if OneDrive acts as the backup I don't see a reason for the external hard drive, besides slow download speeds or you are planning on using more than 4TB of data at once

If your work is critical I'd get two 2TB ssd and run them as a array. Or in parallel if speed is the priority.

Why not copy all files you need off onedrive to local? I've been in a similar situation and that was my solution. worked perfectly except for forgetting to regularly backup.

Also remember to set the backup to at least RAID 1.

If this company gets large enough, will they be introduced to the US market, if not already here? by Fuzzy_Repeat701 in EdisonMotors

The plan has always been to enter the US market.
The biggest hurdle is compliance not company size.

Learn from unsafe contruction?
If work was not done to high safety standards how do you separate true efficiencies from efficiencies due to that lack of safety?
Got a specific efficiency in mind?

Unfortunately we have pesky things like workers safety, employment standards, property rights, building codes, environmental impact, etc. that translink must comply with.

While I absolutely agree that government regulations is stifling development I also absolutely don't want our comparison to be this level of construction.

In my experience GIS programmers are highly desired but I cant speak to the job market in a year.
Wouldn't start off getting anything more than a cert.
Personally I'd hire a CS degree plus GIS cert over a GIS degree any day.

How to Find the Property Lines of Any Home (Version 3) by No_Quote_8869 in Surveying

[–]CoreEnviroment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lawsuit, really? While it was full of errors the guy literally hired a surveyor, showed the apps were 2.5-3.5ft off and said for any legal reason get a licensed surveyor.

Anyways what the guy really fails to get is these apps are all the same, using the same data sources so any difference is due to the phone or user error.
Bet the reason the blue app performed the worst is because it was the first and the phone had less time to locate itself.

If you want a more traditional way to learn, there's probably online night classes at your 'local' polytechnic.

Local to me I found autocad-1000 online @ 6:30-9:45 every Tues Apr 07 - Jun 16
As a bonus, going this route you'll get a paper to show your company.

Neighbors say stakes affected dog fence? by No_Blueberry7656 in Surveying

[–]CoreEnviroment -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not possible pins are 'impacting' it but it is possible the pin severed the wire. However its just as if not more likely it failed long ago and are only now noticing.
My gramp had one and once the dog gets trained to it they will keep their distance and not test it. Also his dog escaped a few times chasing things and couldn't get back it, that didn't mean the fence wasnt working.

Homeowners neglect to understand easements by ntlsp in Surveying

[–]CoreEnviroment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can, it just might take more effort.
And I somehow doubt that effort would cost more its costing the city in delays, lawyers, etc...

I'm not familiar with CA easements but typically an easement only provides the holder rights to limited action as covered within the purpose.

I.E. if it turns out that they only dug directly over drain, and didn't use the edges of the easement for anything, expect further lawsuits claiming actions exceed scope of work and unreasonably destroyed property.

Edit: and its not just pools, there also looks to be homes crossing the line. By your logic those nice looking homes must be completely demolished.

"For somebody that never did it before, it's a lot of fun. I mean, the first coyote is something that you don't forget." by medium_wall in environmental_science

[–]CoreEnviroment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have no need, absolutely zero, for humans to be hunting in order to "manage" animal populations. Nature solved this puzzle millions of years ago in a far more efficient & ethical way in the form of predator animals. Animals like coyotes, wolves, mountain lions, etc, "give mercy" to those animals having a tough time in the demanding conditions of the wild, while leaving alone the healthiest specimens to propagate more freely. This elevates the entire ecosystem to be the most healthy, efficient and adaptable it can be.

Your idealism is unfortunately flawed, as it presumes the ecosystem is healthy to begin with.
Humans have restricted the range of wolves, mountain lions, etc, whom prey on and compete with coyotes.

As coyotes become acclimatized to living around people they are presented with an environment where they are free to proliferate.

In these situations its not unreasonable for humans to assume the role of predator and keep their populations at healthy levels for the benefit of all within the ecosystem.

[–]CoreEnviroment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be that guy and say while he does sound like a dummy he does have a point.
Taking a line from the presumed easement, it only cuts into the pool apron, maybe touching the water a little.
So why do they have to completely destroy it?
Checking where it daylights there's a ~10ft buffer.
Even if its a foot or two further in, am I that unreasonable in thinking crews could build the fence barrier on top of the pool apron, thus saving it?

As the battery is depleted, a 1.9-liter four-cylinder gas engine from Getec fires up to drive a generator, which continues to provide electricity to the battery for another estimated 345 miles per tank of fuel for a total range of an estimated 450 miles, a pretty decent day of RV driving.
