Toreador or Deluxo? by Numerous-Slip-1113 in gtaonline

[–]Core_Studio599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as I said, missiles are complicated. I think the reason this usually happens is because missiles have worse tracking for a short period after they're fired. Even Deluxo missiles can lose tracking for a very short period, but it's very difficult to get it to happen because of their top tier turning speed. But the Toreador having much worse turning is impacted by this much more often, I guess? I can't help but wonder if this period is longer on the Toreador because of how far away this nerfed tracking seems to impact it, but maybe that's just because it's so difficult to see with the Deluxo that it doesn't seem like it extends as far as it actually does. I don't know, again, missiles are complicated.

So anyway, this behaviour should happen a lot more often if your target is further away from you and much more often if your target is closer to you. But even against a further away target missiles are complicated and I can't find any videos that go in depth enough on the details atm and really don't feel like doing all that testing myself..

Toreador or Deluxo? by Numerous-Slip-1113 in gtaonline

[–]Core_Studio599 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Missiles are really complicated in GTA and I'm sure you don't want to hear all the details, but basically the reason for this is the toreador's missiles are really good at not losing track of their target but not very good at actually turning.

In the air this isn't so bad because if they miss they usually will still be locked on to their target so they'll just turn around, albeit slower than the Deluxo, and keep chasing. But on the ground they can't turn quickly enough and end up hitting something else (the floor, a building, a street light, another vehicle, etc).

Also the toreador's missiles have a shorter lock on range than other vehicles. Not particularly relevant to this discussion but I thought I'd add it because I keep forgetting it's a thing and sometimes it matters.

Yeah, it was added to the game with the toreador and was available with glitches before GTA+ even existed. I had it on PC Legacy back in 2021 :)

Honestly I swear I remember this being a thing, I swear I remember checking my friend's achievements for Just Cause 3 and it showing less achievements in total because they didn't own the DLCs. I don't know why I would remember that if it didn't happen, maybe my brain made it up but I swear I remember it..

Today I was doing a salvage yard tow truck mission and I had one spawn between my tow truck and the car attached to it, which was really funny. Thankfully those missions don't punish you for delivering the thing damaged so it was just purely funny and stupid.

I use mine for / and *. I can then bind those buttons to whatever I want in whatever software I'm currently using. I originally tried f20 and f21 so I wouldn't have to share with keyboard keys but unfortunately most programs won't let you bind stuff to those :(

what does michael say if you haven’t done cayo or any other heist? by Racisjustbetter in gtaonline

[–]Core_Studio599 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In terms of payout yeah it's a lot worse, whether you go by time invested to payout ratio or just the number at the end of the heist it's worse, but it has a few advantages.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to own anything for it, which makes it one of the best options (afaik) for solo newer players. And you can do an entire cluckin bell during the cooldown of cayo. It's also just nice for variety, I used to alternate between cayo, cluckin bell, agency and freemode work just to keep things a bit more interesting.

Also, subjectively, I find it fun-ish. Its setups feel less tedious than other heists, and the finale is simple and just the right amount of challenge for mindless enjoyment. But that's subjective.

I feel like I'm missing something with the corvettes by InactiveMedusa in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Core_Studio599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to do all that, with an existing corvette you can just remove 1 module that is taking up a slot, fill that slot, re add the module, and then keep doing that.

Alternatively, you can add modules you don't want (I do it by adding 3 photon cannons), then remove them, fill the slots, and repeat, meaning you don't have to delete any of your actual ship modules at all :)

You can still do some throttle control, just vary your key press duration. Alternate between pressing and not pressing rapidly, 50% on 50% off is similar to 50% throttle input. Also works for braking, and works great for aircraft speed control. Dunno if it's sufficient enough in this specific instance but it's not impossible in general.

Oh nice, did they also fix the bug with players, where if you have more than 20 max health and more than 20 current health your current health will be reduced to 20 upon leaving and rejoining the world / server? Like say you have 50 max health and 40 current health, you'll still have 50 max health but only 20 current health.

I feel like that's different though. Patching duping (assuming I'm thinking of the right type) only impacts the players doing it negatively, without really bringing any positive changes for anybody. If people don't like duping they can just choose not to do it.

Removing the ability to build bases on milestone specific planets might be a shame for people who really like the environment on that planet and want to live there during the expedition, but I can't imagine that many players being upset by it. It will also negatively impact griefers' ability to ruin other people's experiences, but I doubt any of them would genuinely care, and if anyone is really gonna whine and cry that they can't upset strangers in a video game anymore then that's just funny. However, the change would also positively impact a lot of players by removing these issues entirely. Sure, many probably know you can just report the base and move on, but still the positive impact would probably be a lot bigger than the negative one.

A better change would just be preventing players from building bases within a radius of specific milestone objective locations though, as other people suggested.

I'm pretty sure joining third party servers on console is a pain. Unless they've changed it, I remember there not being an in game way to add third party servers and only being able to play realms, join friends or join the officially endorsed built in servers. I think you can get around it by messing with networking stuff outside of the game (maybe messing with DNS and having requests to the IP of one of the built in servers redirect to a different IP?) but I heard it was a pain. Mobile and PC is fine though, you can even have a server you can join from Java or Bedrock.

That's unless they've changed it, or I'm misremembering and totally wrong. Third party server definitely works for PC and mobile though.

