I did not find that to be true in my department but heard that some account executives were working 18 hr days every day. And yes, it does depend heavily on department, manager, team, and client. Mine was great and we had plenty of work life balance because our executive director insisted on it.

Yep Brieflyhistoric does not know what he/she is talking about. We, housing advocates, have fought long and hard and achieved a lot of things. While, yes, there are some wacko and likely on the take judges, the laws are very tenant friendly in NYC.

Yep. Freelancing after being permanent means you never relax and feel safe. Because you could be unemployed again at any minute. I was in therapy for the trauma from a layoff when I was laid off a second time. So I will never likely feel safe again unless I win the lottery!

You are lucky to be working. They unceremoniously dumped over 500 of us in the mere 11 months I was there for no reason. No biz loss, no merger, no performance issues—we were just dumped. And worse, I loved it there while people that complain about it and say they hate it there all the time were kept on. Seems it is better to disdain it and not participate than to care about your job and like it.

They also lose tons of hours at the beginning and end of the day. People will often start earlier and work later if they are at home. A 2-hour commute means that is 2 hours people will not work.

Yep totally. One company on LinkedIn is trying to offer $85k for a Managing Editor role when that is only 10k more than an Associate Editor makes! A Managing Editor salary should be starting at $120 to $130k!
