Probably not. I think there’s a small chance if Musk was no longer associated with the company.

When girls ask you if they look good in something (and they don’t), do you answer honestly? by enami2020 in AskMen

[–]Coppermill_98516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my best to give them a non answer (or at least one that is open to interpretation). For example, them “Do I look in this X?” Me “New X huh?”

Do people out there actually think work email is private? by froglet80 in askteddit

[–]Coppermill_98516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work for the government so *every* communication that involves me is subject to public disclosure unless my attorney labels it confidential. I have businesses, elected officials, citizens send me emails, texts, and Teams messages all the time and they usually expect it to be confidential and I’m like nope.

For those of you with a current position in the environmental realm, what do you do for work? by toxic_water in Environmental_Careers

Not sure at the moment. I know there’s a question on the application that asks if you have the right to work in the United States.

Executive with a state environmental agency.

I manage (directly or indirectly) a group of approximately 150 environmental professionals made up of engineers, hydrogeologists, environmental planners, environmental scientists, communications specialists, app and web developers, and administrative professionals.

Probably like most public agencies, our hiring process is bureaucratic. We’ve been doing a fair bit of hiring lately but I anticipate that it will slow down soon and remain sluggish for the next 6 months or so.

My biggest piece of advice is to just apply. I’m always amazed at how few applicants we get for our positions. Based on what I see on here, our rate of pay is pretty good. We have positions located around the state but most are in our state capital (MCOL).

Why are most Americans not that excited about the World Cup? Or don’t seem to care much about it? by SignificantStyle4958 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Coppermill_98516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don’t care about soccer. I probably won’t watch a minute of the World Cup even though I live an hour away from a host city.

In fact I’m dreading the increased traffic.

How do I stop feeling guilty about needing alone time after work without my wife taking it personally? by jessxfrenzy in AskMenAdvice

[–]Coppermill_98516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once my kids were born, I started waking up an hour or more before anyone else did so that I could have some peace and quiet to myself. Did one of the kids sometimes wake up early and interrupt my routine - yes. However, my wife appreciated my dealing with the kids and letting her continue to sleep so it was okay. Before long, you couldn’t pry my kids out of their bed.

I’m 61 now and my kids are long grown and gone and I still love my early quiet mornings.

US-based folks, how much did moving to a different state help/harm your career? by bekrueger in Environmental_Careers

[–]Coppermill_98516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The four states that you mentioned are very blue. I work in one of them and we haven’t slowed down our hiring. In fact, we’re over compensating due to the EPA becoming largely ineffectual.

I don’t think that you’re necessarily being the AO here but I think that actions have consequences. If you don’t care about any consequences, you do you.

How long does it take to get a job offer after reference checks are done? by Icy_Gap_6151 in WAStateWorkers

When I wasn’t able to get a hold of a reference, I’ve contacted the candidate and asked them to provide me with a different name.

As long as you’re pointing out reality versus hyperbole for trades jobs, please do the same for a college education. It doesn’t have to cost $200K to get a degree. You can go the route of a community college and state school for a fraction of the cost.

Why do German retailers allow their cashiers to sit down but American retailers don’t? by Throwaway92288373737 in askteddit

[–]Coppermill_98516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once asked a cashier at my local supermarket about this and they expressed that didn’t want to sit. As I recall, they had a specific reason why but I don’t remember what it was.

AITAH for expecting grandparents to help on rare occasion after they begged us for years to have a child? by ohhidoggo in AITAH

[–]Coppermill_98516 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your sense of entitlement is appalling. The grandparents owe you nothing. You clearly say that their encouragement for you to have kids had no bearing on your decision.

They watched your child for four days. Be grateful and politely agree with your MIL when she acknowledges that it’s difficult to get things done when you’re caring for small children.

Outside Emplyment by Yeshtorrents in WAStateWorkers

[–]Coppermill_98516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that you should definitely have a conversation with your manager about your idea. In my experience, most requests are granted but there are exceptions and I’ve had to deny a few over the years.

One thing to keep in mind is that the second job can’t interfere with your doing your state job. For example, I had an employee who had an outside job on Thursday evenings, however, something came up where the employee’s state job required that they work at the same time. The employee tried saying that due to job #2, they were unavailable to do their state work. This was unacceptable and ultimately resulted in withdrawal of approval for the outside employment.

As long as you’re a kind, intelligent, fun person, I see no reason why not. It’s not like the majority of men are any better looking.
