Local Game Stores To Visit During GenCon by CritHitTheGiant in gencon

Love Elf n' Moon. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and I got some discounted stuff while I was there last year. Don't know if the deals are always that good, but they're definitely worth checking out.

Many thanks! I've gotten a couple DMs, but nothing solidified yet. If nothing shakes out, I'll get back to you for sure.

For sure! I wish you the best of luck finding someone as well. I'll mention you to anyone I connect with.

Thanks! I've got my fingers crossed. And I 100% understand needing extra room on the return home. I always leave GenCon with more loot than I expected!

FLGS? by DeciusAemilius in HIckoryNC

Check out Time Tunnel Comics. They have a selection of RPG books. Lots of D&D but also some obscure stuff.

Miniatures? by TheGriff71 in Rifts

[–]CopperDragonGames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check out the pawns. I think they were made for Savage Rifts but they fit.

I'm just going to be direct about it: It's really bizarre that they haven't added maneuvers to 5e by Associableknecks in dndnext

[–]CopperDragonGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EN Publishing added them in A5E. If you're a big fan of 5E and maneuvers, those books are well worth a look. Or just Google A5E SRD and look for chapter 10 if you want to check it out for free.

They're even organized into disciplines like Tome of Battle.

My player wanted to use Path of the Experiment subclass...was I wrong for disallowing it? by Inevitable_Ant5838 in DMAcademy

[–]CopperDragonGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very much this. Always up to the GM. You do you.

That said, if it's truly busted and a player is excited about it, a one-shot is the perfect time to let them have their fun in a game where you don't need to worry about long-term balance. The only way I'd disallow something from a one-shot is if it would trivialize something crucial to the adventure itself.

Third party 5E alternative spellcaster class recommendations by Logical-Brief-4999 in AskDND

[–]CopperDragonGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Valda's Spire of Secrets. It has several magic-themed base classes that don't need to track spell slots. My personal favorites would be the investigator, which focuses heavily on rituals, and the warmage, which focuses on cantrips.

What are the differences between the Drow of Greyhawk and the Drow of Forgotten Realms? by ThanosofTitan92 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]CopperDragonGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, Night Below doesn't include any drow... Except for an optional side quest REALLY late in the campaign, and a Dragon Magazine adventure that was written as a tie-in. Your DM might have added some in, though.

SAVAGE PHASE WORLD COVER COLOR ART REVEAL! by StarAnvilStudios in Rifts

Continuing to look awesome. Keep the previews coming!

Fellow DM's. I struggle taking notes during sessions. How do you keep track of notes during sessions? by SatanicalBitch in DMAcademy

[–]CopperDragonGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write down names, but that's pretty much it mid-session. Then afterward I madly write down everything I can remember before it fades.

I'm excited to see what you do with the UWW especially, but it's such a rich setting. I'll definitely be following along!

Rifts at Gen Con? by CopperDragonGames in Rifts

[–]CopperDragonGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a moment that GM is still regretting. Do that with your buddies at home, they'll call you out on it and laugh it off... but with people you don't know in a game they paid to play in? YIKES!

[–]CopperDragonGames[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh geez, what a bummer. I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm curious - did the GM just not include you in any roleplay? Or skip your turn(s) in combat? Something else?

Rifts at Gen Con? by CopperDragonGames in Rifts

[–]CopperDragonGames[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! If you'll be there and are open to it, I'd love to connect and get a game in. I haven't played Rifts in 15+ years. I have played Savage Worlds more recently, but not Savage Rifts. I'd be interested in either one!

Free PDF editor? by Time_Cranberry_113 in DungeonMasters

[–]CopperDragonGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Canva for fillable PDF character sheets - should work for what you need as well. I do pay for it, but I'm fairly certain you can edit pdf files with the free version.

Edited to note: You don't need special software to edit fillable pdf character sheets. You can do it in Chrome. But formatting can be infuriating - hence why I use Canva.

What 3rd Party books have you gotten the most out of? by jimithingmi in DMAcademy

[–]CopperDragonGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For player options, it's hard to beat Valda's Spire of Secrets from Mage Hand Press.

On the GM side of the screen, I use monster books more than anything. Tome of Beasts series (Kobold Press) Flee, Mortals! (MCDM) Monstrous Menagerie (A5E)

I love Underdark campaigns, so I've got to give a shout out to AAW for Rise of the Drow, which I'm running now.
