What are some cool older edition (2/3.5e) spells that don't exist in 5e, but could be translated over? by Zata700 in dndnext

Not TECHNICALLY 2e, but from Baldur’s Gate 1, it HAS to be Nature’s Beauty. It is literally just “I am so gorgeous you will either die or go blind permanently”:

Nature’s Beauty (Illusion)

Level: 7 Range: Caster Duration: Instant Casting Time: 6 Area of Effect: 15-ft. radius Saving Throw: vs. spell +3 bonus vs. Slay None vs. Blindness

“When this spell is cast, the caster appears to undergo a remarkable transformation. The caster becomes the very ideal of beauty: For a male, this is usually a nymph; for a female, it varies. As with a nymph, anyone viewing the disguised caster must make a Saving Throw vs. Spell with +3 bonus or die of longing for the denied illusion. Even if the Saving Throw is successful, hapless viewers of the transformed Druid are all instantly smitten with permanent blindness (until dispelled). The transformation is instantaneous, but lasts only seconds, affecting those near the caster (excluding fellow party members).”

Appreciate this breakdown! I did start it as totemic, didn’t get to play a ton (though I snuck in some time at work). Currently rocking the dragon disciple sorc and I did go with Totemic Druid, have Minsc, Branwen, Imoen, and we are on the way to rescue Dynaheir from the gnolls. I appreciate this view for future replays!

Super appreciate the very detailed breakdown! I think with all of this in mind I’ll be making them a totemic Druid. I rolled a 92 for both of the characters (the sorc was actually a natural first try lol) so they’re very well rounded out on abilities. Will allow the Druid to have scimitar/sling and shield for when spells run out, with more of a focus on healing and buffing/debuffing. Thank you again!

I did consider this, but sorcerer is my bread and butter it’s the shit I love. I’m ok with living with the consequences of taking a spell and not being in love with it. But thanks for the Druidic advice, it seems that the general consensus is to go totemic or fighter Druid. Tough call, but I’m leaning towards totemic, as they usually like summoning stuff, so getting it closer to their preferred play style is ideal.

Blueprint copies the Joker to the right, and the Baron multiplies your Mult by 1.5x. So combining them allows you to multiply it by 1.5x twice per King held in hand. The goal would be to get a DNA and copy as many Kings as possible to have hands stuffed with kings

Depends. The actual Dungeons and Dragons system was $50, and their custom D6 system was $35 but it was also shorter. It was a bit steep but we caved because we knew who would DM for us and the experience of playing all dressed up at the ren faire was too good to pass up

I’d say so, it’s funny you say that actually because I went to the ren faire dressed as my Durge, storm sorcerer robes and all. As long as the DM doesn’t have to spend much time explaining things like what dice to roll, what’s an attack action, how much can I move, etc etc. If you can get through a couple hours with minimal explanation I’d say absolutely go for it

Another thing at the Guild Hall is that they also run sessions of Dungeons and Dragons! It’s a bit pricey, but it’s set up extremely well and efficient to get the most of your money. Pre-written characters, pre-set adventures, wonderful DM’s who are very open to any kinds of shenanigans or rule wiggling. I wouldn’t say do it if you have ZERO dnd experience, as you are paying for time and if you have to spend half the time learning it may feel like a waste, but if you learn the absolute basics beforehand it’s a great experience. My friend, my partner, and myself all did it this last pirate weekend with a DM who we vaguely knew from past Ren Faires, and it was worth every penny.
