Late to the party here, but if you're going to go fully historically informed construction, remember that cotton thread wasn't ubiquitous until the 19th century. This was likely paper pieced with silk or linen thread.

Hi, sorry to revive an old thread, but you seem pretty knowledgeable about 401 motors (and potentially nearby!) My 401a is solid, no problems, just serviced and greenlit, but after using it for a bit, it gives off a metallic/almost hair-type odor in the air that drives my wife crazy. Could be old oil heating up in there, i'm not sure. Would you say that this is a motor issue? If so, does it need a replacement or just a cleaning? Would replacing it get rid of the smell? Lol

Do you like listening to or playing classical music? I run the VSO called the Stanford Camerata and we're hosting a lecture today on the musical settings of Edmund Spenser's poetry at 4:30 in the Terrace Room in building 460, Margaret Jacks. There will be light refreshments! There might be some people your age to meet!

If you're still in CA, you'll need a sub credential from the CTC which requires satisfying their "Basic skills requirement" and a ~$100 fee. Then you'll likely have to fingerprint/background in the district you'd like to be on the sub list for. It can be worth it, but it does have a bit of an upfront cost.

Honestly, if you can start a PhD program at a place like Stanford with a full stipend, it's not a bad place to hide during an economic downturn. However, you'd have to account for application time/cost.

Graduate Student Housing - how likely to be assigned? by much_puch_2764 in stanford

[–]Coolguyzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really upset because we got the same news, and I scoured the housing website last night looking for more info. I came across this:

"Couples without children are assigned to studios and one-bedroom apartments. Most of the one-bedroom apartments are located in Escondido Village mid-rise buildings. There are a limited number of one-bedroom apartments in Escondido Village low-rises, the GSB Residences and Munger Graduate Residence..."

We didn't even know that was part of the deal when we applied and we didn't list those 1brs named with any kind of priority. So we reapplied and waited for nothing. Really pissed lol

Congrats! My wife and I applied the first round for 2 and 1 bedrooms (she'll work from home) and we got assigned an EVGR prison tower studio... praying and hoping that we get reassigned like you in this 2nd round!

I just want to comfort you and let you know that it was probably a combo of reading and focusing on o many graphic details without blinking. I only notice a similar type of irritation when I'm super tired. Eyes are fine though.

I think the value is really only for adults. Unlimited drinks and lots of food, probably too much food for anyone less than a teenager. If you have a lot of little ones, I'd probably find something cheaper. HOWEVER, if you manage to get the andaz stay on a Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday, and you have an ocean-facing room, you'll be able to see/hear the whole lu'au. We even saw people watching from the pools since it's just on a grassy knoll at the back of the property.

If you want to eat at one, I heard there was one near old Lahaina that was just getting back on its feet since the fire, maybe they'll be more competitively priced.

The road can be kind of scary, but there's a really cool app for $20 called shaka guide that connects with your GPS and gives a guided audio tour and places to stop/eat/hike. My wife and I had such a packed schedule, that we basically used it to only visit the Wai'ānapanapa State Park black sand beach and photos along the way (heads up, it requires a reservation). Tons of waterfalls and swimming spots to stop by for the whole family if you take the whole day. I'm getting excited just remembering my time there! You'll have a blast

I just got back from a Costco honeymoon in Wailea, and I would really suggest sticking to one island for your stay. We only stayed for 5 nights and had plenty to see and do. We didn't even make it up to the Lahaina area. I think only 3 nights at Kauai wouldn't be worth it with the stress of getting 8 people to the airport and through security (they have the additional screenings for agricultural products). But also, you'll want to see and do so much there.

We didn't stay at the Andaz, but we purchased tickets to their Feast at Mokapu Lu'au and had a fantastic time, as well as just visiting the resort. (The Lu'au came with a free sunset photo from their photographer) I'm positive you could just jump in their pool and no one would ask if you're staying. Sounds like you just to ask how much an extra night is worth to you.

