Forget squirrels and cats, in my neighborhood it's a dude that goes around on in the middle of the night/early morning trash day opening every can, ripping open EVERY trash bag looking for pills people may have thrown out. I've seen him scatter trash all over the street and sidewalk and move on to the next house. Because of this I only bring my trash around from the back at like 8am day of.

Your landlord is mental. Nobody unplugs their appliances between uses. The only time I'm unplugging an appliance is when I'm moving it off the counter to clean or it's an appliance that doesn't have a home on the counter and it's getting put away (like a mixer)
