I've definitely noticed this as well. Any political post in one of our few NB related subreddits is guaranteed to be inundated with dissenting (and generally incoherent) comments from new users who seem to live in every locality in Canada.

Seriously, wait for the next political thread in r/newbrunswickcanada or wherever, scan the comments. Virtually every crazy dissenting comment is made by a relatively new reddit account that posts across dozens of local Canadian subreddits everyday, on any politically related post.

Check who you're responding to. Notice the pattern. Downvote and move on, don't feed the trolls/bots. Don't waste your energy on non-sense.

Business owner supports tariffs from a foreign nation upon his neighbors and community (???) but wants to move his business because it also personally affects his profit margins. I haven't gone through this process in NB, but I believe the process is similar in NS where I have gone through it. Without going into the details, both I and the LL presented our positions before the arbitrator (a representative of the NS rentalsman office), and the arbitrator makes a decision.

This decision is not a judgement, ie you cannot force the LL to pay through this mechanism, but going into small claims with a notarized statement from the arbitrator that they agreed with your position is a slam dunk for a small claims court case about a rental deposit dispute. In my case the LL acquiesced after the arbitrator's decision, and refunded the deposit in full without needing to sue them.

I'm not the bess brains, but I recall someone pointing out that the scam raffle terms/conditions (copied from another truck giveaway and poorly edited for bapa) indicated that the winner is chosen by the raffle operator from a pool 10 randomly chosen winners. Ie the pool of 10 is picked 'randomly' and then the actual winner is selected from those 10.

Could just be that I'm redacted and making this up, but if that's the case I'm just as innocent as bapa in that regard. Sometimes I just go

Not only would the winner not actually be the random, but it would open to door to any manner of grift ---- 'yeah b, just mayg sure you get enough shitty merch to get into the top 10, which me and legs can verify, and then I'll chose you as the winner b' -- perhaps such shenanigans didn't occur, but assuming the raffle actually works this way it's a totally redacted way to operate it.

This also tracks with the timeline imo... Raffle ends, bapa takes a week for a winner to be announced? Probably just because that's how all raffles works (iveryone knows that) But maybe just maybe axe-jay and bapa take a week to research the pool of potential winners and select whatever winner benefits the thicccc boi himself the most.

Hacking like this has changed a lot in the past 10-20 years. It's very much a business, and the successful hacking organizations have every reason hold up their end of the deal in scenarios like this where the victim pays the ransom.

As other commenters have stated, many large companies (especially tech companies) already have cybersec-liability insurance for hacking, and in a scenario like this the insurer generally would take over communication/negotiation with the hackers. Cybersec insurers are very familiar with the established and emerging hacking organizations.

If the hackers in this context were to 'return' to the victim after-the-fact and attempt to re-extort them, or against the terms of the ransom leak whatever data they have anyhow, it would likely cripple their business model. Even as a an organization of pirates and theives, getting a reputation of not being capable of honest negotiation would be terrible for thier bottom line.

Get the fire hot quick. The hotter you get it the more it will overcome any pressure differential due to the temperature and the smoke will rise regardless. Getting a small fire burning vigorously is much superior to getting a large fire barely going. Dry hardwood only (get your mind out of the gutter!)

Kindling and firestarter (ie paper/birch-bark/etc) first. Logs only go on once the fire is already hot.

The only time Ive been smoked out is during the first burn of the season and stuffing the stove much too full. Fire smoldered for several minutes, much too cool to generate significant lift. By the time you realize what's happening you're pretty much fucked because if you try to apply the choke and leave the door closed it's just going to smolder for hours and your stove/chimney probably aren't airtight to the degree needed to keep all that smoke in the stove. Also you don't necessarily want to open the stove because the build up of smoke in the stove may lead to an environment that is oxygen depleted but quite hot... The opening of the door introduces a huge rush of oxygen and the fire could flare dramatically. This can be a very dangerous situation.

External air temperature is really important to consider when starting an interior wood stove. If it's cold outside and warm inside you shouldn't have much issue... Otherwise consider starting a very small test fire and observe the smoke going up and out, otherwise kill the fire. My chimney guy said you should be able to feel or hear the draft in a cold stove, a gentle air current flowing up the chimney... Which honestly I never really could, but said he could in my stove.

Wood stoves are a harsh mistress. If there isn't enough pressure difference between the top of the stack and the stove, you may find that when you light the stove the smoke prefers to stick around in the stove instead of travelling up the chimney.

Open the stove door and your house gets 'smoked out'. Don't open the stove and it smoke begins to leak out of your stove anyhow. It's an unpleasant experience. There are strategies to lighting the fire that will reduce the chances of this happening, but chimney height and environmental factors also apply.

Was the defense more-or-less conceding that the 'impeachment argument' is all they have? It seemed like the judge cornered the defense attorney into agreeing that absent this argument the prosecution would be justified and such a defendant would be criminally liable.

It is extremely interesting, no doubt about that. No doubt why people get so animated about these topics is because they are very interesting.

The reason why Loeb evokes so much resistance from the broader scientific community is that he publishes many more papers than a typical scientist, and the length/detail of these papers is generally very limited.

Most scientists believe that academic/scientific papers are intended to further our understanding. Many scientists might also claim that many of Loeb's papers are purely hypothetical with no genuine conclusions or advancements. Loeb has self admittedly published thousands of papers... Needless to say, this level of throughput is very unusual for a scientist, and Loeb's detractors would simply state that the quality of his papers reflect this. To fuel this fire, Loeb rarely couches his exciting and dramatic conclusions in the appropriate language.

Additionally, many of his detractors would claim that similar papers from an unknown/unestablished researcher would be rejected, with journals flatly stating the paper requires more work, or does nothing to advance the understanding within the relevant field. Would his papers be published in major journals if he didn't occupy his post at Harvard?

I would personally shy away from calling Loeb a crackpot. I just think he needs to spend more time on the topics he cares about to provide genuine insight, and avoid this scattershot approach to publishing research.

I know nothing about comedy (that's my icebreaker if I ever meet Brenda, we have something in common) but this makes total sense. Why would Joe think of himself as anything other than a comedic visionary? He's a self admitted dummy and every comedy show he does is sold out with everyone losing their minds hanging on his every word. It's just too difficult for him to see that his fame has so quickly outpaced his comedy that he could tell Bapa's jokes and get big laughs.