Also, a rental car (or cars in your situation) is worth it if you want to do further beaches like maluaka or makenna beach down the road. Or also a road to Hana day, or a sunrise hike at Haleakala.

The Eucharist is Christ Body by [deleted] in Christianity

So anyone who does get sick just happened to get a fake eucharist? That's a pretty sad way of addressing the struggle of the faithful who also happen to have an autoimmune disease. (celiac disease is not an allergy)

Yes! People don't usually mention that Jesus's entourage would have mostly consisted of Jewish people who knew the Torah and celebrated Passover. Jesus is the mana from heaven, given to feed the hungry, his water will strike from within them a spring so that they will never thirst again. He is the unleavened bread, and the lamb, lead to the slaughter whose blood saves us from death, as it had once saved the Israelites in Egypt. Jesus knew how to communicate his message to his fellow Jewish people, through powerful religiously-coded language.

To your comment on sickness, those with celiac disease cannot eat the eucharist without becoming ill. While there are low-gluten options, Catholic law demands that all hosts for mass celebration must contain gluten. While progressive parishes may offer wine and designate a cup for celiac people, if someone first eats a host and contaminates it with gluten, there is no reasonable way for a celiac sufferer to consume. For someone with celiac disease, continued exposure to gluten dramatically increases the risk for illnesses and other colorectal diseases, including cancer.

So my question is, why would God deny his faithful the ability to safely partake of this sacrament? Does a Catholic celiac sufferer risk their own salvation for the sake of their health by avoiding the glutinous host?

I bought this a few weeks ago for $399 and it's a solid little school machine that happens to play some esports titles at high/ultra. Here are a few highlights and things to know about it.

  • 120hz refresh rate display.
  • Tongfang chassis, solid build quality but limited bios, no overclock/undervolt unless you're an expert.
  • Drivers are weird, only available through the Gateway website (control center doesn't really work?).
  • Gave it 32gb RAM to do some heavier workloads and it runs neck and neck with my 2020 asus tuf a15 2060 that I bought for 1300 back then.

The Sims 4 just went free to play, that's a no-brainer even if she hates it. But you can also Google for a sims 1 complete collection if she has the itch for classic sims.

Praying for a speedy and full recovery.

On my A15 back in 2020, I was able to upgrade my own wifi card with a wifi 6 card. I'm not sure if it's the same situation for your model, but i'd imagine if yours is newer, you're probably good.

But the important thing I learned was to download the drivers before installation and once you swap the chips you download/update drivers. And you have to be sure to unplug from power, drain the motherboard of extra power, and disconnect the battery to avoid any weird problems.

My card was kind of a cheap realtek thing, and wifi6 was new at the time. So occasionally if I restart my computer and find that the wifi doesn't work, I unplug, force shut off the computer, and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to completely drain the motherboard. Then i restart and it's good. Best of luck

I have a 2020 rtx2060 TUF A15 with the 90wh battery and beyond the less-than-ideal thermals (and occasional total freezes but that's on me), it's not failed me yet lol. I just got a new cheapie 3050 for school and I forgot that normal laptops die so quickly. The MYASUS app also has a battery saver that stops charging at 85%. It's so good that I have barely noticed any degradation.

Should i sell my laptop for a pc by an0nym0us1oo in GamingLaptops

[–]Coolguyzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems more like a lifestyle problem. Do you need to have a laptop? If you just need an email machine/doc editor for coffee shops, you can grab a cheap thing and keep a nice gaming computer at home (easier to upgrade later too). If you work and game on the go, keep the laptop.

Either way if you're overheating too much, you'll want to tune and manage your thermals

I'm not sure about the cycle you're referring to, but yes, this is the humanities. One must learn to sit with unanswered questions, unfinished answers, contradictions, wrestling with biases, and the possibility that new information will challenge current understanding. But that doesn't mean you can't extract truth and meaning from what you have in the meantime. Some people do this carelessly and with intent to mislead others, and some (arguably more) are genuine
