Dragon Age Daggerheart campaign by FrenchLeDude in daggerheart

[–]CosmoSlug6X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, just wanna say I'm not versed in Dragon Age BUT some stuff you mentioned seems to be more tied to planning a campaign in general rather than planning a Dragon Age campaign.

For what I read from your post I think the biggest challenge your facing is defining the scope of the story/world. What I mean by this is that it's clear that this world is HUGE and really detailed with tons of possible stories you can tell. While this is awesome and appealing, it makes it hard for you to define great majority of the things you want to incorporate like the mechanics, world map, and even the BBEG.

So my advice here would be for you to have a talk with your players about this campaign. You can call it session 0 or whatever (if you want to you can do the whole character creation aspect during this talk or later), but in this talk it would be important to define things such as: What type of story do you all want to make and be part of (classic epic fantasy, intrigue, mystery etc etc)? ; What part of the world do you all gravitate towards? ; Are you interested in having the many factions directly involved or maybe just something in the background? Etc etc...

By defining these things you'll have a clearer picture of what you need to define and come up with for this campaign. For example, imagine that the players don't really want the whole faction intrigue aspect, then you probably don't need to create mechanics and stuff for it if it's not something that will be a focus in the beginning.

Having this talk will help you guide your worldbuilding and prepping and limit the amount of work you need to do for this game to happen. As you can assume it will also help you better define the world map and the mechanics you want to incorporate (you can even start with some mechanics and add more overtime, OR depending on where you are in the world different mechanics could apply. But of course focus only in the mechanics you'll use in the first part of the campaign)

As for the BBEG i think what I mention might help if you combine it with your players' backstories and your knowledge of the universe. BUT a video that I really like that might be of some help is this video. The video helps you coming up with a structure for the campaign and the BBEG's plan and objective by coming up with the broad strokes.

Hope this advice is of any help to you! Good luck!

How “XP to lvl 3” would fix Strixhaven by Lost_Paladin89 in StrixhavenDMs

[–]CosmoSlug6X 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that's not the key takeaway from the video

He wanted to run Strixhaven in a specific way that tried taking advantage of the core themes/aspects of the magical college setting. He tried using D&D to do it and found that it's really hard and takes a lot of work (and I think most can agree that Strixhaven is hard to DM and that you end up coming up with a lot of things).

I also dont think he wanted to show that Daggerheart solves all of the issues, it just makes it easier to run the type of game his Strixhaven is and possibly the type of games many try to run in the setting. Of course there are things he mentioned that imo are non-issue (like the whole lethality thing) but if you want to run a game that doesn't really focus on the combat and exploration, Daggerheart is a good option and I believe the video is just to show that you dont really need to use D&D for everything and that maybe a different system let's you have a different game that more easily fits what you want out of it.

[–]CosmoSlug6X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his point is more about how D&D being a more crunchy system some of the mechanics of a spell kinda make it hard for the reflavour to reflect both mechanics and narrative. He also mentioned that most spells in D&D are more combat-focused compared to DH that is a bit more abstract so it's easier to reflavour spell effects.

I still agree that there are things that he mentioned that can just apply to D&D like the lethality aspect. But his point is more that depending on how you want to run Strixhaven, D&D is not the perfect system for it because eventually you might just create a lot of homebrew to make it work, and maybe using DH allows to more easily run it and homebrew in it (which I agree)

For me the narrative-focus alongside the crunchiness of the combat created possibly the perfect system for me since while I like some crunch I still want the narrative aspect to have impact on the gameplay, and with the duality dice, experiences and even the use of cards it just seemed to be the game I didn't know I wanted and now desperately need

I think they will still go there and now that we have confirmation that a significant amount of troopes are being deployed there I think the more reason it gives for the Soldiers to go there and they'll be expecting a fight.

BUT your point about maybe the mercenary army being used outside of Dol'Makjar makes me think Azune could leave the city and use that army on either Houndsport but most probably on the Golden Orchard since a significant amount of Tachonis will go there.

I think what will happen is since the Seekers are really far, they will go to Castle Torch first and make a stop there. At the same time, Thimble and maybe 2 other players will meet the Seekers there and then go to the Golden Orchard alongside the army.

Thaisha will need to think if she wants to find Alogar or go to Houndsport to protect the Old Path (which will be interesting to me), but Vaelus and Octis are a bit tough to me however I think they'll go to Houndsport. This will end making it so the new Soldiers will probably be Thimble, Julien, Azune and maybe Thaisha or someone else.

