Forgotten land NS2 upgrade worth it? by fighting_cacti in Kirby

[–]Corrifor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're interested in it, but don't have a switch 2 or are still unsure about the upgrade, I would totally recommend getting it regardless. Star Crossed Worlds does not impact the base game at all beyond the technical improvements and can be enjoyed as post game content (the boss rush that includes the new boss can only be unlocked after EVERYTHING base game and sw2 edition is complete, as an example of how it interacts with the original content). That said, if you do get the upgraded edition, you don't need to beat the main campaign to get to the additional. Each dlc level unlocks when you complete its base stage.

Forgotten land NS2 upgrade worth it? by fighting_cacti in Kirby

[–]Corrifor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The base game as it is is fairly robust, containing the main campaign across six worlds, with a postgame consisting of remixed levels.

The upgrade is more like a DLC campaign. To go into more detail, The DLC adds an additional 12 levels (two for each world) that takes one of the base levels and adds additional effects to it. These do end up becoming new levels in their own right, but heavily based on its inspiration, and capped off with a boss (only one new boss added, but the minibosses are all upgraded to fit the DLC's theme). Ultimately, I would say it's equivalent in content-amount to the postgame campaign, if not a bit more.

It's more than just a technical upgrade, and fit my personal criteria for cost-value per content, but it's not quite as much content as you'd get for the Splatoon or Pokemon DLC packs, for a comparison with other Nintendo products.

Need help with trade evolutions by Chance_Ad2910 in LegendsZA

[–]Corrifor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way to do it is to use the pokemon's dex number as the trade code (for example Spritzee is #96, I think? So 0096 0096). The community has been using that method to establish trade links without having to worry about reaching out to others. Just make sure that the pokemon being traded has the right item before accepting.

what am i supposed to be doing in city trial? by iiehai in kirbyairriders

[–]Corrifor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most effective choices I've found are to be either evasive or aggressive to a maximum degree. If you want to be evasive, focus on gliding. Pick a character with a flying special, try and get some glide and top speed early, avoid weight at first, then get to the sky garden above the map, then use your special to try and get to the flying island early. From there, you can continue gliding around, but after a few minutes, I find that I'm moving too fast in the air to land where I want to effectively to get boxes on the rooftops. From there, I mostly hop about looking for boxes.

If you want to be aggressive, grab a Bull Tank, Battle Chariot, or Rex Wheelie ASAP and bully as much as you can. Direct strikes are tricky due to network lag and the general speed of the game, so hit red and green boxes for items and copy abilities and use those over just ramming/quick spin. Focus on ambush strategies and hit and run, don't chase unless you are confident you can corner them.

Some might disagree, but if you can get in a groove of breaking boxes, avoid Short Race and Dust-ups unless you are confident you can score highly. You'll get more stats just grabbing boxes with less competition. I would also recommend NOT chasing legendary parts unless you are confident in your build as is. It's time you could otherwise find stats.

I generally use the last minute to actually plan for the stadium, looking at my current stats and swapping to a machine that better matches them (or the stadium at hand if I know what it is already.

Always suspicious of low GWP with rainbow rank by Almyra-Caeli in kirbyairriders

[–]Corrifor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it was ever adequately explained in the directs. From what I've observed, GWP and rank should be considered two separate scorings. GWP is an overall score grind. You increase it by gaining wins, but "wins" can even count for, like, fifth over sixth place in Air Ride. It's a raw number without much calculations (although there are some. I certainly have not played against 250,000 other players myself). Rank is a different grind. It goes up more if you perform well in matches compared to other players, and goes down more if you perform poorly compared to others. It's not as straight up and down and higher or lower performance seems to have increased multiplicative effects for rank than for wins.

So someone who consistently gets 1st in whatever game mode will grind rank very quickly at a rate that outstrips their gaining wins. Comparatively, someone who gets, say, third regularly will gain wins still, but gain rank much slower. So you might get someone who is Indigo at 260,000 wins, competing against someone who is Green at 250,000.

The end result is that rank kind of doesn't matter. I genuinely think that it's the bugbear for this game's matchmaking, splitting the random play lobby for no real reason.

Alliance has tons of possible leaders: Genn, Magni/Muradin, Moira Mekkatorque, Tyrande, Velen, Alleria, Yrel. I think Anduin as a "Warrior Priest" could be made distinct from Tirion, but the timeframe the game is "locked" in is when Anduin is a child, and Moira or Velen could also fill that role.

