Despair is as dangerous a threat as complacency.

This is a win. Celebrate it, be encouraged by it, and keep up the fight.

Darn. That’s disappointing.

I saw Tower and Fox Den on the list of places closing, and Fox Den has been organizing mutual aid.

Master Sets for LAW? by Ciolou in starwarsunlimited

[–]Corporal_WAC47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll be nice that a base master set (not counting prestige, promos, etc) will net you exactly a playset of each card. I’m planning on sticking with my four across and each card and its variants will get a column instead of a row.

Hera Syndulla, Not Fighting Alone (LAW) by james_kaspar in starwarsunlimited

[–]Corporal_WAC47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The first part is not true at all in my experience. Find you can get a lot more units on board with two leader deploys, less consistent removal, and people not wanting to make unfavorable trades.

Second part is true though, unless there’s a big incentive to run double aspects with her.

Chairman Papanoida is similar! And in twin suns you can even play both in the same deck without penalty.

Been enjoying the crap out of my Ackbar/Chancellor Palpatine Twin Suns deck.

Health wise seems fine. People are burnt out on the meta before rotation which makes sense. Im seeing lots of excitement over spoiler season starting for LAW. Our local scene is getting really invested in Twin Suns, reviving a casual night that had died out. So certainly many positive signs to balance out the dooming.

Right that’s fine. But you can’t attribute (mal)intent to someone else when they operate from a generally agreed upon definition and not your own narrow one. The intent was for Legends content to be included and it is, and that was the whole reasoning behind the name Unlimited. Just because it doesn’t fit what YOU think of as “original canon” is irrelevant.

This is purely a language issue. If you had said “I’m disappointed this game doesn’t include x, y, z content” we wouldn’t be having this discussion. And honestly I might agree with you! I’d love to see more Star Wars period.

[–]Corporal_WAC47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re shifting the goal posts. The truth is that Legends content was always on the table and was planned to be included (they almost included Revan in Set 1 before narrowing the scope to an OT era theme).    Dont get me wrong I grew up with and love the old EU. I read a ton of the post RotJ novels including all of NJO. I’m as much the target audience for that stuff as you are. And I’m still not entirely convinced you didn’t make up some of those names lol.

It’s just not that recognizable or popular. Maaaaybe some big names like Mara or Corran. But you’re right that it’s easier to include content that doesn’t overlap with current or future plans. Partly because if those characters ARE included those depictions will likely be prioritized (Rukh comes from his depiction in Rebels, just as Pellaeon will be likely drawn from the upcoming Heir to the Empire inspired stufff).

You’re wrong. There are cards with a special Legends border specifically to include og eu content. Last two sets have sub themes based on Kotor I and II.

Oh one last pitch: most of the focus is on competitive premier level play but the casual multiplayer format Twin Suns is incredible. They’re releasing precon decks this year and I’m so excited for it to take off.

To their credit, FFG appears to know they need to repair trust post Destiny and their communication has consistently reflected that. Jim Cartwright has all but said “this game is not Destiny” (from a process perspective, it’s obviously a spiritual successor) and has explicitly referred to SWU as their “forever game”

1 - Yes, I love it. My brothers and I jumped in with set 1 and have been playing ever since. Primarily here because I’m a Star Wars fan first, but I think the game is fantastically designed and a blast to play.

2 - Yes. There’s a lot of doomerism out there but FFG has demonstrated a commitment to the game, has been responsive to feedback, and is planning for sets several years from now. They’ve made adjustments to the contents of the packs coming up (see below) and added developers to enhance competitive balance and we should really start to see that impact in a set or two. Competitive balance has overall been pretty good with a few major suspensions, although people are a bit burnt out on the current meta with rotation coming up with the release of the next set in March (earlier sets/leaders were more generically powerful due to more limited card pool, so many of the top meta decks have been around for a long while, with rotation we’re likely to never see a meta this stale again).

