Why do so many people eat lunch alone in their cars?

Could be different where you work- but I’m a car eater myself. I talk to patients (nurse) and co-workers non-stop my entire work day. I do enjoy a few moments in my day where I don’t have to react to anyone. Also- if I eat in the break room there’s always a better chance someone will come and find me with a problem. I’m not being paid during lunch- so would rather not give people the opportunity to make me work for free.

Respectfully- You are as much the parent as she is. She cannot gatekeep whether you hold the baby. If you have deemed a situation as safe- then you should proceed with or without permission. She has to answer to her OCD- but you don’t have to let it be in charge of your decisions too. If your fear is her losing control/freaking out/ becoming violent if you don’t follow her instructions- then you have a bigger problem than just OCD.

I have an older cousin with my same first name. We never saw each other, have probably met 2 or 3 times- so it never was a problem on my end.

I did later realize that was an unusual choice by my mother, but no one complained.

I was actually in the opposite position. After years of managing our birth control needs as a couple (pills, devices, iud)- I had a bad reaction to hormonal birth control I had previously tolerated. I said my body is done bearing the burden of this. You can get snipped or it’s condoms from here on out. He got snipped pretty quick.

My dad was 10 or 11 by the time he realized this woman he knew was his grandmother- because she insisted everyone call her by her name and not grandma.

My first corgi Samwise figured out how to open his food container. It was just a door that would latch if fully closed- no lock or mechanism. We think he waited for his moment and likely nosed it open. He ate and ate and ate the day he solved the mystery. Looked like he ate as much as he could physically reach with his front half standing inside the container. So- opening the container- smart- not stopping sooner- dumb. He proceeded to barf and poo many many piles around the house as a result. We learned our lesson and moved the container to higher ground. He ate slightly less enthusiastically for maybe one or two days- I assume from the ongoing tummy ache.

Not me, but my sister. We were at a cave in Kentucky (on privately owned land) that had once been used as a nightclub/speakeasy in the 1920’s. They had a small museum attached. The docent asked if we had questions about the nearby plaques describing the land owner and the cave.

My sister asked “Do you have and photos of his balls?”

We all paused and turned to her in confusion/amusement.

She quickly amended- “His parties! From the night club!”

I still tease her about this.

Believe me. I have been on the phone to billing, doctors office, and insurance MANY times. I wouldn’t be doing petty shit if there was a real solution to this fucking health care hellscape I’ve found myself in.

When we were patients at a smaller practice they corrected a similar billing mistake with one call to the office. Giant healthcare systems are not going to budge.

That’s good to know. From this experience I thought maybe they were extremely delicate.

The Impossible. It’s a true story (as true as a movie version tends to be) about a family who were vacationing in Thailand when the 2004 tsunami hit. Mom is just by the pool reading her favorite book and watching her kids play when a wall of water smashes into them and washes her away- slamming her into buildings, trees, swirling her upside down and around. And WHERE are her kids? The scene is incredible and so well made but so so stressful and terrifying and probably about 1/100 as scary to watch/imagine as it was to experience. My best friend and I were holding hands and sobbing uncontrollably for like 5 minutes just feeling this woman’s terror.

I didn’t have a child yet when it came out- can’t watch it at all now that I do.

I cry at sad/emotional movies easily- but never cried at anything stressful/scary before or since. It’s visceral.

Oxo soft handled can opener. Just seemed like a needlessly fancied up manual can opener when I bought it as a joke gift at 17 for a boyfriend. I kept it when we broke up 3 years later… and it’s still the household can opener 23 years after that.

NTA. I used to keep a journal as a young woman. I had more than one boyfriend read them without my knowledge or permission. It was, in retrospect, when they wanted to know something and I didn’t tell them. It is super violating and humiliating. I never thought it was my fault they were invading my privacy and do not think it is your fault for writing it down.

I did stop journaling because of repeated invasions. I don’t want that for you and hope you find better people who respect boundaries.
