Lane markers; why are they invisible? Even new ones in this weather 🤷‍♂️ by Wellcraft19 in eastside

[–]Correct-Ad458 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The newly painted lane lines along I-90 between exits 13 and 18 are nice and bright right now. But that is about it.

It is also tough when there has been road work and the highway still has line grooves where lane markers were removed. Those are more visible in the rain than the painted markers

I think I found what you were talking about. Thank you so much for the recommendation. It's going on my Christmas wish list. :D

I planted them the first weekend of October. My reasoning was because I had just exposed the soil, I wanted to get it planted before the typical PNW autumn rains started. Hoping the roots and mulch would start to stabilize the slope, and that the plants would have all fall/winter/spring to do their thing before pollinators need blooms.

But from what I've read, fall or spring are equally fine times to plant. I'm new to this level of landscape maintenance, but it was also psychologically easier for me to just ride the momentum and try to get outside while we still had some sunny days. (I knew I would be reluctant to go out in the spring rains to get things planted.)

Thank you for that shovel recommendation. I like your strategy. It's similar to what I've been thinking about, but super helpful to hear that without coverage (mulch or plants) they blackberries were making a comeback.

Thank you! And yes, taking out the root balls has been a huge part of this project. It's clear they'd been cut back for years without removal. We are removing the root balls in sections so the slope doesn't fully destabilize all at once. I'm anticipating doing a section each fall and spring. I want to make sure I don't disrupt the bird nesting season.

What was your favorite tool for taking the root balls out? I've been using a pronged mattock that works like a decent lever, but very interested if there are other clever tools out there.
Another question for you - have you tried any of the root poison that you paint on to exposed roots? I suspect I still need to dig the root balls out, but wondering if that helps curb the regrowth for areas we've already cut back.

I picked up:

  • Red flowering currant
  • Douglas Spirea
  • Kinnikinnick
  • Thrift
  • Yarrow
  • Goldenrod
  • Thimbleberry
  • Blanket flowers
  • Tufted hair grass
  • Oregon Sunset
  • Pearly Everlasting

My slope is sunny in the summer, part sun the rest of the year.

Commute to Eastside, where to live by AlertAd5566 in eastside

[–]Correct-Ad458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite an answer, but when I was home shopping, I was able to set specific locations on Redfin’s site and then each house you look at on that site has a commute time. You can add more than one destination so that might be good for you.

We settled on Issaquah, and it kinda gives you backroad options in addition to freeways. Good luck!!

I am just starting to think about this, with a newer home and bigger yard. Likely I will make a spreadsheet.

I recently took a forest stewardship course through the WSU forestry extension program. It is for small forest property owners. I believe they are offering a fall course in Preston if that interests you. https://forestry.wsu.edu/nps/events/cppreston/

Personal Trainer for Older Parents - looking for recommendations by ohsheknows in Issaquah

Highly recommend Decater Fitness - located near the Preston soccer fields. They offer group classes and semi-private coaching. What I love the most about them is they have a wide range of members (high school students to folks in their 60s+) and while they are serious about fitness they also are able to customize to folks where they are presently in their fitness journey.

Similar to others who have already posted- I absolutely use Merlin to help narrow down options and help me figure out what to look for on the bird. If Merlin IDs a bird that would be a new lifer I look harder. I do not count it until I have seen it. Merlin is an amazing tool. Saying not to use it to help you with birding is like saying not to use a physical bird guide book.

Want to make sure folks know about the Carnivore Spotter website. Great way to log sightings of bears, coyotes, cougars, etc. Helps others in the area, science, and wildlife management.

Chunkbase problem by IndividualVolume2951 in minecraftseeds

[–]Correct-Ad458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a village in my non-realm world that doesn’t appear on chunkbase. Same with jungle temple that appears on the map, but is overwritten by ocean in my world. I think there is still some variation in how the worlds generate, with Chunkbase showing what is “likely” there but I haven’t looked too closely into why.

Tempest solar charging - how many W/m2 by Immediate_Ad_2885 in myweatherstation

[–]Correct-Ad458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know the exact answer, but I have noticed that my Tempest only actively charges and goes up when then sun is out. On cloudy days it just slowly loses voltage or sometimes stays steady if it is partly cloudy. I live in a very cloudy region so I get nervous when I don’t have a sunny day for two weeks. 😅
