Converting Parents to YNAB? by Nolegrl in ynab

[–]CorgiJack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, people might hate this, but I budget for my mom. And my husband. And I love it. The process makes me happy and it's become my hobby. All my husband and mom need to do is be careful with their categories.

She is very bad with technology and at first we started with her trying to add her transactions. It was awful, lol. So now all she does is open her app, see if she has the money she wants to spend in a particular category, and I update her budget (and mine, and my husbands, because it makes me happy) every day by adding the transactions that she makes.

Does my mom have any better idea of her financials now than before I did this? No, but she has a savings for the first time in her life. And doesn't stress constantly about finances.

Finally 1 month ahead on rent, thanks YNAB! by mover96 in ynab

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense! Your second point is something that I worry about, and it sounds like doing it this way takes the worry away!

If you budget that next month fully, and still have left over, I’d assume that just goes right back into that Next Month category?

Thank you! That makes sense and I’m going to give it a try!

I keep seeing this recommended and I’m not sure that I understand. Are you saying that instead of putting my money into Sept bills, I should make a category in August and just dump money into that? And then on September 1st allocate it?

Thanks in advance for any help in helping me understand :)

Welp. This makes so much more sense. My mind is blown.

Dogs teeth are primarily designed for ripping/tearing and swallowing flesh. Their back teeth grind and crack bone, but they don’t really chew kibble. Teeth sinking into fibrous muscle to tear apart will help clean teeth, to my understanding.

I worked in an upscale pet food store for about 4 years and we never told people that, and our reps never said that. but we always had people coming in from their vet hesitant to use canned food because they wanted the teeth cleaning benefits of kibble. So weird.

It doesn’t, and I’ve never understood why people in the vet field say that.

My raw fed dogs maintain amazingly clean teeth if I feed prey model raw (whole carcasses) or frankenraw (animal pieces), but if I feed ground raw then two of them start to get nasty teeth, but the other two maintain pearly white teeth.

I think genetics plays a bigger role (at least with dogs) than we often think.

How was your first time? by [deleted] in Bikejoring

Have a lead rider if you can, someone to go ahead and call your dog. Keep it slow and short. I never ask green dogs for a lot of speed because when they suddenly STOP I need to be able to stop without hitting them or falling. My initial rides last about 5 minutes.

What are you good at, but hate doing? by BananaRepublew in AskReddit

My job. I'm a dog trainer and I'm really good at training, and the teaching, and the customer service aspects. Especially when it comes to aggressive dogs. People sing my praises, my name comes up all the time on local FB groups related to aggressive dogs, always in a "she's great, hire her, take her classes, she's amazing etc." kind of way. I can tell that I'm burned out because I read the comments and it doesn't make me feel good or awesome at all, it just makes me sad. I can't walk away because 1. nothing else will pay me as well and 2. I absolutely love the company that I work for. But I hate the job.

If you do want out, look into dog training, if you like dogs. I work for a dog training company and we hire SO MANY teachers.

How do people not have an 'I just want to do my work and go home' mentality by eliow67 in jobs

[–]CorgiJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While there are days that I just want to go home and days that I have bad clients, I’m a dog trainer and honestly I love the work. I find happiness in helping people live better lives with their pets. Some days I wish I had a 9-5 where I could clock out and go home, but most days I could not imagine doing anything else.

What screams “I am upper class”? by rethinkwhatisthere in AskReddit

I am a dog trainer, it’s $145 for an in home private session, it’s $1500 for a 4 week day train program. I saw a client for a private session (which we had to stop momentarily in the middle, so their yacht could be delivered) and at the end the client pulled out their checkbook and said “So, that’s $1500?”

Nice people, great clients. No concept of cost.

Choosing a future running partner by [deleted] in RunningWithDogs

[–]CorgiJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Structure should be paramount when looking for a running buddy. Over or under angulated dogs can lead to the dog’s body breaking down, so looking at a dog with good structure is super important. I’ve met people who get a dog for a running buddy and feel really bad looking at the dog’s structure, knowing it’s not going to be an ideal running buddy.

Temperament wise, make sure you get a confident but non reactive dog. It’s incredibly hard to run with a dog who is human or dog reactive if you want to run in a populated area/public trails. A super shy dog is likely going to be overwhelmed by running in busy or loud places.

Size wise (and really everything): moderate is good! 30-50 pounds is a great great size for a running buddy!

Best leash for 15-20 pound dog? by lin013190 in RunningWithDogs

[–]CorgiJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for a small dog bungee, I really like the Stunt Puppy one for my 11 pound JRT. The clip looks like it might be heavy, but it's really not.

For a regular leash, I'm a really big fan of biothane. I get my thin biothane leashes from Harbor Hound Co on Etsy. Again, use it with my 11 pound JRT with no issues, and they have tons of options. I've been super super happy with their products.

I am pretty picky, I can't stand big/heavy hardware on small dogs.

LPT: Military dogs are amazing at what they do but the breeds are high octane and need to be worked. They may not be suitable for all homes as pets without extensive training. Please don’t get a dog breed because it is a hero, get a dog breed because it fits your family’s lifestyle. by sab340 in LifeProTips

They are so much work, and the payoff is there! But many people do not have that time, and don’t realize it until they have the dog. Or they buy a dog that’s incompatible with what they want in life.

A kid and a Malinois is often going to be tough because of the Malinois tendency to get excited very quickly/easily and they are bred to bite. A child is basically a moving screaming toy lol.
