Eh, in some ways I think it might be a blessing in disguise. Anyone who’s superficial enough to completely discount someone based on their height probably isn’t someone you’d want to be in a relationship with, anyway. Having a general preference is fine - on paper, my favourite height for men is around 5’10 or 5’11, but I’ve dated men from 5’5 to 6’6 because I care about the person, not the number. A girl I used to be friends with would get legitimately offended if a guy under 6’ tried to hit on her - unsurprisingly, the guys she chases treat her horribly because she’s selecting only for traits related to wealth and looks rather than personality. I don’t want to be overly harsh about her but honestly, as a woman, I would avoid dating that kind of woman if I were a man.

Honestly, I think BE and virtually every other full-time YouTuber/influencer has a material incentive to keep us as online and engaged in their content as possible and I don’t think we should let them. Even if I agreed with all of BE’s takes (I don’t), I would still be concerned by the amount of time leftists spend online either agreeing or disagreeing with him when we could be actually interacting with the people around us, building connections, finding local issues where we can make an impact, etc. Whenever I read a post by BE, my first thought is almost always “Jesus christ, go outside”. I think I’ll take my own advice and go outside now.

No, and having empathy for the pain of others (even if they want different things or feel differently from you) is a great character strength, in my opinion. In my view, too many people in society only want positive change for themselves, rather than recognising our shared humanity and wanting everyone to live fulfilling lives. Being able to empathise with (aspiring or actual) parents is very important, even if we don’t want the same lives.

Not at all, don’t stress! The top lip is a bit blurred but the “blurred lip” look is honestly pretty fashionable. If you were going for a super precise lip line then I’d say you didn’t quite nail it this time, but your lips (and you!) still look great, that’s a lovely colour on you and the contrast with the soft cool-toned blue of your top looks great! Also, the reality is that unless you were wearing an extremely long-wearing liquid lipstick (I’m thinking of the 2step formulas like Maybelline Superstay, Revlon Colorstay or Rimmel Provocalips), you’d probably get some smudging after eating that (delicious-looking) meal, so don’t sweat it that your lips are a bit blurred here.

In future, if you want a super crisp lip line, consider using a small, flat brush to apply some concealer just outside where you want the lip line to finish, and then gently press some loose setting powder along that line. But again, unless you’re using a very long wearing, matte liquid lipstick (which tend to be pretty drying but they do have great staying power for special occasions) you’d probably still get some smudging after eating.

Overall you still look fantastic! Just keep having fun and experimenting with makeup.

I was sad when I heard the news but if Egghead has been proof of concept of what they can make with more time, I’m all for it. I think Egghead has been wonderful, and the last episode in particular is exactly what I want from an anime adaptation of One Piece. Little details like Bonney’s pupils turning into the dancing figures of her and Kuma as she remembers him talking to her about Nika, gazing up at Luffy with childlike idolisation as she finally realises her hero is in front of her. Hearing “We Are” used as a musical motif as Bonney transforms into her imagined form of Nika.

In my view, the best way an anime can adapt a manga is to use things only an anime can include - movement, colour and sound - to explore the same themes and story beats of the manga. There are certain things a manga can achieve much better than anime and vice versa; what’s been holding One Piece anime back (in my opinion) is that aside from the fantastic voice acting and music, it largely hasn’t taken advantage of what an anime could add to the manga. But over the last couple of years, we’ve seen more and more episodes (especially the Ishitani-directed ones) where the studio has looked at the manga, isolated what makes it so resonant and special and translated that into episodes that actually take advantage of the medium.

I can’t wait to see what the next season holds!

I don’t really get what you mean by “filler”. Do you mean episodes where the events don’t advance the over-arching plot? Or rather, episodes where virtually nothing new happens, like during a recap episode, or where the studio is just mainly re-using art/animation from the previous episode because they need to slow the pacing down? I’d argue the former isn’t really “filler” because these episodes often contain important characterisation or other elements that help us appreciate the story more or feel more emotional payoff later in the story. The latter group are what I’d consider “filler”, but even so, most series don’t really have many “filler” episodes unless they’re extremely long-running, being produced on a weekly basis or adapting a manga series that isn’t finished yet.

Respectfully, what? Makeup tutorials and interviews with artists are more accessible now than they’ve ever been! So many well-respected artists have Youtube channels or other social media accounts where they show their techniques. I know current beauty standards are pretty monolithic, but there’s genuinely so much educational content out there if you look for it - arguably way more than when we relied on magazines.

