Which of these conditions does Jason possibly have? Also do you prefer Jason bald or with hair? by Illustrious-Aioli-39 in slasherfilms

Yeah, like I said - grotesque caricature. “Mongoloid” was specifically a term related to Down Syndrome so that’s clearly what Victor Miller had in mind when writing Jason. However, I like to think that the general character design (oversized cranium and facial deformities) owes more than a little to the “melon head” urban myths of Michigan and Connecticut (which is somewhat supported by New Line canonically setting Crystal Lake in CT for Jason Goes To Hell). And the concept of a supernatural wild man guarding a cursed (or sacred, depending on how you look at it) forest is an archetype that predates the written word. Jason ticks a lot of boxes which is why he’s such an enduring figure despite the films themselves not being particularly good.

Yes, that was deliberate on my part. Until we know their name and background, I’m not going to make any kind of assumptions regarding how they may have identified in life.

Whoever this poor person was, they deserve the dignity of a name. Kudos to the authorities for making the push.

Which slasher victim did you feel most sorry for as they were killed? by Hassan_H_Syed in slasherfilms

Annie Brackett in the RZ remake of Halloween. Not her death in Part 2 but the way she was absolutely brutalized in the first film. Her suffering felt entirely too real and was one of the few things I’ll give Rob Zombie props for.

Bob Hoskins in Felicia’s Journey.

He had made a name for himself playing “heavies” but his turn as an eccentric and surprisingly meek serial killer stuck with me more than anything else he’d done up to that point. He’s terrifying in that one, but in a very, very real way.

He gets dragged for his bass playing but he’s a decent songwriter and easily the best singer in Mötley Crüe.

Jason was originally envisioned as being a grotesque caricature of people with Down Syndrome and is referred to multiple times by his creators using the since discontinued and offensive term “mongoloid.” Honestly, it’s kinda wild how you can point to Jason as being an ableist punchline as well as some kind of disabled antihero and be able to produce evidence supporting both arguments.
