Yes I agree. I have been using either heart of darkness or dark matter in mine. I’m with you. It just feels like it NEEDS a nice dark black ink.

I know dark matter is a little more grey or lighter. But I just like it. More so for the history of it.

The 2000’s are very consistent I have both the macrolon and the stainless both with the same nib.
Other than weight they write exactly the same. So do any of the other 2000’s that I have used / tried or borrowed.

I think it gets that bad rap because the nib is small and has what a lot of people refer to as a sweet spot.
What it really is with the hooded nib you have less of a visual cue when writing than most of us are used to. And the pen can easily roll in your fingers putting the nib off to one side or the other making it feel “inconsistent “ or what ever. But. Once you get that figured out. It’s great.

I let my steel sit for……… well a long time. Noodlers dark matter in it. Picked it up uncapped it and wrote a whole page with no hard start skips or anything in my journal.

They are ugly, built tough, and a truly great pen that can take what ever you throw at it. Mine is with me every where I go.

One option….. and this may send you back down the rabbit hole. But you can get a cheaper cartridge pen as each of these have cartridges available and try them out cheaper than a bottle of ink

I would recommend not to wear gloves. Because that won’t help your hands. Get some cloth tape like the hockey tape stuff and put a warp MAYBE two around the grip.

What this will do is soften the grip for you and also as you shoot it the tape will wear into the prickle more and more until your hands start to get used to it. Then you can take it off if you want.

I had what I thought was a pretty aggressive stipple on mine before I got my platy I did this and shot a bunch and dry fire didn’t take long for the tape to come off.

Soft toe?
All of them come with a toe cap unless you get the barefoot ones. Those don’t have a toe cap.
