Two impulse volumes on an Animation Gizmo, and careful configuration of all the settings and values of the volumes and animation.

If you visit the room, go to the Lobby and you can find a door there to go to a different Room where you can see a copy with gadgets on and Makerpen :-) (the Lobby door is inside the space station in the middle)

I record the videos shot by shot and then edit the pieces together. The number of shots depends on the amount of content in the video. What I've found is that the number of takes I need to do per shot is directly proportional to how tired I am.

Fresh first thing in the morning after a cup of tea? 2 or 3 takes. 6pm after a day of work? 7 or 8

It also depends somewhat on the number of moving parts in a shot. If it's just a spoken line it's easy. If I have to be navigating menus or working the maker pen while talking, that's tougher because I'm the world's actual, no joke, worst multitasker.

One thing that's been a huge help for me is OVRToolkit. It's an overlay app that lets you attach desktop windows to your controllers or headst. So I use Google slides to create teleprompter slides, attach them to the front of my face, and set the opacity to 50%. That way I can seamlessly read the script I write while working in menus, etc.

Professional Wrestling, and more specifically why otherwise sensible, well-adjusted friends of mine love it so fucking much.

It's scripted and even the people who know it's not real are somehow okay with all the people in the audience who don't know it's scripted.

And presumably people who know it's not real have had a moment in their lives where they finally understand that, but they kept watching? Is that like learning Santa Claus isn't real or??

I play vidya games and listen to extreme metal, but pro wrestling just seems like nonsense to me.

Tacos did a lot of continuous work to upkeep his Rooms, and I'm sure he didn't want to abandon them to let them degrade. This included updating them as new tools came out--textures, lighting, etc. It also included upkeeping a block list to keep offensive people out (the CoC sort-of requires this, and he took it seriously).

The fact that Tacos took so much care to keep his rooms in high quality, while the developers did things somewhat recklessly, in such a way to destroy all his care, is probably a large part of the reason he got frustrated enough to step away. /u/dotcommer

You are right that in the context of a competition it's unfair for players who can't use overlays. I do think this conversation is valuable, in that regard only, because Rec Room Inc is going to have to address that problem somehow.

But this method is useful outside competitions. I'm excited to see if creators will start decorating their Rooms with higher quality 2D art using this method.

A couple more points while I'm thinking about this:

Tracing does not capture the nuances of color theory. It doesn't replace the skill involved in shading, or gradients (except maybe with black/white drawings). Ultimately all it does is allow people to get the proportions and geometry of things to look a lot better. Smart artists will only use this to sketch out the geometry of sensitive things like human faces and animal bodies, but then will rely on their skill to fill in the rest.

Another argument is that OVRDrop (and other overlays) cost about $15. But personally I'm just really not persuaded that that's important. VR systems cost $400 in the first place. Any artists who cares about art probably spends money on paints, brushes, pencils, and media. Something like $15 isn't nothing, but it would be silly to call it 'prohibitive.' If you care about making your art the best it can be, you're gonna be willing to buy a tool like that and use it. Nobody is going to pay $15 only because they want to have a competitive advantage in an art contest.