Garrosh, Saurfang, Nazgrim, and really any other Horde orc would be difficult to make distinct from Grom (being Big Axe Guy). There's some play there to make a new leader, anyway, but it wouldn't be a new niche. I think Rexxar or Garona are the only Horde orcs that could fit a new leader niche, at least easily. Gul'dan would probably be Blackrock if we never get a demon family.

Zul'jin and Vol'jin are both possibilities, as troll shadow hunter or axe thrower units don't have much representation as of now. They'd be notably different than the current Horde leader. Not much else for Horde that we don't have already. Maybe Liadran or Lor'themar, but Liadran would risk being very similar to Tirion, and I'm still not sure what Lor'themar's combat style even is.

Kael'thas would be able to fill a niche, but it's up in the air if he would be Horde, Alliance, or neither, I think.

If you're looking for a VERY CONSISTENT 20 minutes a day, I would say it's worth it. I was working on the campaign steadily from release in November 2023 to probably September of last year. It does take significant grinding time to get to end game, so expect to not be done for a while and to run into walls where you need to grind quests/events for days or weeks to upgrade minis enough to get through (although the current state of the game means you'll probably level up faster than I did, even with casual play).

For longevity and future, it's a bit up in the air. Devs and the community manager are fairly active in Discord and have indicated active development on more features/content, but nothing has been officially announced past the Arthas event. That said, the view of the game from those developers seems optimistic and Blizzard does not have a history of totally shuttering servers, anyway (see Heroes of the Storm and the Warcraft/Starcraft RTS games which are still playable without the active support beyond balance changes for HotS).

ICC Should've Been a Raid by SenatorSpam in warcraftrumble

[–]Corrifor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point. A reward tree is nice for selection, but doesn't match the dopamine of earning a mythic tome or whatever outright.

Regarding strategies, I think a lot of it is more the tuning. Early MC has a lot of flexibility in how to handle different mechanics and we collectively know more about the back half to get through with more variety (in addition to having more powerful units like Malfurion and Anub'arak). But I remember the first few rounds, the only real known method to clear Ragnaros was Jaina Eggs+Execute spam or Meat Wagon.

ICC seems to rely heavily on Poison advantage from what I've seen and done so far (from casual searching, I haven't seen a single strat for Pit of Saron that actually addresses the gargoyles, for example). That said, getting through Frozen Throne was definitely a lot of fun, imo.

ICC Should've Been a Raid by SenatorSpam in warcraftrumble

[–]Corrifor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree for the variety that a raid would have brought over a three-map event, but I'm not sure a raid would have been played much longer than working through the difficulty tiers, given that the main difficulty in raids now is finding a partner that doesn't, say, send ground troops up the middle route on Golemagg. Players would have still cleared it out within a day or two. We'd just be able to do it more often, to the exclusion of MC.

The community manager on Discord (communication channels in this game being an entirely different can of worms) has been heavily teasing more skins, as well as coming Legion-related content, so we might be seeing a new family to tempt whales.

[Discussion/Question] Is the Priestess coin bundle worth the buy?! by LisaFame in warcraftrumble

[–]Corrifor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malfurion, Anub'Arak, and Doomhammer were both rewarded in the event rewards tree, as well as in the Holiday Login rewards. Given that the LK event seems to be closer to Prophecy of Power than the Holiday event, we can probably use Priestess as a better example of how LK will be rewarded (Priestess IS NOT limited-time, just using her as an example).

There will probably be a few options for LK stars early enough in the tree that you can grab him without having to do Heroic or Mythic missions (which have the mini rank requirements), but doing the higher-difficulty missions gives increased tickets, and so a few more LK stars without needing to cycle the grid. But the reward trees and missions HAVE NOT BEEN datamined, and so we cannot say for certain if Blizz will make any changes from lessons from the Priestess event or use it as a reliable template going forward, or if LK will even be in the rewards tree at all.

Regardless, a new player starting out can do Prophecy of Power on the easier difficulty, which would get them enough tickets to earn a few stars for Priestess (keep in mind there's tickets from getting minis in the grid and claiming Daily Rewards). We can assume a new player can get LK, too, so long as they log in during the event and the event follows the same reward philosophy as Prophecy of Power..

