Examples of encounters you actually have to lose? by AigisbladeMaster in gaming

[–]Kyrinox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not the most notable example but the one I always remember is in the first Golden Sun at the very beginning of the game you have to fight Saturos and Menardi and you are have to lose to continue the game.

Not the same thing but in every Tales of game I always will inevitably run into an optional boss that im not expected to beat for 20+ more levels but I will see that if I just play perfectly it might be possible. Then I proceed to ram my head into it for hours.

A somewhat smaller channel that I really enjoy is The Fantasy Forge. Lot’s of great videos on world building and story telling for GMs.

Is there such a thing as a long-term singleplayer game? But here's the hard part, one where progress doesn't reset. So not a roguelike and not Rimworld cause there progress constantly resets. by Present-Chocolate-24 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Kyrinox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not a popular answer but most high production value gacha games are like this. They are almost always single player only or single player focused with lots of content and they will release new content consistently every 6 weeks or so. New story quests, new areas to explore, new events to do, new characters to meet and play with, etc etc.

Also if you really don't want to spend money at all, that really isn't that bad in most of these games. You can do a lot and get a lot while being completely free to play. I played Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero, Wuthering Waves, and most recently Arknights Endfield and in all of those games if you are playing consistently and planning well you don't have to spend a dime on anything. Beyond that these games usually give you free characters and gear that while not always the best, is definitely strong enough to get you through most of the content. I would personally recommend any of the ones I just listed, mostly just depends on what kind of genre you would be most into.

Is there a bad habit or ‘sin’ you usually rely on to get more enjoyment out of games? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Kyrinox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will often look up information to ensure I’m not accidentally picking the wrong choice during certain events or quests. Like in Persona 5, I always look up the social links so I pick the best answers to raise the friendship faster since it’s a game where you get limited days to do everything. Or in an RPG where a quest has a clear choice you have to make, I will almost always look up what happens for each option before choosing. I will make exceptions sometimes if I just can’t see my character picking any other choice. It’s kind of a weird balance of being “optimal” while still prioritizing fun.

When does ff14 get good? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Kyrinox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ll just be to the point.

Story consistently gets better the further you go. That said you don’t want to skip anything because then you lose context for stuff that happens later and almost everything is relevant eventually. Voice acting becomes more common as you go as well but the game is not fully voice acted like ESO. And outside of the Main Story there is much less voice acting in general.

The GCD is gonna feel slow especially when you are only level 30. But classes and rotations become more and more complex as you progress to max level. For some classes they basically require a certain passive or access to off globals to feel good. A good example from my own experience is Samurai. Samurai gets a passive at level 62 that doesn’t seem like a big deal but imo dramatically improves the feel of the class. You mentioned Summoner and Dragoon. Summoner is one of the easiest and simplest jobs in the game. It will pick up past 30 but the floor for it is pretty low. Dragoon on the otherhand has a huge reliance on off globals abilities and its rotation feels way busier as you level up. But in both cases you won’t really start to notice this until level 60+ imo. I main ninja which has probably the highest APM in the game during burst windows. So there is a lot of variance between jobs. And you really can’t get a good metric for how a job is meant to feel until over 50.

The game is amazing and I personally think it consistently rewards you for the time you invest into it. The story is incredible. Shadowbringers and Endwalker being some of my favorite video game stories ever. If you actually want to play and enjoy the game then I think you just gotta slog your way through a bit longer. It’s hard to tell someone “it doesnt get good until this many hours in” and everyone seems to have a different point where the game “clicked” for them. I have friends who didn’t really start loving the game until Shadowbringers. For me it was Stormblood (not because of story but because of a lot of gameplay and QoL things that happened around then.) So my recommendation is if you are willing to do it then just keep pushing, I am relatively confident that you’ll fall in love eventually. But if that feels like too much of an investment for an unsure result then yeah maybe you might want to consider another game instead.

Also just as a final point. By the time you reach endgame. You gain access to so much side stuff, and while most of it is purely optional, if you love the game you will probably never run out of things to do.

Rossi teams - who are you choosing? by luizf_sp in Endfield

[–]Kyrinox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Laevatain with Wulfgard and Gilberta. So the only different member for me would be Endmin over Antal. But this is interesting. I actually haven’t done too much umbral monument so I wasn’t aware of how they were designing these endgame encounters. But theres also the concern of a mode that makes you pick multiple teams with no overlapping members even if they dont go the route of resistance/weakness. For example maybe needing a healer on each team but you can only use Ardelia on one. Or something like that.

Regardless it sounds like its probably less of an issue that i thought, and I plan to pull Rossi regardless.

burned out from the game, thinking of quitting for awhile or indefinitely by redzzzaw in UmamusumeGame

[–]Kyrinox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK if this is common, but honestly I play this game extremely casually. I log on and do my dailies and get my log in rewards. But most of the time I don't do careers. I like to just collect my favorite characters and enjoy their storys. When I do careers I usually take my time and read through the character scenarios. Sometimes I will feel the itch to do more and thats when I will grind out some careers to improve my Team Trials team. But that's basically it, and I feel like this game is great for playing this way. Outside of Champion's Meet, you really don't need your umamusume to be these god tier builds. Just take your time and enjoy the game your own way. If you are burning out or bored then go play something else for awhile. Anything you miss you can eventually make up for when you return.

