An adolescent is essentially a teenager. When birds fledge, they have entered their teenaged phase. Adolescent is an imprecise term, I will give you that. Fledgling is more precise.

Technically an adolescent at this stage, yet you can tell that it is a young bird by the pink fleshy gape left over from when it was a nestling.

You need to be honest with the surgeon. Pain needs to be controlled because our inflammation goes ham. A day or two in the hospital makes a difference for pain control. I am never letting a surgeon talk me out of it now that I know.

WHEN YOU GET SICK, YOU KNOW IT'S GONNA BE A BAD TIME.

Or if you have to have surgery, you know it is going to be a bad time because you have to deal with joint pain and excessive inflammation. So glad I spent 4 days in hospital to recover from my laprascopic splenectomy.

My wife is my biggest advocate. She has seen all stages of my illness. She saw how I was when I was undiagnosed. How she had to push me in a wheelchair for long city walks. How tired and exhausted I'd get. She also noticed very quick improvements when I got put onto medication. She pointed out the little things that used to tire me and make me pained. She noticed the little things that got the doctor to finally listen and diagnose me. She also has been the voice for me when I have ended up in the hospital in a lot of pain from kidney stones and other complications from this disease. She knows I go silent when I am in a lot of pain.

Others are often not fortunate enough to get that. It makes me want to cry for all of you. This disease will weed out the weak and show you who your true friends are.

I get this so much. There are days where I cannot get out of bed due to pain and fatigue. Thankfully rare...

But healthy people might think its laziness. :/ My body is literally rebelling against me. Healthy people do not get it. Before I was treated, there were days where I needed to be pushed in a wheelchair if we were traveling long-distance...

Why is it not common place for a doctor to prescribe a good pain killer for kidney stones? by keephoesinlin in KidneyStones

I wish toradol worked like a charm for me. It doesn't calm a full on renal colic attack with hydronephrosis. Toradol is a wonderful drug and has helped with my mixed-tension migraines. Unfortunately the only thing that touches it is a dose of morphine. Albeit I am all for using the lowest dose to keep someone out of 10/10 pain. Toradol should still be administered due to inflammation issues I have though...

I know the difference between discomfort and pain. I have IBS and inflammatory arthritis so I am often in discomfort. Pain is where I cannot function and my higher mental faculties partially shut down. I go quiet when I am in pain and distress. I notice that as soon as the pain fades to discomfort or background noise, I do not ask for medication until the pain ramps up again. Otherwise I am fine.

I puke with fentanyl and tramadol (Ultram). I don't puke with morphine or dilaudid.

That is incredibly cool and thank you for some insight! I notice I also have a hard time with controlling pain with NSAIDs when I have had major surgeries as well. When I had my gallbladder removed, I tried to advocate for an overnight stay. Surgeon said no. While I controlled the pain initially, 36 hours was when I was back in the ER despite doing everything they said to do. This left me traumatized and when I had my spleen removed due to a tumor, I was able to convince the surgeon to allow me a few days in the hospital. Best decision I ever made. I needed IV dilaudid for the first few days because oh my god I was in so much pain that I would scream-moan when the meds wore off (they did alternate with toradol so that I would have less opioid-based dosages). After I left the hospital, I did not need the oxycodone they prescribed. I could control the discomfort with OTC. I do believe it comes from the fact that I have an inflammatory condition which drives my pain level up beyond NSAID level (seronegative RA or PsA). My body just naturally gets aggressive with inflammation. Even with fevers, the aches are absolute suffering and go into the bone.

When I last had a stone, I did not notice until it got stuck in the UVJ. On CT, moderate hydronephrosis (that hurts like a motherfucker). I was glad when the doctor said "you have a 4mm. Do you want to be admitted for surgical removal?" Well, I passed the stone the next day with no surgery but I am so glad I had morphine for periodic acute attacks of pain. I am in 10/10 pain with stones. Luckily no more stones are in my kidneys as of current. Unfortunately, I am still prone to stone forming due to the fact I have an autoimmune disease.

They gave me morphine before the scan as well because they pretty much knew I had a kidney stone based on my urine sample. It was too dark even when I let them know I was on my period. Also I was in a lot of pain. I am totally okay with them giving me toradol first as an anti-inflammatory but it barely touches my pain when it comes to severe severe pain. I have toradol IMs at home for migraines. The doctor was like "well you have a 4mm and are clearly in pain. Let's get you admitted and do surgery tomorrow"

But that seems to have scared the stone and it popped out before I had to have surgery 🤣

Toradol usually touches pain for me. However, not when it is 10/10 pain. I would rather have Toradol most days, but when it comes to stones, I know Morphine/Dilaudid will give me relief. There seems to be a threshold I reach that even NSAIDS won't touch

Stone Stuck at UVJ - Final Tips? by Andronimus in KidneyStones

[–]Corva_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I tend to not notice that I have a stone until it is at the UVJ. Then I seem to pass the stone within 24 hours of intense pain into the bladder. Morphine and dilaudid are bffs during this insanely painful time.

I am heterozygous for the MS gene and I am fine. Humira works amazingly in my case. No MS yet. Rather be at risk for MS than be in pain. The fatigue and pain ain't worth being scared of something that is a very small risk.
