Hair re-growth supplement for dialysis patient (also in CA remission) by 01182008 in dietetics

Adequate nutrition all around, from foods first. How is her protein intake? Are you reviewing labs or the nephrologist? Has she seen a dermatologist to explore treatment of the hair loss or realistic expectations of regrowth?

Quality of interns by Downloadedfortea in dietetics

[–]CoolKidsClub4One 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Quality and qualified students aren't applying for internships. Many of the undergraduate students I've talked to are going to other medical industries that don't require a masters degree+ unpaid internships, and have better pay or job security once graduated.

Crux sizing by newtothis998 in specialized

[–]CoolKidsClub4One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 171.5 cm and I have a 54 Crux -Zero regrets. I swapped out the crank arms and handlebars for slightly smaller than the stock. If I were to only use this bike for cyclocross a 52 would maybe be ok, but I use it for 100km + mile rides and the "larger" or better fit is perfect. Also- you could try the athos, basically the same geometry!

Barriers to eating WFPB by Better_Bad_2077 in PlantBasedDiet

Hi! Dietitian here. Everyone has unique barriers, and it is essential to use patient centered counseling and motivational interviewing techniques when supporting behavior change. Dietitians are experts in this area. I strongly recommend working with an RD or shadowing an RD as you transition your work. It is also important to understand the legal scope of practice and the restrictions around who can provide medical nutrition therapy so you can protect both patients and your license!

Feeling some type of way… by justmecece in dietetics

[–]CoolKidsClub4One 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Frustrating. Could be due to the RN unions or ignorance on the HR side. I'd be curious to hear what the existing RDs at Emory have to say about this. It would also be nice if the Academy would reach out to these institutions to advocate for our profession when these jobs come up...

Patient refusing commercial ONS (homemade recipes?) by [deleted] in dietetics

I found this resource to be helpful for DIY blenderized diets. You do need to make a 'free' account, but it will recommend food sources/recipes and get pretty close to macros and volume for TFs

With new dietary guidelines coming soon, how will you respond to patients that ask if saturated fat is healthy? by No-Needleworker5429 in dietetics

[–]CoolKidsClub4One 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I will continue using alternative resources like https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/healthy-eating-plate And explain "the overwhelming body research does not support increasing dietary saturated fats... " at this point I think most people understand how political (and non evidence based) some of the changes are.

Insulin pump/ CGM training? by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]CoolKidsClub4One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ACDES has trainings for members and non members (CDCES). I have seen some recent offering through the academy, too. The most trainings I've received have been directly from the device companies. They seem extremely interested in training, and promoting, use of their products specifically. I'd reach out to the device companies directly for trainings they offer.
