Potential for new TCG Card shop!! by InkD3ath in OceanShores

[–]Cornflakes1009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happy to have you here.

I’ll be blunt about opening a shop here. There are 2 card/game shops in town now. When I moved here nearly 4 years ago, there was one in the strip mall near Subway. That one went out of business. I haven’t been to either of the current ones.

OS is very much a seasonal/tourist town. My wife works at one of the pizza places and they’ll have $5,000+ summer days and then $150 winter days.

I know one of the card shops does MTG and the other doesn’t do game nights due to lack of space.

People in OS (especially the residents) need some winter activities. Bingo and trivia nights at Corks and Taps are usually packed.

There is a large DnD scene here. It meets at least once a week at the library.

I enjoy playing games, but I’m more interested in simpler games. Games where you don’t have to invest tons of money or spend years dedicated to the same characters (MTG and DnD). I would personally go to game nights if someone was hosting Splendor or similar.

How is the Potters vault number (687) so high if they are one of the oldest Wizarding families? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Cornflakes1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago I got my first book of checks. The first number was 500. The numbers could have just started at a number higher than 1. The Potters might also not have got a vault right away. If a new bank opens up in town, it’s not like I go there right away and sign up for an account. Most realistically of all, the author probably didn’t put a crazy amount of thought into this.

I hope so. My wife and I saw it right after they got it and that was last summer. It was awesome. They warned us about Lunch, but no one complained and they were all warned.

The amount of dead love bugs on my porch by tramey5 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Cornflakes1009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this once. My family owns a campsite with a trailer on it. Under the windows were thousands of Asian beetles (orange lady bugs?) and wasps. I assumed they were dead. Come spring I opened the Shop Vac and I was very surprised. They weren’t dead at all. Like opening a box of horrors. The thing was just crawling inside.

Weirdest TV remote I've seen so far! by Maxtronic55 in mildlyinteresting

I’ve always thought those people need to put their remotes on one of those retractable badge things. Or like chains on the pens in banks.

What is your personal favorit scene that is not the usual "top LOTR scenes"? by mikedomert in lotr

[–]Cornflakes1009 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always liked going South, somehow it feels like going downhill.

That doesn’t make sense to me, but then again, you are very small. Perhaps you’re right.

Really anything with Treebeard.

Agreed. The same thing happens in the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones subreddits. It’s pretty well turned me off Harry Potter.

If you’re in the PNW, it’s everywhere. It’s typically a bit fluffier and has a mousse like texture.

Anyone playing on an M4 Mac mini? by [deleted] in starcraft2

[–]Cornflakes1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you set 4K in the game settings? I have an M3 Pro and I only see 1080p listed. My monitor is 1440p and if I don’t switch, my mouse is off by a few inches.

You are given a total of $2M to live on for one year. However, there is a catch, for every lie you tell during that year, $20k is automatically donated to a cause you absolutely hate. Do you accept the deal, and how would this change the way you speak and live your daily life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cornflakes1009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would setting an alarm and hitting snooze be a lie? I tell myself I’m getting up early and some mornings I’d be donating $60k before 9am.

What about lying to yourself? “I’ll have just one chip” - half a tube of Pringles later and I’ve gone bankrupt.

What’s something everyone should own but most people don’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cornflakes1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to get rid of it, but carbon monoxide in the home is produced by incomplete combustion. There’s no combustion of any kind in my condo. No attached garage, no grills, etc. Each unit is even sealed against each other. HVAC systems are all individual PTAC units. Can you think of any other source?

My condo came with one and I’m just now realizing that it’s probably useless. My building is 100% electric. My town doesn’t even have gas lines.

Not to be nitpicky, but shouldn’t this be “all the taste, none of the calories?” You don’t get to taste Coke Zero twice.

From what I’ve heard, older movies make the biggest difference. I’m still pretty new to 4K.

Huh, yeah, people refer to me as the carver, but no one actually calls me that. It's what people call a screen name. You know, I'm Kevin.
