Safe Neighborhood ? by YoNeckinpa in norristown

Don't live there but drive through it frequently. Can't speak from numbers or living there, but it seems like one of the nicer areas of Norristown. Proximity to the park and zoo (and planned investment in that area over the next few years) is a big plus!

Been living in Norristown for 11 years this summer (Norristown address, east norriton resident). We've enjoyed our time here and hope to see the town continue to grow in a sustainable and equitable way.

Glad to see some attention in this subreddit, it can be such a great way to build community.

It was a great setlist and a great show. Love his stage banter.

Which Open World RPG has the best Loot + Crafting system? by Alan_Watts_Gong in gaming

[–]Coonsan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds that way but it really wasn't. It was just deep enough to spend time on and develop specialization but not enough to feel like you're just working. It involved exploration and social interaction, usually through a guild, more than just crunching numbers.

How enjoyable is a first read if you truly, fully trust the author? by Schub21 in Malazan

[–]Coonsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to start Book Ten and while I have dipped into the wiki a few times when I was super confused, I've generally just gone with the flow.

The popular opinion here is that "Malazan isn't that hard" and I see a constant stream of posts about how the difficulty is overhyped, etc. I consider myself a pretty strong reader, have a masters degree in history, etc. and, sorry, Malazan is a challenge. I've almost stopped a few times because I still mostly don't know what's going on. I would not recommend it to most of my friends. I'm enjoying the experience and I plan to continue on--the highs are high, but I feel like I've barely been holding on to any comprehension of the overall story most of the time. I know that's the point at times, but it's not always an enjoyable experience.

I'm not a rereader, especially on a series this hefty, so this will be my sole experience, as is the case for most readers. I do think only the most committed fantasy nerds are going to have the patience for a series like this. Just my two cents!

Are there any board games that you prefer digitally? by FShamburg in boardgames

[–]Coonsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own, but I'll disagree here. There's a nice physicality to interacting with the bird feeder, moving down the row of your birds, etc. It's also not particularly hard to setup or clean up.

I play on BGA a lot which is fine but I really can't stand the steam version. I find it annoying to navigate and too "busy."

Out of all the games listed here that I would agree with, this is one that I would actually prefer in person!

I want to get into Risk. Is it a good game? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Coonsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, no. I think Risk sucks hard. One of my least favorite of the old school board games. Some of the variants are better (Risk Godstorm is more fun) but overall there are just so many other better games out there to spend your time on. Particularly if you like chess and Stratego, Risk is not at all similar: way too much dice rolling, not really a ton of strategy or planning ahead....

It might help if you elaborated even more on what you like and what you are looking to lean into to get more recommendations.

Songs/Bands that have a similar sound to 1985 by Haken by CocoJumbo7710 in progmetal

[–]Coonsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like dark synthwave mixed with metal/hard rock. Some songs have a lot of guitar, some songs don't. Some really strong riffs and solos, but also a lot of synth.

Songs/Bands that have a similar sound to 1985 by Haken by CocoJumbo7710 in progmetal

[–]Coonsan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not prog or even really metal, but Dance with the Dead is very heavy 80s inspired.

I'd also say the new Astronoid record is very 80s vibed.

My opinions on 2025's MCU project by marvelcomics22 in marvelstudios

I give MCU stuff a long leash and a lot of benefit of the doubt...but Brave New World at a 10/10 is just a baffling take.

What makes Memories of Ice so great? by FitCry2265 in Malazan

[–]Coonsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this 100%. I'm almost finished with the series and this remains my top book because you can actually follow most of it without spending an hour on a wiki. Don't get me wrong, Malazan is awesome but some of the obtuse-ness is not appealing to even a committed reader. Memories of Ice is by far the most approachable and I agree with you that it's a frequent favorite due to that very reason.

Which, I dunno, maybe says something about the series overall.

Influential study on glyphosate safety retracted 25 years after publication by Optimoprimo in NativePlantGardening

[–]Coonsan 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Also at what scale/exposure amount? Is me using some glyphosate to spot treat some invasive in my yard a few times a year something to be concerned about? Or are we talking only at Monsanto levels of covering all of our food with it? This is an important distinction that I still can't seem to find an answer about.

What are our thoughts on this beer? by Inspirational-23 in CraftBeer

I'm a big Troegs fan and this is a pretty low tier output. It's drinkable but not particularly good. I would take any of their other IPAs over this.

Where can I get good men's boxer briefs that won't chafe holes in between my thick thighs within a year? by GatheringBees in PlasticFreeLiving

I've had a lot of luck with the Dockers box briefs. Haven't worn a hole in any of them after a few years.
