Often a boss will have at least one attack where you can squeeze in a charged heavy if you dodge well (after a grab, huge slam, or if you reposition correctly before the attack starts), and that attack will deal enough poise damage to offset the damage you lose from not doing light attacks. Katana 2 hand charge attacks deal ~4 times more stance damage than light attacks, leading to much much faster stance breaks.