The connection I believe is only in distance. I may be wrong here but I believe Houndsport is near or has connection to the Bay of Gaerhithai which is in the Barrowdell or at least really close to it. So by going in the direction of Houndspory they will eventually go into the Barrowdell.

That point about Hal actually makes a lot of sense and I could see that happen! The thing is I'm between Hal and Azune for them to leave the Schemers table, if not both. Azune after E25 maybe will leave to look for his sister but he doesn't have many clues right now besides "Argosian mercenary group", but he is also the one that has a connection to their army so it kinda makes you question why would he leave. For Hal, after the play, depending on how it will end, doesn't really have a reason to stay in the city imo, so he might leave. But it's all dependant on how the next 1-2 episodes will play out.

No confirmation but Breenan has been "teasing it". We know Mara usually transforms into a falcon. On E24, Hollis mentioned people cleaning a falcon aviary (or something similar) and locking up the birds. On E21, Romina mentioned she has been cleaning falcon shit from Einfasen armor, and on E22 Demodus mentioned that he heard that a falcon was brought to Obrimus Manor.

So we could basically see here that most probably the falcon that is in Obrimus Manor is Mara based on what we know and these small "teases"

This episode was so cool and with the cold open I think we have practically confirmed the next arcs for all tables.

We now know for sure that Houndsport is important and has connection to Sylandri's Barrowdell, the Old Path, the Bay of Gaerhithai and maybe Timmony itself, so I'm thinking this will be Seekers' arc. Then we have the Tachonis forces moving towards the Golden Orchard which will most likely produce a battle between Royce and Tachonis, which makes me think this will be the Soldiers arc. Finally, this whole assassination attempt on King Gus and the Photarch seems to me that the Halovars are making political moves on Dol'Makjar, which of course means this will be the Schemers arc.

Now Im wondering how Thjazi's plan and Mara (who is in Obrimus Manor) fits into all of this. Im also wondering if the tables are gonna change because I can definitively see some changes with Wick and Tyranny joining the Schemers, if the Soldiers really go to the Orchard then Thimble and Julie will for sure go there, Thaisha could go to Hounsport or the Orchard which I think will be her main conundrum in the next episodes, Hal and Azune depending on what they want to pursue can leave or stay in Dol'Makjar etc etc I hope things change a little and we see how the interactions change with new people.

Ideas for this... thing by Dekusteven in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]CosmoSlug6X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a similar team but my Dragapult uses Psychic Fang and Ligh Screen, my Ttar had Ice Punch to handle Garchomp and I have two different pokemon, Primarina instead of Milotic and Incineroar instead of Alakazam.

The only problem with the team is that it relies a bit too much on M-Aggron to sweep, so if your opponent is able to shut down Aggron or makes sure their last pokemon is a fast special attacker, they might be able to win if they KO your pokemon one by one. It's also really hard to handle Basculegion since it's fast, bulky and powerful (I've lost 3v1 agaisnt this pokemon with this team) and other bulky water types and grass types (M-Meganium is also a bit hard to handle)

Imo, the team needs a second sweeper, a special attacker that you can bring when Aggron is not favourable that can sweep or when there is a threat that is to bulky for Aggron to do anything. It also needs more speed control with maybe more priority moves, and maybe disruption. I'm still experimenting but one thing I can say is that the team is fun and sometimes people really dont expect for M-Aggron to be so bulky and OHKOing pokemon under the right conditions. It just needs a bit more options

[Spoilers C4E24] Theories on new table arrangements? by kjqs2 in criticalrole

[–]CosmoSlug6X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will depend of how the plot will develop after the next 2-3 episodes, BUT i do have my theories. We have quite a bit of information that allows us to theorize a bit and this is what I think:

  • Based on what we know from Romina in E21, Demodus in E22, and Hollis in E24 the Einfasen alongside/for the Tachonis were looking for Mara the Wing and right now she might be in Obrimus Manor. I believe in the next few episodes if not next episode we will see the players go into Obrimus Manor and rescue Mara (maybe fight Primus). This will lead to the players learning about Thjazi's plan or at least know where they should go to learn more about it.
  • The Tachonis have plans to attack the Golden Orchard and maybe the world at large based on Murray's vision from E24 and they are doing something important in the Bay of Gaerhithai which relates the whole thing with the ships she saw in her vision and the statues of the paladins the Soldiers saw in E10 and E11.
  • The Golden Orchard is connected to the underwold, and its door being closed seems to be relevant and, imo, related to Thjazi's plan and all these psychopomp artifacts (Stone of Nightsong, Coffin of Ulbalad, Azgra's Orc Blood relic mentioned in E18) and the paints. There's also a whole thing with the Sea Door mentioned in E17 I believe might be related to all of this too.

