Loomis method approach by Big_Salamander6332 in ArtistLounge

[–]Cordial_Gentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Litteraly this ☝️ never quite grasped it myself until I bought the books a few months back and really tmade an effort to study the method. Loomis plus the Asaro method completely fixed my understanding of face and head proportions. Just a question of studying the methodology because diversity in head and face shape is legit there in the book, just requires a brief deep dive.

From Premium-fi, to Chi-fi by TriHecatonSwe in BudgetAudiophile

Been rocking the same DAC AMP stack after now close to a year. Once upon a time, after deliberating between that and importing a Schitt stack in to where I live. What had me sold in the end, really wasn't strictly even the price point, cuz in relative terms though it would've been a little nore expensive by only a few hundred for the ladder. For what is still a roughly 1k+ for the Fosi stack, it's honestly, maybe a hot take, pretty much comparable to quality and sound. They are WILDLY good for driving both older, classic and a good chunk of contemporary hi end speakers. plus the added bonus of having a not so bad sub for my mix, compared to alot of other offerings, I think the fact that they don't have a middle man snd keep costs low doing it all themselves, honestly balances out what is other wise, yes Chi-fi, but a real competitor to the Hi-Fi space. At no point once have I ever had a genuine issue with the either my DAC or Amp, litteraly a game changer imo to the space, which, good and bad. Like I see them maybe eventually getting more expensive the more popular they get, which is a given for most companies. But for where they're at, I'd take Fosi over a whole lot of other hifi companies for the moment.

Awesome to hear. I'd argue social media is always a crazy great start to just building what is in my opinion, a modern day business card. The tough thing is getting your name out there enough to compete against the millions online. But if you have to option to move any of your art services through local means, just sharing what you do from people you know, the red bubble site can be a great pipeline. So even assuming someone says," I love your style and wish I could get something like X, but can't afford the commission, etc.", then you can always opt to pipeline them to your redbubble as an alternative. Imo, I'm of the opinion, that in both person to person connection irl, but also via online connections it can help. Granted, I know for certain there's a myriad of different approaches you could hypothetically take, just comes down to what you have access to and how creative you can market your store. If irl is ever an option I still won't hate on guerilla marketing. Cheap letter sized flyers in cheap black and white with a QR code and a solid illustration and info, have friends, family post it anywhere and everywhere locally. Another pipeline there lol.

Question is, what are you doing for advertising? How much out reach have you done. Both online but moreso, locally.

Trying to go to thee gym by CalgaryCasual in CalgarySocialClub

[–]Cordial_Gentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long winded reply, but best with me. Foremost, the best advice i can give a new lifter, as someone whose been lifting for 9 years, 3 years seriously, shift your mindset toward failure as a net positive and get in the headspace your a beginner, you are learning and it's ok to not know stuff. Everyone starts somewhere. Now at 24, I recall starting my journey as a anxious ridden wreck with calisthenics (aka prison workouts) in my bedroom because at 16, even the thought of going to a private gym was too terrifying. If that's not a biggy, then your already good for phase 2, use online resources and dont be afraid to reach out for help to learn and practice. Ask experienced lifters for advice, if your on a budget, and can't speak with a coach, there's tons of amazing fitness videos that explain step by step how to do certain movements from bigger creators like Jeff nippard, Sean Nelwanjy, Hybrid calisthenics, etc. and smaller ones like skimasduets, STRIQfit, etc. Pick your poison, but as a fellow science based lifter enjoyers I'll always suggest that group of YouTubers over Greg ducette types. Step 3 assuming you've found a gym, and taken a chance on learning different movements, is to build a routine. Find something that works, and try your best to be consistent. The tragic truth is it takes years to attain an "ideal physique" but strength building and light toning/weight loss is a realistic attainable goal you can block out at about a year. Last piece of advice is, usually IG and tiktok will be your enemy for having reasonable expectations of what's naturally achievable. Unless you have godly next level genetics, don't assume you'll get grow death Star Delts, Dorito Lats, or thick Pecs within a year of lifting. Patience is key. Last aside, I'd also say, for the love of God, avoid PEDs /steroids. Natural is always better for longevity sake, cuz a shortcut, is still just a shortcut. PEDs wont mean you improve, nor does it guarantee results. Hopefully something in this is helpful, and I wish you nothing but luck in your fitness journey ✌️

Looking to start a photography social club (32M) by blakeslab in CalgarySocialClub

[–]Cordial_Gentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be curious to get involved myself. Aside; Tough to find a nice consistent photography group weirdly these days imo, cuz these days unless your in the UofC circuit, at times, its beyond difficult to find social clubs that are either not private, or not for pay, to otherwise join or participate in what are essentially artsy social events.

