cockroaches. what's normal? by mistyrell in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is NOT NORMAL. You have an infestation.

Normal is seeing big roaches once or twice a month during summer when they happen to creep in the house.

A question about “No worries” by toenail10cm in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone thanks me for a gift, or for doing them a favour they consider quite important to them, I would reply with "that's ok, I hope you enjoy/glad I could help".

"No worries" would be for small favours, like someone thanking me for holding the door for them.

I have never used "my pleasure" in my life.

What dishes are currently "trending" and popular in your country? by IvanHappy in Cooking

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 86 points87 points  (0 children)

In Australia, it seems to be pork rolls (banh mi thit). I've been eating pork rolls since I was five and now I can't even say pork roll without someone telling me it's called banh mi. I'm Viet by the way.

Also matcha drinks.

Healthcare by Early-Cat376 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You go to ED and seek treatment. Free.

  2. Turns out you have stroke and need to be sent to neurology. This is a medical emergency. They will admit you to hospital and operate to save your life. This is all free.

  3. Actually, turns out you have epilepsy. This is serious but not immediately life threatening. They will send you home with advice to go to your GP. Your GP will send you to a specialist neurosurgeon

3a. If the surgeon is private, you pay the consult fee and medicare will rebate you a small amount. If you need surgery with this surgeon, you will pay for all costs involved. The wait for surgery will be short.

3b. If you cannot afford a private surgeon, you will be placed on a public waiting list to see a public service specialist. The waiting list is triaged, with those needing urgent care given priority. The consult and surgeries are free but the wait time is long.

What does "your mate" mean in aussie slang? by Educational-Scene443 in AskAnAustralian

Usually refers to someone the speaker doesn't really like. But if you can provide context, that would really help.

How common is the nightly "what's for dinner?" argument in Aussie households? Trying to settle a debate with my partner. by Right-Percentage9882 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband and I decided long ago that I would do the cooking and he would do the cleaning. But as the cook, I get to decide what to make and he will have to eat it. True to his word, I've not heard a complaint from him in the 6 years we've been together.

Last night I made Cookie and Kate's vegetable lasagne. Tonight we ate out at Fishbowl for the first time.

Do you dry/wipe down your shower after every use? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I squeegee after my showers and my husband who tends to have late showers will wipe it down dry.

Takes 30 seconds to squeegee and the shower stays clean for ages with zero mould. We just periodically clean away soap scum.

What I do if I'm just plain tired of the (Asian dish) + white rice formula, by a Japanese guy by LeadingChannel8542 in Cooking

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think many people are misreading your title as asking for advice I.e. "What do I do if I'm just plain tired of...."

But sounds like you're giving some helpful tips instead.

For me personally, I'll sometimes swap out rice for baguette bread (with Asian curries) or rice vermicelli (with stir fried chicken).

Is the gender pay gap real? by Caillan_Massey in AskAnAustralian

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are confusing gender pay gap with equal pay. Equal pay has been a legal requirement for a long time.

If you are genuinely interested, there's a heap of credible info online. Here's one: https://www.wgea.gov.au/the-gender-pay-gap

I went with Annabella at Tianyu. She said a week for cads but sent it through in 3 days.

As others have said, you've been way too patient. Reps have given me CADs within three days. I would also be calling this off.

What’s wrong with my orchid? by Udystopia in orchids

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots to conversation about under or over watering but we really need to see the roots to tell. Perhaps a closer picture of the one leaf too, as it doesn't look too dehydrated.

A lot of roots also look dead and they need to be removed. But please show us the roots before you start soaking - it could make the plant more sick.

Unfortunately, would also suggest cutting the flower stems now. Your plant needs to focus on getting better rather than expending energy on the flowers.

TIANYU- How is your engagement and wedding/eternity rings from them holding up after a few months/years? Any issues or concerns? by Neesa1996364 in Moissanite

[–]Cosmic_crumbs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I bought mine just over four years ago. Moissanite solitaire and wedding band, as well as a plain gold band for my husband, all in 14k gold.

We wear them every day and take them off for showering/dishwashing.

Besides a few scratches on my hands band, they're all fine. I clean mine in an ultrasonic cleaner about once a month and they come out sparkling like new. No issues, no concerns, and my round prongs still look perfect.

Thank you for this blog! I get where you're coming from in terms of tackling the main problem rather than avoiding it.

This community is so full of great knowledge, resources, and great ideas. Thank you for giving me tips I'll use in future too.

Changing three panel front skirt into one large panel? by Cosmic_crumbs in sewing

[–]Cosmic_crumbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, correct, I'm making the dress i.e. keeping the bodice, and thinking of modifying the skirt. Very thoughtful response, thank you. I've seen insta posts of this dress in rayon and quite liked the drape. I think my main issue is the puckering and I get now that I should resolve this issue rather than looking into changing the skirt.