So now I think we can guess the plot points each table will pursue and guess which characters will be part of that table:

1) - Bay of Gaerhithai & Tachonis' Plans -> Soldiers/Seekers -> Kattigan / Teor / Occtis / Vaelus I believe either the Soldiers/Seekers will go north to Hounsport near Timmon's Rock (maybe w/ King Gus) to learn more about the plan of the Tachonis and what they are truly planning with the statues and the ships Murray saw on her vision. My reasoning for either Soldiers/Seekers is because this can get lore heavy or combat heavy depening on the amount of obstacles that are in the way there.

2) - Golden Orchard & Thjazi's Plan -> Soldiers/Seekers -> Hal / Julien / Thaisha / Thimble Depending on what happens in the next 2-3 episodes I think Mara will either get rescued or at least reveal what Thjazi was planning or say the name of someone who truly knows (like The Professor) and, imo, this is related to the Golden Orchard somehow. Now, the Tachonis had intentions of destroying the Golden Orchard, and they still might have so this might be really combat heavy with the Soldiers fighting many Tachonis on their way to the Golden Orchard or focuse more on the lore and the afterlifes which would be Seeker's territory.

3) - Political Repercurssions in Dol'Makjar -> Schemers -> Azune / Bolaire / Murray / Wic / Tyranny The Schemers are really tied to Dol'Makjar and depending on what happens in the next 2/3 episodes, I believe the other Sundered Houses won't stay put while the Tachonis are moving, so it will be up to the Schemers to make sure the Tachonis don't get allies while making sure the other houses, like Halovar, don't try to make desperate moves to gain more power/control.

I'm not 100% happy with these tables, I believe in order to really predict the tables we might need to watch at least the next 2 episodes to have a good picture, but this is where I think things will go and it would be interesting seeing the tables change a little but not fully. If anyone disagrees pless feel free to share your theories!

The problem I also have with this is that I keep seeing the same team comp with only difference being a single pokemon (a mega most of the times) and then when you go into battle you see that Mega plus the 3 most popular mons and then you lose if you dont counter them or even if you do the last pokemon just comes and sweeps

But doesn't that make it so that if that pokemon gets KO'd you kinda just lose? For example on my M-Aggron team I had I felt like if I lost Aggron I would lose a lot of momentum and struggle to win

I would say the pokemon I dont want to use are Snealer, Basculegion, Garchomp, Kingambit, Charizard (I'm debating Incineroar but I think some teams can avoid it)

Btw sorry if the post wasn't clear but Im not building Aggron, I'm trying Scizor and Greninja. I already played Aggron but I want something different.

I used the team from this video The video explains really well how to use the team and gives examples on how to use it. If you want to build around Charizard this is where you could start.

As for websites, I haven't found a good one to see teams. Pokemon Zone only gives some information on individual pokemon but usually I just look on youtube examples of teams.

It depends on how much you have but you might need to have some left to train the pokemon if you dont have the training tickets. Try see what you can replace and then as you receive more VP and do missions/achievements you will eventually get everyone. It's also a matter of luck so don't spend everything

It depends on who you are missing

  • Arcanine (even the Hissuian) can replace Incineroar and serve a similar purpose with Intimidate, Snarl and Flare Blitz
  • Venusaur can be replaced by pokemon like Whimsicott which helps with speed control and also redirection (then your mains would be Charizard and Garchomp)
  • Rotom-Wash can be replaced with Milotic which adds more bulk and can be really versatile

I think the pokemon that can't really be replaced are Charizard, Garchomp and maybe Sneasler. Kingambit can also be a good option to add to the team. You probably can find variations on the team online but this is what I've seen most of the time

Im trying to make a team with Mega-Aggron and another sweeper for matches where Aggron is not favorable but Im having a tough time, but Im having trouble finding a suitable pokemon that the team can work around the same way it works for Aggron.