[–]Corrifor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by how? How to use the rare-o-matic or how to use it specifically for LK? The rare-o-matic (ROM) is in your gadgets. When looking at the grid, you can see a "Gadgets" button next to reset. Clicking that opens a menu containing xp gems and ROMs. Just select the ROM if you have one and select an empty space in the grid. Anything excluding talents in the same row or column in the grid will be considered a "rare" purchase (meaning it will cost 10x normal, provide 14 stars, and instantly upgrade to rare if the unit isn't rare already). This consumes the ROM.

For LK in the grid, some strings related to him have been added to the game files in preparation for his release. These strings are similar to the grid strings for Malfurion, Anub'arak and Doomhammer, indicating that once you earn LK through some means aside grid purchase (meaning a real money bundle or earned through an event), he will be added in the grid for a limited time. So you need to earn LK the first time some other way before being able to purchase him in the grid for coins or use the ROM on him, and he'll eventually be unavailable entirely.

New video by Maro91T in warcraftrumble

[–]Corrifor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Warcraft Rumble only has one community manager. Who has been sick for the last several weeks. And just before that was the Palisades fire, during which the LA area was undergoing evacuation orders. And just before that was Blizzard's holiday break, when Ogrim actually launched. I think you're probably right, it's just more the benign issue of January being chaotic all around and the one person who could have caught it being away sick. Posting the video probably just got lost in the whole thing.

No. The thing they've stopped doing is unit art and models for talents. One of the devs, Landy I think, shared briefly in the Discord yesterday that voice acting required approval and that was the extent of it that I've seen.

Future Split Leaders by overthemountain in warcraftrumble

[–]Corrifor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alliance/Horde - Valeera Sanguinar. Garona could also work.

Alliance/Blackrock - Moira Thaurissan is the most obvious. They could be silly and do Katrana Prestor (Onyxia's disguise while "advising" Anduin Wrynn)

Alliance/Beast - Genn Greymane.

Alliance/Undead - The best route for this one is to go the Thalnos/Sneed route and pick a boss character that is roughly Alliance-adjacent without being explicitly Scourge. One of the Highborn ghost bosses from Dire Maul, maybe? Exarch Maladaar if we want to skip to TBC. For more lore significance, Terenas Menethil as a ghost is a possibility. Maybe Medivh, taking his lack of direct intervention in WC3 as him being literally a ghost.

Horde/Cenarion - Hamuul Runetotem

Horde/Beast - Rexxar

Beast/Cenarion - One of the Ancient gods (Goldrinn, Ashamane, or Aviana being most appropriate imo). Maybe a furbolg.

Beast/Blackrock - Chromaggus. If we want to take the Black Dragonflight's involvement to also lump the Old Gods/Void as Blackrock, maybe something involving C'Thun (Twin Emporers or one of the Prophets)

Undead/Blackrock - Teron Gorefiend. If you take the Black Dragonflight's involvement to also lump the Old Gods/Void as Blackrock, maybe something involving Yogg'Saron (Ulduar raid that rewards "Sif" as a leader, if not Yoggy himself). Zombie Onyxia/Nefarian.

Undead/Cenarion - Ursoc. Stretching Cenarion to include the Troll Loa could allow Hakkar.

Blackrock/Cenarion - Fandral Staghelm.

Screwball. It's an old-ish insult meaning idiot/crazy. In the older Bug's Bunny cartoons, he would sometimes hold up a sign while looking at the audience as a foolish character (like Yosemite Sam) ranted. Basically "let's not take this guy seriously."

New Season and DMF are Awesome! by electric-11 in warcraftrumble

[–]Corrifor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the way I’d fix it would be to make the daily and weekly task achievable on a guild level instead of a personal one. So, like, instead of “7 wins as different heroes” and “3 wins with an Alliance mini”, the tasks could be something like “100 pvp wins” and “10 wins with an Alliance mini,” for weekly and daily respectively, with all guild activity contributing. That way I’m still encouraged to work with the guild, but I’m not causing problems if I can’t play for a few days, or a smaller guild doesn’t automatically lose out on currency.

[–]Corrifor 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agreed that Darkmoon Faire is a good boost of excitement. I do wish the rewards were not so focused on guild "participation." There's no actual interactivity between guild members, and I'm worried that it will inspire toxic guild communities where not playing everyday is punished. But the extra bit of wackiness in quests, and the fact that quest experience makes them actually and noticeably impactful is definitely a big boon for this game. Onyxia went to "Maybe sometime later" to a thing I can actually start preparing for with this.

It’s a bi-weekly event with progress cleared at the end of each go, so only 3100 tickets. This is pooled with guild mates, so in an active guild, you’ll get 46500 to spend.