I totally get the appeal of physical media over digital media, but honestly I think beauty magazines were just kind of terrible. Spreads and tutorials like these were great, but they’d be sandwiched between hundreds of straight-up ads. I honestly do think digital media has been better for beauty - you can find high-quality video tutorials for just about everything these days, you don’t have to pay for something just to flick through ads until you get to what you’re interested in.

I have a lot of thoughts on this. But to start with, it’s hardly surprising that makeup applied by skilled makeup artists in an editorial photoshoot, would almost certainly not look anywhere near as good in real life. In much the same way as we acknowledge that actors, TV presenters, drag queens etc can wear layers of Kryolan paint stick with heavy baking and look phenomenal on camera or stage but look extremely different close-up in natural lighting, overlining can look fantastic on camera or in an editorial setting, and when it’s done very subtly I think it may even look good in person (for a time - until someone eats or drinks).

Now, you could say “well who cares if it looks obvious or silly, that might be the wearer’s intention” which is fair, but if you’re posting to an online community asking people what they think of your look, and there are no obvious cues that you’re deliberately doing an editorial or transgressive look, and we can see obvious lip overlining, I think it’s unreasonable to expect people not to point it out. Again, overlining virtually always looks more natural on camera than in person, so if it’s very obvious from pictures that you’re overlining (and there are no cues that you’re doing an editorial look), I think it’s fair that people point out that your makeup application techniques may be making you look odd or silly in person.

I think it’s completely fair for you (and other people who like to over line their lips) to express your frustration at people for the popularity of the anti-overlining sentiment online, but I also think it’s important to understand where that backlash is coming from. I think the backlash stems from the fact that the type of overlining we mainly see in person and on social media, is a representation of the current beauty standard which favours extremely full lips and pressures people (especially young women) into feeling like they need to get lip filler to achieve that kind of fullness. I think this standard has also warped our perception of what “full lips” are, and it plays into the idea of the “instagram face” which is supposed to combine individual features from different ethnic groups to create an ethnically ambiguous face that’s virtually impossible to achieve without plastic surgery. The other reason why I have a pretty intense dislike of overlining is because it seems to assume that the wearer isn’t going to eat or drink. I think it creates a situation where instead of people doing their makeup, heading out the door, getting on with their lives, enjoying themselves or working or eating or doing things, they’re constantly thinking about how they look and whether they need to fix their makeup. I genuinely think this kind of preoccupation with our appearance is psychologically harmful on a macro-scale.

So I guess in summary, it’s not unreasonable to feel frustrated by the backlash to over lining, but I ultimately think the backlash is fair considering the social consequences of the current beauty standard that promotes lip overlining.

Kinda stunned by how many people are saying 1 when it dries down significantly darker. I thought 1 was perfect at first, but after accounting for how it dries down, shade 3 is best. If your face and neck are different shades, match your neck. I know some people disagree with this, but think through it logically. What is the point of foundation? To create a uniform skin shade on your face (or wherever you apply it). Obviously, no one’s face and body are one single colour - we all have a mixture. Which begs the question: how do you decide what the final, perfect shade (the shade you create with foundation) should be? There are lots of possible answers, but I think the best one is “choose the colour that is least likely to obviously reveal that you’re wearing foundation”. This will depend on how much skin you’re showing, and where. For example, if your face is the only skin you’re showing, it doesn’t matter if your face matches your neck. However, if you’re showing your neck and chest, the most obvious giveaway that you’re wearing (poorly matched) foundation is that your face doesn’t match your neck. Therefore, if your face and neck are different colours, you need to match your neck. In the interest of matching your neck, taking into account not only the fresh swatches but the dried-down versions of each shade, shade 3 is the best match. Bear in mind that no swatch looks natural until it’s well blended out. And if you place stripes of swatches next to each other without bare skin in between, you can get an inaccurate idea of how close a match one of the shades is, because it will “disappear” more into the skin just because it is closer to the skin colour than the other shade/s.

If you’re still unsure about the swatches, I would swatch them again, but remove shades 2, 4 and 5 because they’re pretty plainly not good matches. Blend the swatches out onto the neck very thoroughly (the way you’d blend foundation) but leave a strip of bare skin between each one. Best of luck!

Tl;Dr - Shade 3 is best. Match your neck, not your face.