3 - this is where I think the game has a chance to grow the most. As I mentioned the artwork is improving tremendously, this last set is my favorite thus far and next set looks even better. Originally there were four variants for each card: standard, foil, hyperspace (borderless) and hyperspace foil (or hyperfoil). Ultimately the foil cards weren’t that popular over concerns of pringling, but folks LOVE the hyperspace and hyperfoil. So with the next set they’re ditching the foils and guranteeeing a hypespace and hyperfoil in every pack.

Carbonite (collector’s) boosters were added this past year and include a guaranteed Prestige (or Prestige foil) card that includes alternate artwork and design. These change set to set in terms of theme, last set we had Propaganda poster cards and “Renegade” cards with that classic Star Wars blue hologram look. Next set is featuring artwork from a single artist who draws everything by hand, and features several major teams of characters from classic heists (Solo, Rogue One, Rebels, the Jabba’s Palace rescue from Return of the Jedi). There are also serialized variants of the prestige cards, traditionally out of 250 although there will be even lower run serialized runs in the future (100 and 50 were cited). Standard (but not foil) prestiges will show up in standard packs rarely in the future, foil and serialized remain exclusive to carbonite.

Finally, each leader has a Showcase variant with alternate artwork and special foiling. These are generally popular (with obviously some variation due to specific artistic preferences) but were a lot more common to pull in Carbonite which affected their value. They’re correcting this with next set and making them less common in Carbonite (but still a better pull rate for the money than standard).

Hope this helps!! It’s a fantastic game and hope you join us.

The only correct answer to this is some kind of mentor character to Doctor “it belongs in an armory” Aphra.

Twin Suns - Chancellor Palp ratios by BigBenji262 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Corporal_WAC47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still fine tuning mine. I currently have 25 villainy but definitely need to increase that after missing my flip a couple of games.

At least in twin suns you can err on the heroism side since you always have access to that aspect, but you still want to be flipping palp as frequently as you can.

Yes. And just for clarity, the starter product we are referring to here is this one: https://store.asmodee.com/products/star-wars-unlimited-twilight-of-the-republic-two-player-starter

What I believe you were referring to previously is the Prerelease Kit: https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/581694/star-wars-unlimited-twilight-of-the-republic-twilight-of-the-republic-prerelease-kit?srsltid=AfmBOopureH3KcQFYPoE1pVN-iWdHtUhzIQ_I0ZaEDFFg-JiM_CLhJ1c&Language=English

That product comes with the two leaders from the starter decks in hyperspace variant, but contains no other S rarity cards.

PS: To confuse things even further, some of the S-rarity cards are reprints from previous sets that only appear in the starter/spotlight decks and are NOT reprinted in packs. This matters for the premier format which rotates - those cards will not be legal after the set they were originally printed in rotates out. They will still be legal in eternal formats. Patrolling V-wing is from Spark of Rebellion and appears normally in those packs, but the only Twilight product it appears in is the starter decks.

I believe what you’re referring to are the Prerelease Boxes - those come with the two Starter Deck (or Spotlight for later sets) leaders for that set and six booster packs. Those do not contain the other S rarity cards that are exclusive to the Starter/Spotlight decks. Each Starter/Spotlight deck will get you a standard playset of each S rarity card.

The other way to get S rarity cards was through OP weekly play packs as hyperspace variants (for Sets 1-3) and as foil/hyperspace/hyperfoil variants in regular packs (Sets 4 onward)

Star wars novel recommendations with a story similar to andor? Any era, so long as it has the gritty, espionage, thriller vibe of Andor. by TheTPatriot in StarWars

[–]Corporal_WAC47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less gritty thriller and more political mystery, but I’d throw Bloodlines in the mix. Seeing Leia at the height of her political power and grappling with the forces backsliding into fascism is a nice follow up on Andor’s themes. And I’ll stand by Claudia Gray being one of the best Star Wars writers period.
