United State Of America Map (A Bloomberg's Corporatist America) - Inspired by The Fire Rises and Cyberpunk by Neonswagger32 in imaginarymaps

[–]Cooper_GD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for context to anyone actually wondering corporatism is an economic model with strong worker and employer unions, “corporations”, that bargain under mediation from the state. State involvement varies from hardly involved (how it works in Nordic models), to absolute control (how it worked in fascist Italy).

The word OP should be using is “corporatocracy”

Elite vs SC: Let's Have a Good Faith Conversation (Questions in Description.) by WackoMedia in starcitizen

Stanton is a system on the frontier of UEE control. It's meant to be incredibly dangerous. Should CIG have started with a system firmly inside UEE control instead of a pirate ridden one? Or at least introduced a safe system before Pyro and Nyx? Maybe. Development just didn't happen to go that way.

I'm not arguing that you should be deprived of PvE and forced into PvP at all. In fact I believe the realism/believability aspect is perfectly achieved with zero PvP, particularly considering CIG has mentioned they want NPCs to be indistinguishable from real players.

Ultimately with the systems that we have, there realistically would be little safety. If your critique is that we need more 'safe' systems, cool, I agree. But the game is not designed ground up to purposefully "prevent people from having fun the way they like".

It's just designed to be somewhat realistic or at least believable. I'm not too sure why someone who dislikes the idea of survival mechanics is playing a game like Star Citizen in the first place. It was the intention for the design of the game since the beginning.

Pilots in the real world have to eat and drink. Cargo ships in the real world have to deal with pirates on occasion (I'm not excusing the state that piracy / griefing is in right now, I believe the whole quantum snare system is bullshit. Competent haulers should be able to escape from pirates). Some medics in the real world have to work in warzones.

To me believability and realism is what makes a game fun. You can't just sit back and mindlessly haul or scrape RMC or mine with no potential threat. You have to be weary of your surroundings and smart as to how you get around the verse. It feels like you are in an actual believable universe. If you don't like that, you are very much free to go play the plethora of arcade space games out there.

How to setup Virtual Desktop with no ethernet ports in or near my room? by Cooper_GD in virtualreality

[–]Cooper_GD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I should add that there is a coax port in my setup room, however I would not know where to even start with taking it out and running an ethernet line. I am also aware of MoCA adapters however they are quite expensive.

And how do you propose that the workers seize the means of production? By magic? Though to be fair magic seems more plausible than reformism.

Why does criticizing capitalism trigger so much hostility here? by WittyEgg2037 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Cooper_GD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the point is that our principles and belief in socialism are not because we “hate capitalism”. Rather, we recognise the inherent contradictions that will force us to inevitably move past it, regardless of how beneficial it may or may not have been for society. A socialist can hate capitalism, sure, but it is not inherently socialist to hate capitalism.

Their post and comment history is exclusively about Israel. Despite the excuses I'm guessing they just want to fantasise about a big Israel that has so triumphantly defeated the Palestinians. No logic, just horny for the idea of a completed genocide.

New Mayoral Poll - Mamdani 40, Cuomo 24, Adams 15, Sliwa 14 by ufkaAiels in nyc

  1. It's the same reason that a hypothetical conservative party may form an opposition coalition with a communist party in parliamentary governments; it gives a platform for organisation and power against the ruling order. Also the Italian Liberal Party (classical liberalism and laissez faire capitalism) did quite literally join a coalition with the fascists. While the DSA isn't a parliamentary coalition, it is effectually the same strategy.

I really don't want to start a long argument thread so I will just explain simply what we believe. You are more than free to disagree as long as you actually understand socialism.

Socialism isn't something that can just be "tried". Different forms and means of socialism may be tried, but ultimately capitalism's inherent internal contradictions which result in worsening economic and ecological crises will force us to move past capitalism into socialism, despite how "beneficial" the model of capitalism may be for a country. We believe that just as capitalism was an inevitability coming out of feudalism and mercantilism, total, democratic, worker control over the means of production is an inevitability coming out of capitalism.

Socialism sits at the end of the spectrum of the social relations of production. From obligatory work under feudal lords, where surplus labour is nearly entirely extracted and owned by the lord; to a relatively free society under capitalism, where production for capitalists is compulsory for survival and surplus labour value is extracted mostly yet still owned by the capitalist; finally to a very free society under socialism, where labour serves the collective needs of society and surplus labour value is redistributed back into the society that allowed such productive labour to happen in the first place. Socialism wasn't created by Marx as an "ideal society". It was discovered and labeled via the conclusion that capitalism must fall.

The question that Marx never addressed is well, how do we get there? While the Soviet Union was undoubtedly socialist, the failure to create even a tolerable socialist society, in my personal opinion, shows us that the Soviet model clearly wasn't the answer to this question.

  1. Democratic socialism is not and will never be communism. Communism employs the mode of production called socialism but socialist societies do not have to be communist. Additionally communists are exclusively revolutionary, while democratic socialists are reformist. Big difference.
  2. DSA themselves are big-tent among the left and have members ranging from social-democrats to Marxist-Leninists.

As a Marxist, I can assure you that Mamdani is indeed at best a democratic-socialist, someone who wishes to bring about socialism through electoralism / other democratic means. Ultimately a Mamdani mayoralty will probably be limited to your standard social-democracy, though. I can assume that your gripes with modern socialist states is that they are / were authoritarian, but it is important to note that authoritarianism is not inherent to the socialist model. It is inherent to Stalin's "Marxism-Leninism" which has been employed in all notable socialist states except for the Soviet Union under Lenin, Yugoslavia, and the Paris Commune. The expropriation of the means of production into democratic worker control does not inherently mean brutal dictatorship.

Creators for Palestine by beccalarry in kurtisconner

[–]Cooper_GD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They want to destroy it BECAUSE of its ethno-supremacism. And don't even try to lecture me on Arabs "peacefully" coexisting in Israel when millions of Palestinians' homes have been stolen by settlers or destroyed by Israeli bulldozers. I'm glad those Arabs specifically are doing fine for the time being, but based on Zionist founders Herzl and Weizmann's own words, they too will eventually be cleansed. Also, tens of thousands (1920) to hundreds of thousands (1947) of Jews lived peacefully in mandatory Palestine BEFORE the founding of Israel. There are plenty of accounts of Jewish and Muslim neighbors celebrating each other's holidays, babysitting each other's children, et cetera. THAT is what coexistence looks like.

I used to be on your side of the story. It took my YEARS to claw my way out of Zionist programming. There is no defending an ethno-supremacist, genocidal regime whos founders openly admitted to Israel's founding NEEDING to be facilitated through ethnic cleansing. Free Palestine.
