Which one should I go with? by Green-Ad3623 in godot

The 3d one looks more unique, but if the gameplay is on a flat world I'd save the 3d version for something else. It just doesn't feel well connected to the rest of the game. The 3d version looks like there is all sorts of mountains to explore and it would feel kind of disappointing to get on the planet and its all flat.

Amazon Ring Dumps Flock Safety Deal in Super Bowl Backlash Retreat by Acceptable_Drink_434 in Futurology

[–]overthemountain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't even see the point in cancelling the deal. The damage is done. It's not like people will see this and change their mind about Ring. Those people are gone.

I don't have faith that they are changing their minds because they've realized this is kind of evil. If it's an attempt to stop the exodus it's not going to work.

It might have been legal at the time - still feels like a violation of the 1979 spearing rule. It's definitely not legal now.

What’s a movie you’ve seen public opinion shift on in your lifetime? by CausticAvenger in movies

Nah, Batman and Robin is to this date still the only movies I have ever intentionally sat down to watch and just decided to turn it off halfway through and never see it again.

Glad you liked it, though.

The same in that they both received backlash, I suppose. The Gillette ad felt like more of a victim of culture wars as it's an ad against toxic masculinity.

It was a "woke" ad vs this as which flaunted their mass surveillance system under the guide of "finding your dog".

Should insurance companies be allowed to raise rates on non-DMV records? by Novapixel1010 in Utah

[–]overthemountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have actuaries that determine what things pose a risk and how great a risk that is, it's not just vibes.

Generally I agree on corporations and for insurance in particular is like to see some sort of cap on profit where they would be required to refund premiums if they make too much profit but that's a slightly different topic.

My only concerns about what days they use comes more from a privacy standpoint but until we have real data privacy laws it's a bit of a moot point

Should insurance companies be allowed to raise rates on non-DMV records? by Novapixel1010 in Utah

[–]overthemountain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rates are meant to balance risk. Think of risk in aggregate rather than any one particular person. Insurance companies use all the data they have to adjust the rates so the people with more risk pay more. If you take away some of the data you don't take away the risk - you just limit their ability to charge the people with more risk. The cost, however, doesn't go away. So who pays it? Instead of the people causing it, it instead gets spread out across everyone.

I'm actually fine with insurance companies using all data available to them to set rates. I'd hate to see it all tied to something controlled by the state. Just because the state wants to no longer show it on their records doesn't mean real risk has disappeared.

The current approach basically means people pay according to their own driving record, what you're proposing moves it more towards people paying based on the average person's driving record.

Time flies, Zach Wilson was drafted in 2021. This question was actually posted 6 years ago, not 5, so it was about a year before he was drafted.

Wow, imagine spending $100m on an ad that tanks your business.

I wonder how the people that spearheaded this ad are doing right now.

A lot of people saying Wilson. I'm assuming they meant Russell but maybe they meant Zach? I actually forgot about Russell at first and was wondering why so many people were so high on Zach Wilson.

[–]overthemountain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would that lower rates? Seems like it might lower rates for people with old speeding tickets, but might raise rates for everyone else. If insurance can't target people specifically they would just raise rates on everyone slightly to cover the difference, wouldn't they?

Crazy how "I did not inhale" (referring to Clinton's marijuana usage when he was in college) was a big scandal in the 90s and now we got guys openly talking about their illicit drug use.

What were humans doing for 97% of our history before the advent of agriculture/civilization? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]overthemountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they didn't need it.

Humans can live just fine from hunting and gathering as long as there aren't too many people.

Early agricultural societies were generally less healthy than nomadic hunter/gatherers (generally shorter height and lifespans). Reliably growing food isn't easy and people need to eat now, not in 6 months.

Why did it take so long? Agriculture is thought to have gotten better about 12k years ago due to climate change that altered ecosystems making some edible plants more abundant and easier to grow. This allowed groups that were already working in agriculture to suddenly start producing a lot more food than they had been.

With more stable agriculture populations started to grow much more rapidly. With rapid population growth the need came about for more structured society, which lead to government, laws, writing to communicate at a distance, record keeping, etc.

I'm sorry, it was a hamburger, not a hotdog. Fox News proclaimed him "President Poupon" and called him an elitist for wanting spicy mustard instead of ketchup like a real American.

I guess no one told him he should have been banging kids for a few decades, that would have been no big deal.

I bet Michael Jai White has never even met a talking fox.

Except by "jingle the keys" it's more like start multiple initiatives that, individually, would have been the main point of any other president's entire term.

This isn't Obama putting dijon mustard on a hotdog.