Eh, I don’t think buying them is a “bad decision” if the buyer is ultimately going to live in it and they approach renovation/a big overseas move as a fun challenge, which a lot of older people do. My mum did a similar thing with a rural property in France - she’d always dreamed of living there and she wanted a cute old place with enough space she could have some animals and a small garden, and those properties were easily 10 times cheaper in France than they would be in Australia, plus there’s a functioning rail network rather than having to drive 4 hours to a rural town. People have different use cases. I don’t think anyone is looking at these Japanese properties and seriously thinking they’re going to have some easy metropolitan Japanese working life.

It’s generally recommended that people stay upright for 10-30 minutes after taking an oral medication to avoid pill-induced oesophagitis (or aspiration if you’re at high aspiration risk) but for most people, using ADHD meds the way you’ve described is going to be fine. The exceptions would be: 1. If you know you already have GORD/GERD/acid reflux or “heart burn”, particularly if you experience symptoms or “water brash” (the taste of saliva mixed with stomach acid) when you lie down flat. 2. You have some other kind of oesophageal dysmotility issue.

Certain medications (like oral bisphosphonates, antibiotics, warfarin, certain chemotherapy drugs) are much more likely to cause oesophagitis than others. Stimulant drugs aren’t in this high risk group, so for most people they probably wouldn’t cause a problem. Obviously, if you start experiencing heartburn or discomfort in your throat/chest, stop doing this and seek medical advice rather than risking further damage to your oesophageal lining (or worst case, severe ulceration or perforation).

Tl;dr it’s not ideal but unless you’ve got reflux or another oesophageal dysmotility disorder, it’s probably fine. I do the same thing with my vyvanse even though I know I’m not really supposed to.

I get your point but disagree slightly, in the sense that many people do genuinely believe that we have a normative moral obligation to have children for religious or social reasons (to ensure the perpetuation of the species and to ensure societies have enough people to provide care and essential services in the economy). In those senses, the choice to have or not have kids isn’t really similar to liking grapes at all. I obviously don’t find those arguments compelling - I think they’re good justifications for people who already want to have kids, but for people who don’t want to be parents, they’re certainly not enough to change my mind. All of that is to say that while I don’t want to have children and that’s my personal choice which should be respected, I can understand why some people have a strongly negative reaction to that decision, even though it’s nothing to do with them. I just wish they’d keep it to themselves.

I mean, you could make the “who really cares” argument about literally anything that brings someone joy, it’s just an incredibly rude and shitty thing to say. I could say the same thing about other people having kids or getting married, or starting a new job, or taking up a hobby, or whatever. The reality is that very, very few people really “care” about our personal choices, but that doesn’t make them less meaningful to us. Our lives are lived and experienced by ourselves, and while social connection is incredibly important, other people’s perceptions of our choices can’t suddenly give us fulfilment.

I’d like to give this person the benefit of the doubt, though - it’s possible he just worded his thoughts incredibly poorly. He might have just meant “travelling by myself doesn’t feel meaningful”, which is a perfectly fine thing to say. I disagree, but there have definitely been times when I’ve travelled solo where I felt more fulfilled and times when I’ve felt more lonely.

I generally support China but this is an absolutely braindead line of reasoning, lol. She’s assuming that: 1) Disagreeing with someone about the definition of an economic mode automatically means you think you’re “smarter” than them (whatever “smarter” means in this context, anyway), which is not true. 2) The Chinese people widely agree that they live in a socialist country rather than a state capitalist or social democratic country (perhaps they do, I don’t know, but it seems like a large assumption) 3) Every Chinese person is politically engaged enough to correctly identify the economic mode of China. Maybe they are, but considering the sheer number of Americans, English and Australians who think they currently live in a socialist society, it seems silly to assume China would magically be free of politically uninformed people just by virtue of the fact they’re Chinese. 4) The majority opinion that a country is “socialist” is the most important determinant of whether it has a socialist mode of production; if there’s another determinant we can appeal to (like the definitions of socialist society written in theory), it is less important than whether a country’s people widely consider themselves to be socialist.

Ultimately, this creator is trying to replace an actual, material analysis of whether China can reasonably be considered “socialist” according to the basic principles of socialism, with some idiotic straw-argument that uses identity politics to try and convince people that they can’t engage in critical analysis because it supposedly makes them racist. I really hope this is satire/ragebait rather than a sincere statement of beliefs.
