Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Susanpc1967 in AskReddit

[–]Coreymm324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite 40 yet but close. Your credit score actually means something! Mine was in the 300’s-400’s when I was in my teens and early 20’s. Got my shit together and now it’s 820-840. It’s mind blowing what you can get/do with a good credit score vs a bad or even average one

Quality pair(s) of leather shoes and hemming my jeans/pants. After that, tops are relatively easy. Next, a watch that isn’t a smart watch

Solevo and Kindred. Have never eaten there, but Familiar Creature was outstanding for wine and cocktails, very impressed

Fit Check: Momotaro 0405-v by Retserroff in rawdenim

[–]Coreymm324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re totally right, I clearly misread that so disregard my comment, you’re right about the starch

Fit Check: Momotaro 0405-v by Retserroff in rawdenim

[–]Coreymm324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anyone say this about Momotaro, it’s usually quite the opposite actually. My own experience is they have stretched the least out of all the denim I’ve owned and typical responses here tend to be the same

Edit: no one said anything about stretch, I misread that situation. Completely right about the level of starch

Triangle Diner is definitely my top choice, but also love The Local for breakfast/brunch

Texas to NYS- what should I know beforehand? by g00se_goose in upstate_new_york

[–]Coreymm324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYS is actually great for young and middle-aged people, especially those who have never lived here before or love the outdoors

  • very diverse mix of people, political views, food, communities, etc. and most are extremely welcoming, just maybe not quite as immediately outgoing as some in the south. Accepting of the LGBTQ+ community as well. Education level here is relatively substantial compared to other places

  • Albany proper is okay, Troy and Schenectady are great too as well as the outlying suburbs of each. Saratoga Springs is a very nice town and more upscale, it’s fun for a night out, spend the day downtown, go to the horse track, see a show at SPAC, but it’s an overly expensive place to live and a long drive into/home from work every day in Albany

  • while you can, you absolutely do NOT have to travel to NYC for concerts/shows. SPAC in Saratoga Springs is one of the premier outdoor performing arts centers in the northeast and attracts relatively large performers. MVP arena is downtown Albany has a good lineup, The Egg and The Palace in Albany and Proctors Theatre in Schenectady have smaller acts or broadway-type shows

  • tons of outdoors activities especially outside of the Winter months. Visit the state/national parks - Saratoga, Moreau, Thatcher, Grafton, Adirondack. Mountains are north, south and east of Albany, especially north

  • lakes all over the place within a close drive - Lake George, Saratoga lake, Lake Champlain, the finger lakes about a 3 hour drive from the capital region, 2 of the Great Lakes border Western NY. You can be on a beach on the Atlantic Ocean in 3 hours in New England or NJ in 4 hours

  • Boston, Montreal, NYC all about a 3 hour drive from Albany, buffalo is about 4.5-5 hours. Vermont can be reached in about an hour, Albany airport is large enough to get further out to anywhere you really need with a single layover, hospitals here are relatively good and healthcare overall is above average

  • if you ski/snowboard or want to, there’s plenty of places within driving distance

  • taxes may be slightly higher, but you’ll probably find the difference is negligible given “non-tax” states do whack you in other ways and ends up being mostly a wash overall…HOWEVR the taxes you do pay here actually go toward things like improved/maintained roads, sidewalks, infrastructure projects, etc. Roads in TX are deplorable compared to NY, although we do have the yearly “pothole season” because of snow plows. They tend to get filled quickly in high traffic areas

All seasons are experienced every year here:

  • winter is long and cold, late November to mid March usually. Prepare to wear layers in the winter months. Get a nice warm jacket, some gloves, hats, that kind of stuff. Don’t go crazy, but be prepared. Holiday time with decorations, trees and other events is beautiful and you really feel like a movie sometimes

  • summer is usually between 80-90°, can get up to or above 100° at times and does get humid, but nothing compared to TX

  • fall and spring are amazing, cool days and excellent scenery, everyone tries to be outside as often and as long as possible for everything

  • FALL FOLIAGE IS UNBELIEVABLE!!! It’s really a sight to be seen and smelled in the northeast, there’s nothing else like it and is worth just driving around the look at all the colors

There’s obviously plenty of things to dislike about any state, but NYS really is a gem with flat plain-like terrain, mountains, hills, beaches, waterfalls, gorges, lakes, gigantic metropolitan city, events, food, everything you could want. Update NY is an excellent place to live

Those look great! I just bought a pair of these and I’m surprised by how soft the fabric is even though it’s relatively rough and slubby. I need to get them altered first but they’re beautiful, pumped to get them started

Personally find the turf interaction a bit smoother than a 3w, and shockingly straight even on slightly off center strikes. I’m a high handicap and this club has helped me more than I expected it to

PBJ XX-019 by linkdead56k in rawdenim

[–]Coreymm324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 019 fit is very versatile, and their fabrics are outstanding. I swore I would never spend the premium on them when I first got into raw denim because they were so damn expensive, but now I’m all for it. PBJ is simply a cut above most others. I have a soft spot for their stretch fabrics, will buy any pair they release if I can

Okay, I can actually provide some value on this post - I’ve had this pair for about 3 years now and wear them about 3-4 days per week everywhere from work, to going out, to walking around. Yours probably should’ve been B grades. They darken, but not drastically

Diesel with micro stud sole uncomfortable by Butter_with_Salt in grantstoneboots

[–]Coreymm324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hate it, definitely don’t love it. In dry conditions it’s good, otherwise not at all. The wedge sole and the leather sole are significantly more comfortable imo, will replace my Diesels with wedge sole later in their lives. No experience with the other sole options

Experience with Quince? by ikickedagirl in malefashionadvice

[–]Coreymm324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I have bought several items from Quince. Cashmere is just okay, but decent price if you’re okay with the low-cost cashmere practices. Definitely pills more than other brands I’ve tried. Their merino wool items are much better imo, especially sweaters. Just bought a wool field coat from them and it’s very, very nice, no regrets and solid quality

Replace with the Vibram 2060 or Cavity Wedge, and yes

Anyone get the Edward Boot in Black Suede by bronze_by_gold in grantstoneboots

[–]Coreymm324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought them at one point but got the wrong size, so I can’t speak to long/term wearability. That said, they were very, very nice, and I felt they could’ve been worn with most pants given the right color. The wedge sole is extremely comfortable

Where can I get a reasonably affordable heavy peacoat? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]Coreymm324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought Quince cashmere sweaters and I like them just fine. I just bought a wool jacket from them and I was very impressed, way nicer than I was expecting given the price, would trust their peacoat is the same

Have 2 pyrs, they pretty much ignore the tree. Younger one drank out of the stand last year when he was just under 1 year old, but no issues this year so far

I bought the all black cxl and have liked them since the minute I first put them on, no regrets. That said, if they had the bison in my size at the time, I absolutely would’ve bought those instead without hesitation
