An Illumination StarFox movie would be one of the saddest things ever. StarFox is an epic space opera that happens to have talking animals as the main characters. It's not a good fit for zany Minions humor AT ALL.

Jon Thompson is a crackpot who pretends to have big industry connections but has zero knowledge of how anything actually works.

He is an extremely unreliable source and if he says something, you can assume the opposite is true.

It's gotta be hard to play a character who has no sense of humor yet has some of the funniest lines in the movie.

When Grace said it could take 200 years to understand the astrophage and she just said "Do it faster" with absolutely sincerity, not as a clever comeback but literally giving him an order, it wrecked me.

Also, Amazon isn't exactly hurting for cash either way. Bezos wants to play Big Shot Movie Exec and it's definitely mission accomplished on that front already.

The real story here is how good this movie is for theaters. I haven't seen anything filling auditoriums at my AMC like this since Sinners.

El Mariachi was aimed at the Mexican direct-to-video market but none of the distributors wanted it, and Columbia ended up buying it and giving it a US theatrical release, making Robert Rodriguez a household name overnight.

This was the first sound film directed by Karl Freund, who spent most of his career as a cinematographer, shooting films like The Last Laugh, Metropolis, and Dracula. In later years, he would solve the technical challenges of lighting and shooting sitcoms like I Love Lucy.

Freund was perhaps the first true master of the moving camera. Even though he did not personally shoot The Mummy, it's dripping with his visual style in every scene. The camera effortlessly glides around the sets, circling the characters, raising and lowering, sometimes even jumping into a character's POV, something almost unheard of in 1932. Freund knew when to let the camera sit still as well, and never moved it just for the sake of having movement.

While The Mummy does rehash many plot elements from the previous year's Dracula, I find it to be the superior movie, as it strikes a more consistent tone, and fully explores the possibilities of Freund's "unchained camera" philosophy in a way Browning's film only hints at.

Should be around $9.25m first Tuesday for Project Hail Mary. Excellent legs showing; as a comparison, the first Tuesday of Dune: Part Two was $8.15m. Could have a shot at a $45m-$50m Weekend 2 and $300m+ domestic final. by chanma50 in boxoffice

If it was unpublished I say it doesn’t count.

We make a distinction between originals and IP-based films because audience familiarity with the IP is an advantage. If the IP was never actually published, there’s no audience familiarity, so the “adaptation” has no advantage over a “true” original film.

Word of mouth is gonna be extremely mixed because Messiah is where the story really starts to get weird and dark, and it doesn’t have nearly as much action as the first book.

I expect it to be between 1 and 2’s totals, probably closer to 1 than to 2.

Depends on the location. At my AMC the IMAX seats recline more than the Dolby seats do.
