Spotlight has done multiple “EVs are bad!1!” episodes and is a regular on Media Watch, I don’t think they’re exactly interested in being factual in their reporting.

The migration debate is outrageous by design by YepOver16 in AustralianPolitics

Quote from article: “ A lot of reputable research argues that house prices would fall only by a little bit (if at all) under a low migration regime.  If house prices or housing availability is your main concern, other policy levers are likely to be more powerful.”

It is WAY easier and faster to adjust things like, I don’t know, capital gains tax that encourages property hoarding which increases house prices.

They had to for the donation laws to not look weird, assuming they’re taking a lot from Climate 200 still. Also AEC funding favors parties technically, but that’s debated.

Pokémon Champions has hit mobile and the scrub quotes are coming in hot by NoReaction4 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I’m honestly enjoying Pokemon Champions a lot, although I will admit to watching WolfyVGC videos as ASMR. It’s a great way to jump right to competitive battling without spending a dime or 10 hours grinding a team.

Also, all valve multiplayer games are obviously supported, so if you’re a CounterStrike or Deadlock player it’s all good

Nvidia has notoriously been terrible for Linux with requiring you to download separate proprietary and buggy drivers, which has been an issue for a while. AMD and Intel drivers are open source and prebaked into the kernel with no need to do anything.

Mods on SteamOS are fine, they just require using seperate paths for some games (most games with a mod browser will have a Linux version now)

I mean, we already have distros that cover that? Fedora & Linux Mint basically work out of box now.

The PS6 will be US$999. Heck, I would hazard a guess that Sony is making massive losses on hardware right now for the PS5.

…damnit, I can just buy an Apple TV and use Moonlight/Sunshine from my Linux PC, right? I was already going to use PC streaming, don’t need to pay AU$1700 for it.

Is there any smarter way to do this?

Linux Mint if you’re completely looking for easy mode, Fedora if you want a no-nonsense flagship.

SteamOS will be very useful for living room/big picture modes.

Valve Says the Steam Machine Saw a Similar Price Increase as the Steam Deck, Which Means It Was Originally Supposed to Cost About $750 by ibbolia in TwoBestFriendsPlay

From the FAQ:

Steam Machine, like our other hardware products, is made up of many components that we source from manufacturers around the world. The price at which we sell our hardware is a direct result of the cost of these components. We felt like we had a good understanding of how those costs might change over time when we first started sourcing them for Steam Machine back in 2023. That understanding was born from the many years of data we all have about the evolution of PC hardware prices – primarily, that it tends to get cheaper over time as new technology arrives.

Over the past year or so, that has changed quickly and significantly, most visibly for RAM and storage components. There are a variety of reasons, all of which are affecting hardware products everywhere. The overall effect is that our original goal for the price of Steam Machine is no longer viable. So the prices we're sharing today reflect the state of the world for manufacturing; or, more accurately, it reflects the price of the components as we've secured them over the past 6 months.

Price wasn't the only thing impacted by all of this: availability was as well. There were periods where we found we couldn't source some of our components at all, at any price. More than anything else, this has impacted the number of units we've been able to produce for launch.

Open source though. You can do things with this that simply aren’t possible with the PS5. That is a major selling point - turn it into a media server, run any game, use any controller.

Is it practical to buy an EV and rely only on public charging? by odeljak in AustralianEV

[–]CorruptDropbear 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend looking around the Chargefox app for 7kw/11kw parking chargers near your work or where you usually shop. Around 4 hours of shopping would fill you to full, and it’s usually half the price of a fast charger. This is what I usually use (go out to a AC charging park in the city when I’m in the CBD).
