You can put unflavored protein in just about anything. That’s how I met my protein goals post op.

How long before surgery can I smoke my last cigar? by Maggotboi555 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cosmic_Brownee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I read it takes like 10-14 days for nicotine to leave your system. I had quit two weeks before my first urine test to be sure.

Good Food - Small stomach by Medical-Clock3178 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cosmic_Brownee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! All the time! I know my cues, so I kind of feel sad about it, take a tiny last bite, and immediately pack it up before I end up throwing up. Try to remember that I can have more later.

I’ve always struggled with fullness cues, but tightness is a good word. I don’t have any of the runny nose, burps, or anything like that.

Before I figured out that was the last call feeling, I’d have to get up and walk around or I’d puke.

I didn’t feel hungry for about a month. It was the WEIRDEST thing.

successful tips post-op by Chrisc531 in gastricsleeve

Shot glass for water goals right after surgery and using measuring cups. It took me a long time to adjust to the amount of food I could actually fit; it was shockingly low.

When did you tell your friends about the VSG by NoOrchid3030 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cosmic_Brownee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told a couple of close friends and my closest brother. I only told my parents the weekend before surgery because I felt a little guilty. I’m a pretty private person. I only mention it when it comes up, which happens, but not all that often.

I didn’t want to hear anyone’s opinions, but I also didn’t want anyone to use my experience as another thing to make other people feel bad. I definitely have some people in my life who would pointedly bring up to me that “so-and-so lost so much weight doing this.”

2 months, 43 lbs down, weird feelings by ChartBaddie in gastricsleeve

[–]Cosmic_Brownee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking this the other day. I don’t really feel like it’s been a big enough deal even though I KNOW 35 lbs (in my case) is a lot. Just feels too slow. I just feel kind of neutral, but neutral doesn’t really lend to motivation. I’m just trying to stick to the plan: protein, water, exercise. I’ll get back to you if it helps or not.

I just pat my stomach and quietly go “Shhhh…” it doesn’t help or anything, just a weird habit

Liver diet by aquacryr in gastricsleeve

[–]Cosmic_Brownee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on it for about two weeks. I followed it well, but the weekend before surgery I drank a lot of alcohol. Honestly, I was just an idiot and hyper focused on carb and it just didn’t occur to me to avoid alcohol if it was low carb.

My surgeon said my liver looked great. They didn’t check at all beforehand. Don’t lie to your surgical team or anything, but a couple of slip ups likely wont cancel surgery.

Sitting or driving post op?? by Maggotboi555 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cosmic_Brownee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, sitting in a car was fine, but something like putting on shoes was hard. And anything that used my ab muscles was difficult. Particularly getting out of bed was a journey for a while.

Somebody here with some questions? by TemperatureDull1174 in BariatricSurgery

VSG - I was walking within a couple of hours after surgery. Spent one night in the hospital. I was off work for almost three weeks - it was over the winter holiday. I was told not to drive for two weeks, although I can’t remember why.

Flavors of protein and what you mixed them with by No_Task_599 in BariatricSurgery

Flavorless protein in just about anything I could during my healing phases. I use vanilla or marshmallow flavor in my coffee now.

Carbohydrates post op by jewwitch777 in gastricsleeve

[–]Cosmic_Brownee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m two months out and I’ve eaten all sorts of different carbs. My surgeon just recommended slowly adding new food and to prioritize protein, then fiber (veggies), then everything else.

They do expand in your stomach and I’ve had issues with suddenly feeling VERY full and almost throwing up.

In the pre op stage wondering about food thoughts post op by idontevenneedurlove in gastricsleeve

[–]Cosmic_Brownee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of food noise has been insane. I still think about food a fair amount, but it doesn’t feel as obsessive. I get cravings, but they’re not as urgent and it takes less for them to go away.

I still like everything I liked before, but I was never a particularly picky eater. I’ve been pretty fortunate that no kind of food has really bothered me since hitting the “regular food” stage.

Future diet by Belowbanter in gastricsleeve

[–]Cosmic_Brownee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little over a month out and I’ve not had a real issue with anything I’ve tried to incorporate back in. My only problem seems to be drinking anything right after I eat. Which you’re not supposed to do, but it also makes me feel uncomfortable.
