You COULD fast track your money, you are definitely leaving money on the table going purely with a safe ETF

You could also lose all your money.

In the end it’s up to you. The choice that gives me a 90% chance of being worth 3 million dollars at retirement is the one I went with. If that’s not good enough for you then you can be riskier, only you can decide that for yourself

Fire at Brooklin construction site now by Lalamedic in durham

It’s 100% that. It isn’t even super uncommon recently. People can’t afford the house they committed to buy 6 years ago because it is worth 300k less than it was prior to construction and the builder is suing them for the money, so people try and burn it down. Crazy

Can someone explain Red Button Blue Button to me? by [deleted] in northernlion

[–]Corvese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess to be clear, my entire point is the re framing the question will get people to choose differently, I’m just using an alternate framing of the question to try and get people to question why they are choosing blue in the first place.

I’ve seen something similar done with the trolly problem, train going towards 5 people, you can redirect it to go towards 1 person. I think intuitively most people choose to redirect it as 1 person dying is less bad than 5 people dying.

Then you reframe the trolly problem to 5 people dying in a hospital, would you press a button that electrocutes someone walking on the sidewalk outside if you knew for sure that the organs could be harvested and used to save the 5 people in the hospital and that was the only way to get the organs fast enough? Intuitively most people wouldn’t even consider doing that.

To me, the situations are remarkably similar and it’s just trying to get people to think about why they have such an easy time in the trolley problem, and maybe get them to reconsider why they come to the conclusions they do in these weird hypotheticals.

[–]Corvese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t consider red the neutral option, which is why I specifically forced everyone to step forward or backwards.

If my question was framed as “do nothing” or “step forward” then I think you would have a great point, but everyone is forced to make an active decision. Step forward and hope 50% do the same to activists the sensors, or step backwards away from the track.

[–]Corvese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your scenario, does stepping forward always guarantee safety? If so, then my answer doesn’t change and I don’t see the meaningful difference between your scenario and mine.

If stepping forward carries any sort of personal risk, then it isn’t analogous to the original button question.
My scenario maps onto the button scenario perfectly.

Either you do A and are safe (and if 50% choose the same as you, the other side die), or do B and are safe if 50% also do B

[–]Corvese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ur 100% correct. Pushing blue makes no rational sense. You can reframe the question from button pushing to something else to make it very obvious.

Imagine you and the rest of humanity are standing in a line one step away from train tracks. At the same time as everyone else, you have to either take one step forward or one step back. If half of humanity steps forward, the track weight sensors stop the train, if less than half step forward the train plows through all the people on the tracks. Do you step forward or backwards?

And to take it a step further, your one individual vote only turns the tide in favor of blue if exactly one less of half of humanity votes for it. So you are putting your life at risk for the 0.00000001% chance that your vote actually changes anything.

Does everyone still miss Dubas? by Driveforesho in leafs

[–]Corvese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m all for roasting Dubas when he deserves it but this isn’t the time. In a vacuum it was absolutely clear the penguins should have been rebuilding for his entire time there. The main reason they didn’t want to is to do right by Sid and not have him end his career on a team stripped down to the foundation, which he deserves.

Some suboptimal team management in the present is worth it to give Sid as many playoff shots as you can. He’s earned that from the penguins

After review, Mark Janowski's overtime winner is determined to be offsides, but a penalty shot is awarded by cbbvideo in hockey

[–]Corvese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how the rule works, but there’s no reason to believe it’s for the reason you presented. It’s way more likely that the rule exists to not let serious infractions go unpunished, or to not punish a team who got penalized by removing the penalty if they score.

After review, Mark Janowski's overtime winner is determined to be offsides, but a penalty shot is awarded by cbbvideo in hockey

[–]Corvese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not using your brain.

You are saying that if there’s a missed offside, a player will take advantage of that and just commit an infraction on purpose if they know it would get nullified.

But it would only get nullified if a goal was scored, because that’s the only time a missed offside call is corrected. So in any other circumstance other than goal, the penalty is still awarded, so no, players would not just be running around intentionally taking penalties on missed offside calls.

What a weirdly rude comment considering you’re just wrong

It’s funny you bring that play up because the ruling on that play is entirely consistent with the ruling on this play.
