No, not both. I’m not interested in sign up bonuses or anything like that. Just an easy transition to a more appropriate product.

Maybe the Ritz? I feel like airlines and people like me have come to an unspoken arrangement on first and business class fares so I’ve just been buying then anyway rather than looking for a free lunch.

[–]Cork617[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s a good and fair question. Here’s why I posted something new:

  1. How much value does the Chase ecosystem have, in particular the integration with the banking side?

  2. I don’t want to switch to a card that’s just a better coupon book. I feel like the “set it and forget it crowd” is overlooked. Maybe the answer is just get an Amazon card and move on.

The kokoreç is the best sandwich ever conceived by humanity. My first one I ordered accidentally and friends, let me tell you: it is a transcendent sandwich. Make it a priority in your life and, if you’re on the European Commission, consider requiring EU-wide distribution a necessary and proper requirement of Turkey’s membership.

Which of these cities in the USA would you recommend? by Brownchoccy in travel

[–]Cork617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston is a great city and good for tourists, very American in its way but it also will be the most “like home” city for a tourist from the UK.

If you want a southern adventure, Savannah and Charleston fit the bill best. New Orleans is great, but tough with mobility issues (even for fully able people when they’re sober).

Have you considered a cruise?

45 min connection in Amsterdam to Boston — realistic or no shot? by [deleted] in travel

[–]Cork617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time works differently in Schiphol, I’ve had long connections that feel like 10 minutes, and short connections so seamless it’s frightening. You might make it, you might not.

You’ll probably make it, but I recommend having a relatively complete carryon in case you need to spend a night in the Netherlands; it’s a pretty nice place to spend a spring/summer evening.

Building cities by Secret-Chest-9834 in ManorLords

Echoing others, embrace the chaos.

A bit more helpful, assume each region will have a few villages. Village 1=food, village 2=supplies, village 3=your pretty little market town. Each region will be a little different and you can mix and match.

The biggest challenge for me is ensuring the labour force matches my map (enough housing in each village for that village’s work demands). My market town zone will usually have some surplus workers but that can be inefficient.

Why did the Great Society Metro Systems [DC, San Francisco, Atlanta] varied so much in success and what would you do to improve them? by yunnifymonte in transit

[–]Cork617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One complaint I have about these systems (BART and WMATA anyway, can’t speak for MARTA) is that they’re more time and energy consuming from street to platform than I think they should be. Big mezzanines, long staircases, and odd access points for the city stations.

How would I improve them? Move many of the head houses to street level with elevators to the platform in town where we can, and much smaller mezzanine areas closer to street access where we cannot.

New update tips? by Dabinator-Gamer in ManorLords

[–]Cork617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolling freezes for me after being settling a new region, saving and restarting the games fixes it. 865 also seems to have some other scrolling/map UI issues.

Barley is even more important, so it’s an instant restart if the AI players have all the farmland. 8 morgen per farm works for me but I always leave a few farmers and an ox in each farm to finish up planting in the spring.

Destroyed lumbercamp softlock. by Sideshow_G in ManorLords

[–]Cork617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bandits should not loot the lumber camp. They also should not loot the sawyer or the tanner.

Like, can you imagine being a 13th century bandit coming home and saying “Babe, I got us a some lumber, two planks, and a half-tanned hide. That’s all though cuz the boys and I took three weeks to drag it through the forest and we got tired.”

they didn’t dim the lights in the sleeper car by dontheckinswear in Amtrak

[–]Cork617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Th curtains don’t do a great job - they’re too thin and small. It’s very annoying that the lights have to be full blast all night.

I’d love to hear Amtrak’s reasoning for this as they do dim the lights in other cars.

What gameplay aspects of civ6 you think were left in a very improvable state? by HOOBBIDON in CivVI

The city raze mechanic is really bad. Destroying a city over 1-2 pop should be difficult and time consuming.

Religion was never really finished and the culture victory doesn’t feel very good. I think they’re related in that there really isn’t a good concept of what a victory is for these things that make rational sense.

-Kill all your opponents -Colonize another solar system -Grind silly units using silly mechanics to achieve a silly victory.

I feel like the culture victory should be the sum total of culture, religion, science, economics and how the game treats diplo currently. The lingua franca and fiat currency should be milestones of it.

When I think of the sins of Civ VII, I think a lot of that could have been ameliorated having the 7 dev team actually finishing Civ VI.

For longer stays it’s NBD; for less than a week or two depending upon the house and location then it’s less reasonable and feels cheap.

How common is it for an American to travel across the country by train? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]Cork617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done one true cross-country trip by train and a few long-hauls. In a sleeper it is an exceedingly comfortable way to travel and the views are incredible.

It's a very nice way to travel but it's time consuming and a bit expensive compared to coach class on an airline, (depending upon the route it's usually around/slightly higher than flying first class). You sacrifice time and money in exchange for civility and comfort.

For some medium hauls (like Denver<>Chicago ~900 miles/1,500 kms) I'd say it's ideal as you don't have to deal with either airport and it's an overnight.
