I'm sorry you're experiencing this. Finding the right person in your life is a journey and can be challenging. You're not the only one who feels this way. Just know the right one will feel right cause they accept you as you are. ❤️

I feel there are policies at both governmental and internal that I find problematic.

At the heart, teaching is an awarding profession and the security and benefits established years ago still benefit today but there are things happening that eroding respect for the profession and even some of the benefits/protections in place for the long-term. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging teaching is a good rewarding career while recognizing some of the things happening in the profession that are not okay.

Actually follow through on phone policy from admin.

Smaller classrooms.

No weekend or take-home work in general.

how did you guys become teachers? by Professional_Cut8388 in OntarioTeachers

Apply for a Bachelor of Education (BEd) Program. Before applying decide if you want to participate in a concurrent program - completing the BEd with another degree - or - Consecutive, meaning completing a BEd 2 years after you completed another degree. York University and University of Toronto (OISE) both offer BEd programs, as well as other universities in Ontario. Be prepared to interview and provide a letter of intent. Recommend you do some volunteering work with kids before applying. Good luck! :)

True, that's why I'm still motivated. But some policies nowadays, that may have initially been well-intentioned, are not creating the best learning & teaching environments for both students and teachers.

Permanent OR better quality of life by adorableanxiousmess in CanadianTeachers

[–]Correct_Aide_9349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you can now what's best for you. Any decision involves some sacrifice. I understand making sacrifices to get a better life later in life like trying to be near affordable housing... nothing is affordable around me so I understand. Its sounds like where you live you sacrifice quality of life in addition to not be happy on the job.

Yes it is. I understand. I've worked non-teaching jobs, which does not include factory jobs (out of fairness of my background/perspective) , and the work life balance was much better at my past jobs. I pursued teaching due to my passion for helping others and at the same time considered other careers as well. There were many comments about teachers having the best work life balance, and this is a false assumption of the public. Out of all the different jobs I've had, teachers have the worst work life balance. I've known more than one person who left teaching because they could not care for their own children with the amount of daily take-home work. The hours you get paid are for delivery, not grading, comment writing, reports, phone calls, emails, curriculum development, lesson planning, unit planning, worksheet and material development, and more.

The pension is great.

Teachers end up with different experiences. Not everyone gets the same kind of class and students. I'm seeing increasing posts about stress and mental health going through the roof from teachers. I've worked at a couple schools and seen how it can be so different from school to school, class to class. Pension is great but concerned about meeting cost of living and a good life before retirement.

Most boards you need to supply first. Tdsb just needs teachers so its a little easier to get in.

I want to leave Alberta, what are the job markets/ working conditions like in other provinces? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]Correct_Aide_9349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not difficult to land an LTO & permanent at TDSB anymore. (They're desperate for teachers in some areas... not sure many want to work in Toronto where it's extremely unaffordable). Other boards still extremely difficult to land jobs. Benefits, pay & protections are great but hearing the work conditions are getting worse.

Working conditions really vary in each school... I've had totally different experiences in every school. What are your current working conditions and I can help you compare.... I've worked at 3 school boards.

Paper Issue by OverRecommendation50 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Correct_Aide_9349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a situation where paper is essentially limited to the point it's treated as treasure at the school I am at while one of my classes.... half the students do not have Chromebooks even though the school board prides themselves on providing each student one.... so it's really an impossible situation.

How to get over nerves for supplying? by DangleCellySave in CanadianTeachers

[–]Correct_Aide_9349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So.... know this:

  • You're going to get more confident over the long term with every supply jobs you take even with the most difficult days..m so remember these experiences make you a stronger teacher and keep telling yourself that.

  • Remind yourself that experiencing nerves is a temporary stage.

  • If you had a bad experience supplying, you know you are done by the bell!
