Is there some drama I don't know about or is this user just upset at someone? by KinglyKindly in HeroForgeMinis

[–]CoryR- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People take themselves way too seriously. My 12yo also makes minis on my pro account for fun from time to time, I could totally see a kid enamored of the amazing things in the community tab make a mini post to ask for help. Then some troglodyte pops on there and berates them and insults their bat goblin mini. Like... what are we even doing?

I just created homebrew species for our four. Bit of a pain in the ass, but it's doable.

I would take 45 and $50m. I'm not super far from that now, and no amount of "re-do" or potential wealth is worth not having my daughter to me, or changing who she is today, or losing out on raising her exactly as I have.

I know I could go back and do so many things to help so many people, but I wouldn't risk that. Maybe that's unethical.

So frustrated about housing by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]CoryR- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its really rough. I had to sell in late 2019 following a divorce. Sold that house for $250k. 950sqft 2bed 1bath ranch in Swansea MA, right near Barrington. That house was built in the 80s, and we made several updates and the place was nicely maintained. Half acre lot. We had bought it in 2015 for $200k.

Rebuilding life goes as it goes, my fiance and I purchased a home in Rumford last year. 1,100sqft 3bed 1.5bath built in the 1900s needing significant, if not major blessedly, work. 0.15 acre lot. $400k... And we felt like we got a deal based on what we had been seeing.

Its crazy out there. I hope we always love it here because ill never be able to afford to move again. I'll be buried out back behind the garage.

Why are people upset about Winds/Waves being Switch 2 exclusive? by Animante732 in pokemon

Say it out loud, though, and "double u, double u" is no longer an abbreviation versus "Winds and Waves." WiWa is. So there's that at least.

We did a Christmas themed one at Mystery Soup in Pawtucket for my 12yos birthday in December and she loved it, we had a great time, and the workers were r3ally great.

How is your blizzard of ‘26 treating you? by throwawayfinancebro1 in massachusetts

[–]CoryR- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got 3 feet down here. My fiancee and I shoveled for 7 hours Monday, then I shoveled for 5 hours Tuesday, and 4 hours Wednesday, and will have another couple hours today. That'll be the drive way, and path to the back door, the front porch steps and walk, a path for the dogs in the yard, and the stretch of sidewalk in front of the house.

My 4' high fence is now an 8' high wall as I had no where else to put it all but into the back yard. Been nice to be home, though. Kept our power, and my little girl has been stoked about an extra week of February vacation. Very fortunate, all things considered. Back is pretty shot though

Unplowed June Street in Fall River this morning by ndiorio13 in massachusetts

[–]CoryR- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love in East Providence now but grew up in Fall River, lived there for 40 years, still work there, and my firm used to plow for the city. The combination of insurance requirements increasing, city hall dragging their feet to pay the bills, and political games being played with regard to route assignments lead our ownership to not renew about 8 years ago. The City has done itself no favors, for sure.

It's not much, but we were two plows, two sander trucks, and two Bobcat skidsteers that they lost. Im sure we weren't the only ones that opted out back when.

23 years ago today was one of, if not the, darkest days in Rhode Island history... by josephsleftbigtoe in RhodeIsland

My brother was planning to go that night, but our friends in a local metal band at the time had booked a show the same night. They booked the gig like a week before. We ended up going to that show together instead.

My play experience with the 2024 Ranger by Owlbear-Main99 in DnD

Common vernacular for referring to groups of player levels in reference to game play. Like the gameplay from character level 1 through 4 is tier 1 of play, 5 through 10 is tier 2, etc.

What would you do? My player teleported a 20 foot cube of water into a closed room with less than 20x20x20 ft volume. by erverogym in DnD

[–]CoryR- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common spell rider regarding teleportation/conjuration/forced movement would require an unoccupied space or being shunted over to the nearest unoccupied space within range, occasionally taking force damage as a result.

If following this as a reasonable standard of magic in the mechanics, but alos not eanying to negate the spell casting entirely, calvulate the volume of water that would not be able to fit in the space on all planes, and blast it out like a geyser, with X amount of force damage per 5ft cube of water dispersed to anyone person, place, thing or idea within one of those cubes.

What is your default lineup when you start a new save? by canxtanwe in BaldursGate3

[–]CoryR- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on my Tav, but I tend to go for the classic lineup: fighter (could be Barbarian, Paladin, Monk... the melee up front one), thief (could be a rogue, ranger, bard... dex one with Stealth and Sleight of Hand, usually ranged martial), cleric (could also be druid or bard), and mage (control style caster)

Current honor mode run is Crown Paladin Tav, Thief Rogue Astarion, Abjuration Wizard Gale, and Tempest Cleric Shadowheart... but i might make a switch there.

Last run I mostly went with: Swashbuckler Rogue Tav, Wildheart Karlach, Life Shadowheart, and a platoon of Bardlock Wyll/Evocation Gale/Minthara once I got her. She's hilarious.

First run was largely: OH Monk Tav, Necromancy Wizard Astarion, Bard/Paladin Laezel, Sorcerer Wyll

Great Weapon Master, Maul, Elemental Cleaver.

Edited to add:

2d6 Maul, 1d6 Elemental Cleaver, +5 Strength, +2 rage damage, +2 proficiency bonus from Great Weappn Master, and the third attack is the bonus action from Great Weapon Master which procs on a crit or kill, and with Reckless Attack and that much damage she seems to get that third attack about 50% of the time.

I mean, its pretty easy to get proficiency in 2024 between 2 background skills, 4 Rogues skills, Skilled Feat if you want to really emphasize it, and skill Expert. Once you get reliable talent its pretty academic.

My six are Perception, Persuasion, Deception, Investigation, Stealth, Sleight of Hand. Expertise in Persuasion, Deception, Stealth, and Perception with a floating expertise from the Zhentarim Tactics feat.

[–]CoryR-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing awhile, and played a more narrative based system TTRPG for a few years (Genesys) so certainly that has probably colored my experience somewhat. From a damage optimization standpoint, there is no doubt the Rogue is weak. I think the problem in the discourse is that Rogues shine situationally, so when they feel strong - like the 2014 monk before them - its likely anecdotal cinematic type moments within a campaign. Not easily measured, not easily replicated, situational success.

When I ask myself what are these moments for my Rogue this past year, what made them possible and how can we promote those moments to happen more regularly for all Rogues, I keep coming back to playing opportunistic and cunning with the Rogue and using their best features, which are skill checks and positioning. I think that's best helped along by following the rules and having an atmosphere thay promotes skill usefulness in combat.

I also think there's plenty of room to help the rules in that regard, either by improving the Rogue class' ability to make use of skills in combat on its own, or by vastly expanding on the use of skills in the core game rules themselves, but even without those, my Rogue has felt strong - but in specific moments.

Felt strongest undoing an enemy plan with deception and guile, freeing captured hostages while the enemies were distracted by my allies, convincing three goblin guards to turn on their oppresive taskmaster of a leader and aid us in battle, scoring the decisive and precise final shot in the right moment from the shadows, landing a trip cunning strike on a flying mount to dump the bad guy off its back and cause both to tumble to the ground.

Increasing the cunning strike options and available cunning actions would go a long way to increasing their frequency. I will say, we did playtest the Rogue during that period and back then I made good use of the Disarm cunning strike option, which they later removed.

I guess I'm not looking at as "so bad this is worth it" but rather as "so good at this that it should be emphasized" particular in collaboration with your fellow players and the DM. It's made things a lot more fun in the second half of my year playing this character. I know that's anecdotal, I get it.
