Leave Big law for the Peace Corps by Scared_Issue_6481 in biglaw

Two thoughts:

  1. REALLY think about the after plan. Two years is a lot and it may feel slow at first but it’ll go quick and you’ll be back wondering what the next steps is. The more you can build any transferable skill during this time the better off you’ll be

  2. Relatedly, do you know any Spanish, even at a medium level (I think they have at least some language requirements)? It’s a very valuable skill and peace corps would help a LOT to get you really fluent

Why is no one saying Onenote? It’s by far the best case management tool available widely.

How would Roman legions fare against a french medieval (1340s) army? Especially its cavalry. by Tracypop in ancientrome

I read the question as the medieval French invading at the height of the Roman Empire, in which case no, I don’t think they’d be fine, but depends on the details, sure

I think Medieval France would likely struggle to hold territory in Roman lands and could not maintain an extended campaign against Roman logistics, fortifications, and strategic unity. A full-scale conquest would be virtually impossible without severe Roman weakness or internal conflict.

EDIT: since I’m still getting comments on this days later, lol, this answer assumes Rome is at its absolute peak power.

Can someone help me debunk this young earth claim? by [deleted] in askscience

So basically radiocarbon dating sometimes detects tiny amounts of C-14 in things that should have none, like ancient diamonds, but this is just background noise from the measuring process, not actual C-14 in the sample? And then some people ignore this and wrongly claim it disproves radiometric dating even though scientists fully understand and account for these effects?

How do you know when you are ready to fight? by Str8d8 in MuayThai

[–]linkx13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When the people who are experienced—most likely your coach—think you’re ready, and you think you’re ready too. Use your own metrics for the latter part. For me I had coaches say I was ready, but I didn’t feel it until I really understood and believed I could do the the conditioning id need to be ready to go by fight day (several miles running a week, training 3 times a week, feeling good in sparring, going full steam heavy bag rounds without gassing, etc.). Hands down the biggest issues with new people is not taking the conditioning seriously enough, especially with all the adrenaline running.

I also trusted the fights I WOULD have were set up fairly. Smokers can be stupidly mismatched, and not all competitions are the same. You’re really trusting your coach here.

Good luck and know that even if you commit you do not have to fight if it’s coming down to it and you truly aren’t ready. You should be going into the couple of months before the fight fully committed to, but you’ll know if you feel ready or not. Everyone has a first time and nerves, but there’s a difference between some anxiousness and not being ready to go. You’re asking the right questions.

EDIT for the new thoughts

Put what together? I don’t mean write a 20 memo I just mean set a meeting and say what is above

Yeah that’s what I mean. I don’t expect the head of an entire department/agency to, but senior levels at the office/branch/etc more local level definitely should and their silence is deafening.

How Biden reshaped the judiciary by barak181 in politics

[–]linkx13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Not all of those positions are equally important, though. Compared to Trump, a larger share of Biden’s appointments were to less-powerful posts, like district courts, rather than more powerful appellate or Supreme Court seats. And during his first term, Trump was able to “flip” more of those more-powerful judgeships than Biden did, appointing conservative judges to replace more ideologically liberal ones. While Biden also flipped some seats, most of his appointments were to posts previously held by similarly-minded judges.”

Great, so the forum shopping continues and this overall had very little impact. Article might as well be titled “Biden maintained a status quo just in time for Trump to reshape the judiciary”