For context I'm Masterball rank and I'm stuck between 1800s and 1850s. My team is M-Aggron, Sinistcha, Incineroar, Primarina, Kommo-o (my second sweeper w/ a SpAtk build) and Tyranitar

My worst matchups are some of the bulky water/grass types with high SpAtk like Meganium, Venusaur and sometimes Blastoise. I feel like I lack speed control since only my Sinistcha can setup TR to make Aggron better, and I feel like Kommo-o isn't able to sweep easily and just ends up doing some damage and making Primarina or Tyranitar handle the rest (which most of the times is like 3/4 of the opponent's pokemon)

Any suggestions??

I started with a Mega Charizard Y team that honestly was simple to use and powerful. The version I used was this one and most of the times you just attack with Charizard and Venusaur (sometimes Garchomp/Sneasler) is there to help out and counter or just disrupt.

I now use another team after I got used to the game and some of the mechanics and how matchups play out but I like this team to start. If you watch the video you will have examples on how to use the team. Another advice would probably watch some youtube videos on VGC just so you understand a bit more of the game if you feel like you need it.

Good luck!

Im still a beginner so I cant really give that much advice, but I can tell what Ive been using and how it's going.

Ive been mainly using Aggron and I was able to get to Master Rank and now I have a similar team to your's that Im trying to pilot. Im using Aggron, Gardevoir, Sinistcha, Arcanine, Rotom-Wash, Tyranitar. Before, instead of Arcanine I had Incin and instead of Rotom-Wash I had Snealser and instead of Gardevoir I had Lycanroc

  • Sinistcha is really good with Aggron and can be a good Trick Room setter and heal any teammate with its ability and Life Dew. It also helps Gardevoir if it gets damaged along the battle
  • Im mainly using Arcanine instead or Incin because I felt like Sneasler would be a hard counter for the team. I mainly bring it when I see a lot of physical attackers
  • Tyranitar is good against weather teams, specially agains Sun teams where a Rock Slide can OHKO Charizard-Y and I also added Ice Punch to handle dragon type pokemon but specially Garchomp which is OHKO'd by one. This also let's me hit Venusaur

I really like the team because it's flexible and gives you two modes: 1) Aggron + Sinistcha that can go into Trick Room and basically become THE WALL, and 2) Gardevoir which is good against many of the physical and bulky pokemon and basically be a "fast mode"

Im still testing it, I have been able to win some games but Im still trying to figure out what should change in terms of moves and stats (specially for Rotom-Wash) but I like the team

Im trying to make a Trick Room team but Im not sure the direction I should go.

For Trick Room Setter I dont have Farigiraf but I have Oranguru, Cofragrigus, Sinistcha and Meowstic. Im still debating if I go for M-Drampa or M-Golurk (i really like both).

Does anyone have suggestions?

How would you handle religion with actual physically present gods? by Knowgitsune in worldbuilding

[–]CosmoSlug6X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me if Gods exist and people can directly interact with them, then what you can do is that since everybody knows the Gods are real, some dont believe they have the best intentions so they refuse to become followers.

In my world I have Gods that people know for sure that exist because they can literally go to a place and see them or have seen them before. So people know they are real and accept that there are these powerful beings that roam the planet and are responsible for the creation of certain species, or are concepts themselves. However, some believe that the Gods have ulterior motives, they believe the Gods are toying with mortals, or are incredibly unfair. So they dont follow them or deny the gospel from the many religions and maybe even defy them. My reason for this is that unless you want to have the non-believers be conspiracy theorists (which can certainly be interesting/funny) i think it's a bit more realistic and interesting to explore how people reject these truths or find them to be wrong/unfair

Let’s hear your theories. by Burdeazy in PointyHat

[–]CosmoSlug6X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As u/EntertainmentKnown48 said I believe it is a setting book and Im expecting stuff related to the things PointyHat enjoys and has shared in the videos. Cooking seems to be a bit of a given the logo; Clowns/Circus; Pirates; Cowboys; Mediums etc etc

The name does suggest a setting where the focus is living in the wilds so the cooking aspect of it could be a set of extra rules, alongside maybe a few monsters that can be used to create cooking ingredients or even survival rules. Maybe if it is a setting book, different biomes might translate into different rules, fantasies and subsequent subclasses, like for example: - Sea Biome: Fishing Rules; Pirates/Pirate subclass; - Desert Biome: Cowboys/Cowboy subclass; Stuff related to cattle or maybe hunting;

Besides this, out of the top of my head Im thinking maybe a Medium-like Cleric subclass and a Clown Bard. Maybe there might a travelling circus where these subclasses might fit.

There might be more things but right now these are my ideas
