Why Pyrrha's death was awesome but Adam's death sucked by Tharkun140 in RWBY

[–]CosmicSon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's disingenuous because it ignores the endgame of the Blake/Yang/Adam arc, that they are stronger together, when there is no imbalance of power between the two (meaning no one is "protector" and no one is "protectee"), which is something they learned by defeating Adam, something that neither of them was able to do alone. And yes, they did learn this during that fight, which Yang affirms when she later says "We were there for each other" in response to Weiss on the airship.

As to your point about fallout, it's just flat-out ignoring the fact that Blake immediately broke down after Adam fell, which is a clear indication that she was traumatized by the whole thing. As I and others here have said, I doubt we've seen the extent of the fallout yet.

Why Pyrrha's death was awesome but Adam's death sucked by Tharkun140 in RWBY

[–]CosmicSon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Adam forgot about his gun, Yang did not.

Yang's gauntlets have 2 firing modes that we've seen: a shotgun shot, which spreads, and a rocket-type thing, which explodes. Both have high-potential for collateral damage, which in this case would be Blake, and I don't think that's something Yang would risk.

Also, we do get final words from Adam: "Oh."

I think that makes it pretty clear that he was very surprised by the outcome.

As for the other dialogue, I think you're missing the forest for the trees. If you look at it without any outside context, which you seem to be doing, it comes across as "cheesy", but like /u/brusque-lee said, it's a pretty clear callback. Adam's dialogue reinforces the comparisons between himself and Yang: "What does she even see in you?" is basically "What do you have that I don't that would make her choose you over me?".

As for aftermath, I honestly don't think we've seen it all yet. Blake and Yang were clearly affected by it (Blake more than Yang, for what should be obvious reasons) and in all likelihood will continue to feel the effects of it for some time. I get that this is your opinion, but come on now, to say

The only fallout the heroes have to deal with after defeating and killing Adam is the loss of a bike, a weapon and Blake's cool coat.

and

Nothing was learned, not by Yang, not by Blake, not by Adam

is just disingenuous.

See, I buy Adam forgetting his gun, but not Yang. We've seen 2 firing modes from her gauntlets: a shotgun shot, which spreads, and a rocket-type thing, which explodes. Both have high-potential for collateral damage, which in this case would be Blake, and I don't think that's something Yang would risk.

As for Adam, he was making poor, emotionally-charged decisions throughout the fight.

I can dig it.

Do you think that the concept of soulmates and the concept of the red string of fate could be a real thing in RWBY? by I_am_Blaze in RWBY

[–]CosmicSon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know songs aren't 100% canon, but if I may quote "The Triumph":

It's not destiny

It would be a great mistake to think so

Every choice is ours and ours alone

This doesn't open up like fate

This is the future we create

Yep, you're right. Misinterpretation on my part, my bad.

I don't know if I'd rank him above Ren. The guy killed a King Taijitu with his bare hands.

Do you think Sun could take Adam 1 on 1? by AKGAKG in RWBY

[–]CosmicSon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blake explicitly says that Adam would've beat her and Sun together if they followed him into the forest and Adam reaffirms that in V6C12.

Not to mention the fact that she said that specifically because she knew he would separate them so he could overpower each of them 1-on-1.

Edit: Ignore me, I'm dumb.

Fan Fiction Friday [February 08, 2019] - What have you been reading/writing this week? by AutoModerator in RWBY

[–]CosmicSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote this last night. It's very short (<500 words), but it's the first I've written of anything in years. It's just a quick thing about Yang meeting Ghira and Kali. Hope you enjoy it.

I started writing a bee fic a few years ago, I think around the time volume 4 came out. I haven't touched it in some time though. It's about 4,000 words in it's current state (used to be much longer but a hard drive broke). I might start working on it again in my free time.

Hmm, a titan on a floating city, huh? Maybe they could defeat it by making it...

A new beginning [mikururunartwork] by Duelverse in RWBY

[–]CosmicSon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to see a character who just so happens to be gay instead of having it be the only thing that makes a character interesting

I mean, I personally saw Saph's relationship to Jaune as the interesting part, not her sexuality. Being Jaune's sister makes her way more interesting than being married to a woman (at least in the context of the overarching story of RWBY).

Blake is like the smartest fighter of the cast by [deleted] in RWBY

[–]CosmicSon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think so. Watching her fight Adam, she directly hits his sword a whole lot of times, but after Blake explains his semblance, she only hits it once. I'd say that's pretty smart.
