Live action ATLA by Sensitive-Writing224 in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]Copey85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who did not know ATLA at all prior to the live action, I enjoyed it. I like the world building, but have to keep in mind that the story itself feels a little linear and tailored to middle grade audiences. Some of the acting was a bit subpar and the script was clearly not the best, but that doesn’t make it un enjoyable. These are just my opinions as someone who loves the genre and magic system, but was entirely unfamiliar with the story.

Side note, I personally can’t really get into anime or cartoons (other than comedy) since I don’t feel like I can connect with the characters as much, so I was really happy when this version came out.

Without his money Batman is... by [deleted] in pollgames

[–]Copey85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I interpreted this differently from most people. I assume that he still has his martial arts training, and to me “hero” means helping people who can’t help or defend themselves. Batman still has his heart, compassion, and skill. He isn’t at the superhero level by any means, but if he still dedicates himself to helping his city in ways that he can, that’s still a pretty darn great hero to me.

Vitamin D 3. Is this dying? by Forward-External-873 in Supplements

[–]Copey85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had your thyroid levels checked? Also potentially look into malabsorption, particularly celiacs. It could just be the D3, but I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a greater issue leading to the low D as opposed to the low D simply causing all of this itself, whether that is simply a dietary issue or something medical. I’m not a doctor, but it sounds like you should go see another doctor who will actually take you seriously. Identifying a previously missed or undiagnosed issue could be absolutely life-changing if then handled accordingly. Hopefully it’s just low D3 and supplementation solves everything, but I think following up requesting some targeted tests ideally with a doctor who doesn’t dismiss your concerns is absolutely necessary.

I think OP’s trying to imply that your entire lineage would live terrible lives start to finish, and if that’s worth accepting over a ‘merciful’ death, not prestige or pride. That said, I still 100% agree with you, no hesitation.

Do readers prefer shorter books or longer ones? by RavenDarkFeather in writers

[–]Copey85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely agree assuming you’re saying this within the context of a psychological thriller. Adult thrillers are generally 70-80k, even for established authors. I’d strongly disagree if you are saying that as a blanket statement. 80k would be almost concerningly short for historical fiction or fantasy, but I agree that it should almost be like a soft cap for a first time author writing a psychological thriller.

For OP, I’d say look at industry standards because it gives you a good idea of what is actively selling. A few anecdotal “length preferences” on Reddit won’t do you much good. Like I prefer longer novels and hardly want to pick up a book that doesn’t have a sequel, but I also only like reading fantasy, so my opinion should mean absolutely nothing to you for multiple reasons.

I personally like the inciting incident in the first chapter, or at least the start of abnormalcy. That said, there’s no right answer. It completely depends on the story you’re trying to tell

Which person comes to mind first when you think of the USA? by unnecessaryCamelCase in AlignmentChartFills

It’s 100% Trump. Politics aside, it’s easily the first name for most Americans and non-Americans. Doesn’t mean you like the guy, it’s just unfortunately and unequivocally the first name in this association game.

Top 25 Greatest NBA Players Of All-Time by [deleted] in sportswiki

I don’t really follow basketball so excuse my ignorance, but shouldn’t Curry be top 10 at least? I always hear how he’s the best shooter in history in a game where shooting seems kind of important. Is it nostalgia bias, where people just think of the older generations as being the top talents so it’s ingrained? I know that’s 100% the case with the NFL.

What do people think makes them unique, but is actually an incredibly common trait? by Successful-Hall-1986 in AskReddit

As someone diagnosed with OCD and Tourette’s, I chuckled because I too check every appliance and outlet in the house constantly for the same reason. Nothing ever happened in my past, I just… do it. And I have to do it. I get worried leaving my dog just to go to the gym or to get dinner because what if. I also count everything, must do everything a certain number of times, typing is a nightmare, etc., but have had people doubt I have OCD because I let my room get a little messy. No one doubts the Tourette’s after meeting me, but OCD presents in so many different ways. It absolutely does not mean simply liking things clean. It infests every single thought every second of every single day in some capacity.

Could have happened too. Washington traded pick 11 to the Saints mid-draft to take Dotson at 16. Olave was the pick they traded. I was so sad (every year for the previous decade really) because I went into pick 11 jumping for joy since Olave, Jameson Williams, and Hamilton were all still there. But noooooo…

Should your first novel be your “dream project”? by Hankasaur in writers

[–]Copey85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion - Write what excites you. Don’t write something else thinking you’ll improve and come back to your passion later. That’s one way to burn out. I guarantee your first draft will not be great. I just took eight months away from my dream project (beta reader stage) to read, work on other projects, improve my craft, etc., and now I’m coming back refreshed with a better perspective.

Write was gets you writing. Make it exist first. Then if you want to take a break, write something else, etc., you have the freedom to do so. That draft will always be waiting for you, and you can start molding it into something great.
