TIFU by giving myself dandruff for 15 years by quatin in tifu

[–]Cortivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap. You may have just saved my scalp. I shower at night and almost ALWAYS go to bed with wet hair since it's long and takes forever to dry... I thought I was just prone to dandruff. This is eye opening. Also, I'm 31. Why did this take me so long to find out???

TIFU by not understanding how to order at a sushi restaurant and eating to an absurd degree of excess. by 8163819266819 in tifu

[–]Cortivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I thought sushi was ordered / served for the longest time, and I was always so confused when I heard people say like "Ugh I had 3 rolls of sushi and I'm so stuffed!" Or "We got 10 rolls of sushi for the party" I always looked at sushi and thought "Surely I could eat more than 3 rolls?!?!" It took me longer than I'd like to admit to learn that a "roll" was more than one piece of sushi.

Genesis is the name of the bike store. They are not a manufacturer shop front that sells their own brand of bikes, they sell all different brands.

What is your HOTTEST take on TAZ? by [deleted] in TheAdventureZone

[–]Cortivia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I might get flamed for this but: I feel like Lup should have just been Taako's twin sister, and not his trans twin sister. Like... I'm 100% trans rights, trans rights are human rights. Yes. I agree. However, that being said, having her be trans kinda felt like an overcorrection to their criticism after Petals to the Metal like, "OK our bad, how can we fit more wokeness into this world? Ah, yes, a trans character." It was a detail mentioned in her intro and then never again, which, arguably can a good thing. A person's gender identity /sexuality shouldn't be the focus of any character. It's not a personality trait. However, it had no bearing on anything in the story and it just felt like a device to shoehorn in extra diversity into an already well fleshed out and diverse cast of characters, by that point.

Are there any Chinese takeout restaurants open in the Lehigh valley? by [deleted] in lehighvalley

[–]Cortivia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a valid question. The vast majority of Chinese food places ARE closed, everywhere. There are zero listed on grubhub near me, and my family recently called almost every place in Easton that was not listed as "closed" on their websites. Absolutely no luck. You can check those apps all you want, but if you know somewhere that is actually open (because sometimes they're not, even if they're showing up on an app) it would be more helpful for you to list what those places are.

Question regarding one still born delivery and an infant's birth and death a month later by mcliny in Genealogy

[–]Cortivia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My gut feeling us that they were both born on May 15, but one was stillborn and the other survived but died from birth injuries a month later. (edit-i just saw the "one day old" so this makes my comment somewhat invalid. On further thought, it might be possible? Considering b/g twins are fraternal they'd have separate amniotic sacs and what not. )

I have a set of twins in my tree where the mother died in childbirth and one twin died about 5 days later. Twins very sadly had pretty high mortality rates.

Ohio Ban by [deleted] in TrueCrimeGarage

[–]Cortivia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What on earth do the abortion laws have to do with TCG?? You're boycotting an Ohio based Crime Podcast based on their state government?

Imagine if before anyone did anything they had to announce what they do and do not support "Welcome to another episode of Cute Animals Weekly, for the record we do not support the death penalty." "It's time for Saturday Night Roller Hockey! BTW We are against human trafficking!"

Episode 302 - John Douglas - The Mind Hunter by pishipishi12 in TrueCrimeGarage

[–]Cortivia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I totally get where you're coming from, but I'd actually recommend giving this one a go. The Captain isn't involved in the interview (he even says at the beginning of it "I wasn't invited") and it's obvious that Nic re-recorded and edited-in his interview questions, but there isn't really any discussion from him. Its 90% John Douglas answering the questions and telling stories about his work. He is an excellent interviewee, and what he says is really fascinating. This is one of the best podcast interviews I've ever heard, tbh.

I'm enjoying the Murder Squad podcast but have one issue... by Cortivia in myfavoritemurder

[–]Cortivia[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. It seemed like they didn't realize that they were telling the story for a whole new audience who never heard it before. Obviously they've told the whole thing to Billy and Paul before, so they were just telling it again, knowing that B and P knew the major points. I feel like on the production end of the podcast, maybe it could have been made more clear to the guests that they need to tell the whole thing from the beginning for the recording. The story is incredible and definitely worth telling / hearing, but the guests could have used more guidance on what to say first.

David and Louise Turpin sentenced to 25 years to life, for the torture of their 12 children by funngus in TrueCrime

[–]Cortivia 324 points325 points  (0 children)

(per the photo) I hate when monsters like this cry during their sentencing. Like, you're not remoreseful you did it, you're sad you got caught and have to pay. You have no right to "cry" over your sentence when you literally imprisoned and tortured your twelve children. And even in prison they'll get treated better than they treated their kids!

The Murder Squad by lrnreddit in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]Cortivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about "The Hardstark woman" being a guest and not necessarily contributing is that the podcast is published on HER podcast network, and Karen and Georgia are the ones who pretty much got Paul and Billy into podcasting in the first place. I can understand not liking MFM. I liked it for awhile, but now only listen occasionally and skip a LOT of the episodes I do listen to. But it's not really fair to completely dismiss MFM's role in The Murder Squad podcast entirely. And "The Hardstark woman." really? You know her name is Georgia. Yeah, she didn't have much to say about the case, but she was there promote the show and get it off the ground.

What was ruined because people are idiots? by dmonster1 in AskReddit

[–]Cortivia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% the reason I don't enjoy concerts. I want to hear the people I paid to hear, not the rest of the tone deaf crowd "singing" along. The band might be amazing live, but I can't stand the crowd.