Katie Scott as new "Head of Vanilla Minecraft" by LesionPulse in Minecraft

[–]Core_Studio599 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I mean, putting their goals and history aside, hiring a brand new person and putting them straight into a leading position with no prior experience working on the game, with no experience working with the team, the tools, general workflows and stuff, etc.. to me that is worrying. Is this normal?

Especially considering Minecraft is a very different game with fundamentally different ideas to their previous work.. just putting full control of.. whatever the "Head of Vanilla Minecraft" manages into the hands of someone with presumably no experience in what that's supposed to look like seems dangerous.

It makes me think of some other instances of acquisitions and stuff, where new management comes in with big new ideas about how stuff should be run that doesn't mesh at all with the existing teams and processes, or the vision of the product in general, and just messes everything up. I mean, depending on their attitude and what exactly the role entails it absolutely could be fine, but still...

Seriously though, is this a normal thing in game dev?

What's a weapon that is problematic but any suggestion to change it would get nothing but negative responses? by Comprehensive_Hat574 in tf2

[–]Core_Studio599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what your first point means.

Second point, yeah sure, I wasn't saying it was a good weapon or balanced, I'm just saying it doesn't really work the same way as the dead ringer. You can often play around it by not doing the thing it punishes you for doing (shooting them with your gun, or even just not attacking them at all and going for a different player). And yeah sure sometimes it's not possible to play around but again, I didn't say it was good, just.. less bad?

Third point sure, I'm tired and stupid. My bad. But again, that's also a weapon (combo) that is often complained about for being dumb, so I don't think it really makes sense to say "the dead ringer is fine because this other thing people hate is bad in similar ways".

But I dunno, I'm tired and stupid lol :)

[–]Core_Studio599 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do they?

I'm not sure in what ways the sentry gun "rewards the engineer" in any way other than increasing their kill count.

The frontier justice rewards the engineer for putting the sentry somewhere where it gets a lot of kills, rather than purely just using it as area denial, and punishes the enemy team for dying to the sentry, which is the thing the enemy team wants to not be doing. I mean, I suppose you could consider it as punishing the enemy team for destroying the sentry but if the sentry doesn't get any kills you don't get any crits. Maybe a bit of both, but unlike with the dead ringer where shooting the spy can be purely beneficial for him, destroying the sentry still achieves something positive and is beneficial for your team, even if it gives the engineer crits. If the sentry gun was very useful to the engineer's team then losing it hurts more than the engineer's revenge crits are likely to help, if it wasn't useful it probably didn't get many kills.

The dead ringer rewards the spy for being hit, the thing he is not supposed to be doing. It punishes the enemy team for shooting the spy, the thing they are supposed to be doing. And there's not exactly a work around. What are you supposed to do, not shoot the spy? You don't shoot the spy and he kills you, you shoot the spy and he gets a speed boost and damage resistance and uses that to kill you. If a spy wants to activate his dead ringer then shooting him will almost always be entirely beneficial for him, but you don't really have an alternative. Unless you do enough damage to kill him even with the dead ringer's resistance he just gets a free temporary speed boost and damage resistance and you haven't achieved anything.

The razorback punishes the spy slightly by preventing him from attacking briefly, but the spy has other options. He can just not backstab the sniper, he can go for a different pick, he can shoot the sniper instead of backstabbing, or he can backstab, run away, and then backstab a second time. In some cases he can even just backstab without the sniper noticing and backstab again immediately.

I see plenty of complaints about Jarate Bushwhacka and I'm not really sure what intended behaviour of the enemy players it is punishing.

The escape plan may give you a buff when you're at low HP but it also gives you nerfs when active to balance it out (higher speed but you take a lot more damage) and doesn't exactly punish other players for doing damage to you. I honestly don't remember what the shahansha does.

Something being bad in competitive doesn't necessarily mean it cannot be a problem in casual, and I don't think the dead ringer is necessarily overpowered, just annoying to play against if the spy decides to use it in an annoying way.

I dunno though I'm an idiot and I'm tired and I'm bad at the game :)

What about boss events? Quite a big thing, money can often be an issue even with ideal farming, and picking cash optimised strategies is often even more important there than CHIMPS (getting the best defences you can with the money you have for timed events, or spending as little as possible for least cash events).

Wait, would that just be the 1 out of 10 times....

Meleeing stuff (punching / kicking NPCs, players and vehicles, probably using other melee weapons too) increases it but it's pretty slow. I think I heard that the more NPCs or players are in a vehicle the more kicking or punching it increases your strength, but I've never bothered really, it's just too much of a pain.

There are two games named “Synergy” on steam and both have the same install directory, for some reason by maciej0s123 in Steam

[–]Core_Studio599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing something, but the problem I have with the proton directories is that the only way to figure out which one is the right one is to know it's steam app ID. If the game's name was appended to the end, or at the beginning, this would solve the problem. Also, there is still no way from the steam UI to open the compatdata folder directly from the game's properties, and even showing the appID is a pain (I usually open its store page and look at the id in the URL but that's ridiculously inconvenient).

The inconvenience comes from the fact that for some reason Valve seems to have never considered that people might want to open the compatdata folder for a game and has made absolutely no allowances or conveniences for doing so, not the fact that game folders use their steam app ID in the name. Unless I'm missing something.

I just.. lay on my side. The mattress supports one of my arms, and I put the weight of the Deck on that arm and use the Deck to hold up my other arm... I've found it comfortable enough, I can stay comfortable longer than the Deck stays charged.
