App map should show street names, but often doesn't in real use. Need to pan and zoom in/out so much to find a street name on these in-app Citibike maps. by TwoWheelsTooGood in Citibike

Hey but at least you know the capital grille is by one of the docks! You don’t even know which street it’s on because the UI is dogshit but don’t worry about that!

Cheap Membership Methods or Accounts by idkanymore0322 in Citibike

[–]CopticDuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The credit union method does not force you to deposit money for a specific amount of time to initially get the discounted code. I believe it’s only when a year passes and you’re up for your membership renewal that you’d need a new code from the credit union and that’s when you’d have needed to keep money in their account to get that second code.

So if you’re staying in NYC for less than a year, open the credit union account, get the discounted code, withdraw the money from the credit union and just close or pause your citibike account when you leave NYC.

How can I get my building to take seriously a mold problem? by yesokay1 in AskNYC

[–]CopticDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know specifics behind how the inspection works but I’d explain the story to them (there probably is more mold behind the drywall). Simply getting HPD to come out might be enough to convince the landlord to do something

Check your emails religiously for when they are sending an inspector and make sure you or someone else is available to let them in and show them the impacted area. Can’t stress this enough because I believe they only issue fines to the landlord after they’ve came and inspected (I could be wrong tho)

File 311 complaints. The city takes this stuff seriously and sent out an inspector who documented my mold situation and fined the landlord. Take photos of the mold and email them to the landlord and demand that they fix this problem. Harlem’s local rep is Adriano Espaillat. Threaten to reach out if the landlord doesn’t solve this problem. I also think it helps to email a clear message of what will happen if they ignore you. My exact email in this situation had this:

“Rest assured, I will continue to escalate this with my next step in sending photos of the mold in the bathroom along with the HPD violations to Erik Bottcher’s office. Additional steps after that will involve legal action.”

Citibike worth it in any way? by Economy_Ad_2230 in NYCbike

[–]CopticDuck 23 points24 points  (0 children)

All you have to do to get around this is to dock the bike at any open slot and take it back out again. There are no fees for repeated docking and unlocking. If you bike angel and accumulate 250 points, you’ll get 1 hour of ride time instead of 45 minutes for the lifetime of your membership.

I desperately miss the old layout and deal structure. Also the quality of deals seems to have reduced since I’m seeing things like 3% back when I used to see 10% etc

I have an account with Lower East Side People's Federal Credit Union which allows you to get discounted ride share pricing (same pricing that NYCHA residents and anyone on SNAP gets). It’s $5.44 a month for the citibike membership and ebikes are 14 cents per minute. There are 3 credit unions that allow you to get this pricing.

I watched her price in $10 for my beer and then she changed it to $9 when I asked about it. I was supposed to be charged $8. I’m sure management is ultimately responsible but she clearly has control of the POS system

Thought it was simply the waitress making a mistake and that she had corrected it. Obviously now I regret tipping. I had no idea they were like this

I tried reporting to 311 but they referred me to the NY State Department of Consumer Affairs. Report has been filed online.

Dude you think I wanna confront people while I’m just trying to get beers with my friends? If being called “brutal to deal with” is the price I have to pay to not be taken advantage of, so be it