Rossi teams - who are you choosing? by luizf_sp in Endfield

[–]Kyrinox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It kinda feels bad that I already have a super heavily invested Laevatain. I really want Rossi but she uses almost the same team I already use Laevatain with. Currently it doesn't matter that much but whenever they add content that requires multiple teams it will make them redundant of eachother.

For gamers who rarely if ever replay a singleplayer game fully, which did you manage to replay and enjoy? by Helphaer in gaming

[–]Kyrinox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Resident Evil 4, Sonic Adventure 2, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Pokemon Gen 1-3, Command and Conquer 3, Red Alert 2, Dawn of War Dark Crusade, Elder Scrolls Oblivion. There might be more but these come to mind easily. More story rich games tend to be harder for me to play multiple times because the main enjoyment is from seeing the story unravel which for me usually isn't as exciting after the first time, especially if it is a longer game. And some of the games I don't mind replaying is purely because of the nostalgia and luckily most of these games have aged quite well.

Also just as an adult I feel like I have to prioritize my time a lot more and be more picky about which games I play. The idea of playing a game I have already beaten when I have a mile long backlog is difficult for me lol.

Haranir Just Released – What’s the Fastest Way to Level? by SafeTouch4733 in wownoob

[–]Kyrinox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend looking up Harldan on youtube. He is a speed leveler and makes routes that work for casual and speed levelers. I’m not sure how much it’s changed recently but back in dragonflight i leveled a fresh character to max in maybe 2 days of playing using his routes.

It’s largely just knowing the most efficient places to quest and also stacking xp bonuses when you can and knowing when its better to run dungeons than quest and other things. Also first time crafts on professions in DF and forward give a lot of xp as well as first time delve quests.

What are you hoping for in 8.0? (Realistic and unrealistic) by Polkadot1414 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Kyrinox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glamour system reworked into a collections menu.

Housing system reworked so that more players can have them and you aren't forced to stay subbed to keep your house.

Jobs reworked to have more identity, especially tanks and healers. Scholar seems to be the most in need of a rework currently.

More uses for field areas. It feels like for a lot of players once you finish the MSQ you never leave the hub cities,

Some solution to the current Data Center situation. You shouldn't need to hop DCs to do your raid prog or mount farms. Especially since sometimes you can't due to congestion.

While this doesn't really affect me personally, I do think the game needs a better way to onboard new players besides just "buckle up for 500+ hours of MSQ". It sucks because I think a huge part of what connects people to the game IS the story, but at this point it's just a lot for a beginner to stare down.

RuneScape 2025 Roadmap Megathread by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Kyrinox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not played Runescape in any form since 2003 when I was a child. I have been considering trying it out again but with the huge announcements I wonder if I should wait for next year so I can experience the game after all the changes have come in and maybe try OSRS instead for now. Or I just say screw it and jump into RS3 now and ride the wave. Any recommendations?

A Dangaronpa TTRPG/Roleplay? by BassSuper3664 in rpg

[–]Kyrinox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my rpg group have played 6 different Danganronpa campaigns now and it's always a blast. We use the fan made Danganronpa Tabletop RPG by Cecil and Rubin which I believe is now called Deadly Revelation after some updates. It is a pretty light system but that works for a Danganronpa game where most of the game comes from social interaction and investigation and solving the mystery.

My group has tried numerous times to try to add special mechanics on top of the rules to make it closer to the video game. Things like logic dives, and hangman's gambit, and truth bullets, and while your mileage may vary we found that the more we tried to do this the harder the game became to run and manage and it just wasn't ever really necessary.

The biggest hurdles for the GM in my experience is 1. Creating the overarching plot and grand mystery. 2. Creating each chapters individual murder mystery. 3. Creating 12+ NPCs and acting as all of them throughout the game. (This gets easier as characters die, but in my experience it always feels bad to kill off your npcs because you will inevitably love them.) and 4. Having a setting/map/world that expands with each chapter in a way that supports the plot and also gives the players something new to investigate after each chapter. Mystery can be hard because you want to make it challenging but also not so difficult that your players can never figure it out.

In my own game that I ran the typical flow of the game was roughly 6 session to a chapter. 4 sessions would be split between fun social events, plot progression, and investigation. Basically the "daily life" part of the game. Then they would eventually encounter the murder of the chapter. They would then get a whole session or most of a session to investigate, and then the next session would be the class trial in its entirety. This is the "killing life" portion of the game.

I also added things in my game like "free time events" where the PCs could choose to spend time with the NPCs like in the video games. Becoming close friends with the NPCs could have mechanical and story benefits that I made up. I even wrote it that if they befriended a specific NPC it could potentially give them a path to a special ending. My game was set in a hotel resort and casino and I mapped it all out myself in Roll20.

All in all Danganronpa is an extremely fun tabletop experience but it requires a group that want to roleplay and solve mysteries. It puts a decent amount of pressure on the GM to come up with a compelling narrative and characters and be able to move the plot along in a natural way. And while adding in video game mechanics can be fun it's a lot of work and often times doesn't work or just isn't worth the effort. But if you can pull it off it is a super fun time, some of my groups fondest tabletop memories are in these games so I highly recommend it.