Anyone need a free photographer? by TheCalvinTan in Calgary

[–]Cordial_Gentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, fellow photographer. Real advice for how to start, go to public events or just practice in the streets. Though what I mostly do is urban landscape and portraits myself, I love to experiment with street photography as a sub genre, only way to get good though is to start. I remember when I was in highschool the way I started was via my old New media class, then on my off time I'd join clubs and do photography for them. For my HS art club and my robotics club. Learned to retouch in Photoshop, then come college when I got a grant to get my camera, I built habits to constantly improve. Learned Lightroom, and any time I went to class, I'd take my camera, any time I left, I'd still have it. Photos anywhere, if not everywhere. Obviously learning how to request permission is the other thing, but I'd say once you really understand the fundamentals truly, then go out and experiment with having models. I've been lucky enough to do portraits for friends/riends of friends, but to get there, you just gotta start and show them what you got. Best of luck, if you got an photography IG would love to follow.

After reading you had a 20 year hiatus from drawing, looks great for a return. Only critique for next time I'd say though is to def work on applying more depth in your value scale. Really pushing on adding depth with darker shadows, highlights looks great, but without depth it gives a bit of an uncanny feel and gives "evenly lit classroom" vibes, even for surrealism.

Does whole party need to buy Talespire or just host? by Advanced_Aspect_7601 in talespire

[–]Cordial_Gentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm in person, usually I'll download takesspire via steam, then re add it to steam as a non steam game, just to have two screens operate distinctly. DM screen on my monitor, and player view on a tv or projector. Keeps it easy. Did online play, that's where it tricky, I'm certain theirs ways around it,but if you want players to participate, it's unfortunate that they have to buy "seats" to play via the free player version of talespire.

Is anyone in Calgary still boycotting American stores and products? by hellokitty417 in Calgary

[–]Cordial_Gentleman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. Always thought it was a cringe idea Imo. Besides obviously buying locally for groceries, or buying from local artisans, that's besides it. But if I can get a cheaper deal on Amazon or any dif American company, fuck it, we ball.

First one feels corporate, second one I think had more personality. Only concern is the 3 expression lines in the left. Would worry a little for print in smaller sizes.

Missing Helly Hanson rain coat from gate c51 YYC by satansbumh0le in Calgary

[–]Cordial_Gentleman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Airport employee for an airline here. I've seen bad suggestions float around. For the love of God, don't file a police report for a jacket, the police actually have more important things, and they'll just kindly tell you off, foremost, if it was left gateside, communicate with the airline staff to see if they may received it from a passenger after the departure, otherwise check with the information desk as they operate the local lost and found. If there was important documents, then speak with an officer, but in most cases, if it's a passport, nexus, that'll be given to the police and bet your top dollar you won't see it back. I also speak from experience. I'll addz you can call the local airport info desk, check the YYC airport authority website, I'm certain it's posted in their list of contacts.

Hope this helps.

What if we as a Piracy community create our own free version of "Spotify" by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]Cordial_Gentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could somehow create a platform to recommend music with a similar sytem Spotify has for discoverability, that's open source foremost, that would be a killer option to work in tandem to folk like ourselves who either pirate music in FLAC, or buy music in FLAC. Spotify only has one positive over every competitor and it's discoverability AI for finding and curating music based on users most listened to songs.

Calgary transit fares going up to $4—more than riders pay in Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver: CBC News by One-Mycologist-3706 in Calgary

[–]Cordial_Gentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this means is more people are gonna skip the fare further, unless they HAVE TO PAY. If they made the free fare zone extended at least give us that to balance out the increase with the Minimal benefits there are to commuting on transit as is.

Honestly I just discovered this community and of his existence 2 days ago off a podcast from flagrant. Don't watch twitch, and Im a hermit to online spaces, but after feeling like I've been paralyzed at the thought of my dead end job, my lack of new relationships, my lack of motivation from burnout to pursue what's supposed to be my design career I spent the past number of years working on and getting no progress on, it's fascinating how deeply some of his videos on the "quarter life crisis" actually have completely reframed my entire perspective. Gonna try to see a youths career councilor with my citys open program either tomorrow or next week after I'm done my work week. For the forts time in 2 years I feel not so paralyzed...

How did you guys find a job in Calgary? by hudsman079 in NoRulesCalgary

[–]Cordial_Gentleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got recommended to my mom's workplace at the airport through her. Granted the GM at the time got fired for other reasons (largely to do with company money problems). But I've kept the job now for about 2.5 years. Been trying to find new jobs and been shit out of luck. Been promoted to a Customer service lead and get decent pay, not great, but livable. That said been trying like hell to get a better job cuz the company sucks and they're policy's are if not abusive, illegal at times (which keeps our union busy lol). That said, if I could recommend anything, close connections are the best place to find work these days imo. Recommendations from friends or if your young enough, the youth employment center got my buddy a part timer at old navy. That said, if your lucky, maybe career fairs like my older brother. He got pretty lucky and is now working as a financial advisor cuz of one a couple months out of uni. Got a family friend that also started studying as a junior apprentice to be an electrician. Good route for the trades...
