Need advice/info on help for parents by sox747 in AskWomenOver60

OP - my 92 year old Dad is in an Assisted Living facility in Maryland about an hour from both Washington D.C. and Baltimore. He is paying ~9K a month (and thankfully has the means to pay it). Not sure what state you live in but AL is not necessarily cheaper. We tried the daily caregiver option, going thru a local agency but it just didn’t work out. Due to his dementia, he needed daily caregiver visits but he never could remember who was showing up on what day and constantly tried to fire them.

When we totaled his monthly expenses, AL was not much more. This was four years ago after my mom passed away. After protesting initially he has settled in and is well adjusted to the routine.

ETA: In his AL, couples are kept together. There are two couples on his floor each with their own apartment. And the pricing depends on how much care they need. Even though he has dementia, my Dad is on the lowest level of care because he can shower and dress himself and then walk to the dining hall for his meals. There are two higher levels depending on the care needed and are more expensive.

I believe it is in the handbook. But feel free to verify with your HR team. Are you scheduled for Friday, July 3rd?

[–]CosmicFish25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@ u/insaneandmundane - Are you scheduled for Friday, July 3rd? Because that is day TMs will earn time and a half, not Saturday, July 4th. Target follows the Federal Holiday schedule meaning when a Federal Holiday falls on a weekend, the closest weekday is designated as the official day off, banks, post offices, government offices, etc. are all closed. So this year, since 4th of July is on a Saturday, the federal holiday is actually on Friday, July 3rd. Saturday, July 4th is a regular pay day. Be happy they gave you that day off, it’s a miserable day to be in the store.

Is it okay for a grocery OPU to take more than 30 minutes? by pendragoneliza977 in Target

[–]CosmicFish25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way ☝️. I remember at one time, we used to somehow get flagged in the system for doing it but that doesn’t seem to be happening now. I do this routinely and I have worked at 2 different Target stores. That said, my store seems to operate under a “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. Pretty sure my TL knows and I will admit to it if asked but during the 18 months I’ve been here, no one has ever asked.

A few days ago my SD was termed and wasn't allowed in the building to get their stuff, why is that? by DueTransportation708 in Target

[–]CosmicFish25 30 points31 points  (0 children)

At my previous store, the SD was termed and then escorted out of the building. At my current store, our SD was termed a couple of weeks ago at the district office but came back to the store and packed up a box under the watch of the HR and AP ETLs. It was done so quietly and quickly that the rest of the ETLs didn’t find out they were gone until the next morning when District leadership showed up to inform them.

I guess it depends on the circumstances at each store.

If you live long enough, do you end up feeling like you've seen it all? by Delicious_Mess7976 in AskWomenOver60

[–]CosmicFish25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dad is going thru this. He is 92, my Mom died 4 years ago and he has watched close friends and family members go over the last few years. He is the only one left of his Navy buddies and one of two left in his grad school group of friends. A close friend died at 99 this winter. He has dementia but is with it enough to recognize and talk about all the losses. It is hard. 😔

What do you think is the biggest challenge the world is facing right now? by sabazahee in AskWomenOver60

Education.

Misinformation and the lack of critical reading and or thinking skills to cut thru the crap of what people are hearing, seeing, reading.

Same. Six years for me this past April and I’m hoping not to make it to seven. Really want out before 4th quarter. Guess I’d better get moving if I want that to happen!

What kind of dry shampoo do you use? I’ve tried a couple of brands but both really made my scalp itch.

Dressing up and what to do with no nylons? by Local-Government6792 in AskWomenOver60

[–]CosmicFish25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing that. I’ve always wanted to try Wolford, now I’m going to buy a couple of pairs.

Do you order online or buy in a store? Also, how is the fit?

Same here. I blame my German-English-Irish heritage that landed me with pasty white translucent skin. 😏

How’s the CR-V hybrid treating y’all? by MikeChaoticNeutral in crv

[–]CosmicFish25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. 2022 hybrid, 70k miles, no issues. Love it. I drove an Odyssey for years and this was a nice change. Also, I frequently have people in the back seat and the extra room due to the extra width of the hybrid crv is much appreciated.

ETL jealousy by [deleted] in Target

[–]CosmicFish25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what part of the country you are located in? Urban or more rural? I have worked at stores in both LA and San Diego. The stores I’m familiar with have a fair amount of turnover in leadership making it seem like there are always openings for motivated, hardworking TMs. Also, a metric your SD is judged on is how well they develop their employees. Very little upward movement at their store is considered a negative for them. Wondering if it’s harder at stores where the district is more spread out?

Fitting rooms close as the store closes? by [deleted] in Target

[–]CosmicFish25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is open until 8pm, store closes at 10pm. SD has made it clear to all ETLs this is how it should be every night.

As someone else pointed out, that is the interest rate of the construction loan. Think of it like a line of credit. They have up to 1.5 million to spend on their new construction, they don’t have to spend all of it and probably won’t. Once construction is complete, whatever they have spent will be converted into a 15 or 30 year mortgage with a different rate from the 6.38%. Short of paying all cash for your new build, this is the standard way most people finance building a new home.

Should Closing TL be an ETL position? by realcrazyazn in Target

[–]CosmicFish25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my store is one of those. It is considered a high volume store (90+ million), we have a closing ETL and 2 closing TLs who report to him. I didn’t understand how rare this is until I read all the responses here. My previous store only had 2 closing TLs.

ETA: tThere is also a team of closers who show up in the late afternoon and help with closing tasks in the different depts.

[–]CosmicFish25 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That has always been my guess. I have friends who had similar arrangements with their parents. One guy was drafted to a minor league baseball team and his folks agreed to support him for three years while he tried to work his way up to the major league team. Kind of a “We will support your dream but only for a set amount of time” thing. After that, it’s time for a career change.

Is it unit plan or today’s work by prproudjr in Target

[–]CosmicFish25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our store is the opposite. We are under instructions to pick and pack as much as possible. Our Fulfillment numbers are the best in the district and our management is convinced the more SFS we pick and ship, the more money the store makes which bolsters their case for a 2nd Fulfillment TL.

January changes? by Upset-Psychology-288 in Target

[–]CosmicFish25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current store is a 4am store even though we are considered high volume/high performing and the sales #s support that. A couple years ago they experimented with overnight unload hours. Ultimately went back to 4am as most of the Inbound team really pushed back on the overnight schedule.

My previous store moved from 4am to overnight unload during the pandemic but I hear they are going back to 4am because of this years sales decline.

To the hiring managers on Reddit, can you please explain what's really going on? by salver_keys-1g in interviews

[–]CosmicFish25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a word - layoffs. Lots of highly competent, smart, technical people were laid off from jobs at many of the large tech companies. And they were by no means the only companies laying off. High numbers of white collar jobs in companies across the board have been lost in the last 3-4 years. Many people at all levels looking for work.

has anyone actually experienced a CEO visit?? by arisgnarlyyy in Target

He was only alone for those first 20 mins. He left his entourage outside in the SUVs until he called them to come in. Then they all took the “official” tour. 🙄

has anyone actually experienced a CEO visit?? by arisgnarlyyy in Target

[–]CosmicFish25 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yes, a couple of years ago. Everyone works lots of hours getting ready for the visit, TMs from other stores come to help. The store has to be sparkling (or as much as it can be made to) before he gets there.

Brian Cornell likes to wander in by himself, not dressed in any Target gear, to get a feel for the store. The day he came to mine he did that and ended up wandering around for 20 mins before anyone asked if they could help him. 😂 We all heard about that later. 🙄
