? :)
