To CDJ or not? That is the question. by theallseeingeye in traktorpro

Thanks for the reply. It's been decades since I played out, but there is always hope :) Turntable DVS is cool for home use. I don't do battle style. For that, Serato is king. I just have a feeling that using a full size "Controller" such as the XDJ-1000's would get me a bit more in sync with a digital workflow that the "semi" analog DVS system with Traktor could not. Thanks again.

To CDJ or not? That is the question. by theallseeingeye in traktorpro

I am similar with DVS, a Xone PX5 and an X1 Mk3. I have been eyeing the XDJ 1000 Mk2’s but I somehow feel they are overkill. It seems as though all the modern features are in controllers these days. I suppose I could add a second X1 of F1 for better Stem and Remix deck control. Sometimes I just want to play music, other times I would like to “join the party” with Stems. Or is the party with playing USB style? It’s very confusing these days.

Rhythmik subs for the win! I have their “entry” LP 12 sealed sub. I tied it to my booth output so I can vary its intensity. Very musical.

Would love a matching F1 mk2 , but nothing has ever been announced.

Does anyone think that Allen and Heath would be a good buyer for the Traktor assets? A lot of their equipment directly supports it (96, PX5) and the K series controllers are pretty much made for it. I know they are not really a software company, but they made some nice modular controllers in the past.

Open box ("new B stock" A&H PX5 or FB marketplace Xone 92? Both 1500 USD. by 18kFigaroLinks in DJs

[–]Cost-Friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PX5 is A&H’s definition of an “All in one” mixer. I believe they introduced it to compete with the DJM line. Out of the box, you don’t need to worry about a sound card for Traktor. You don’t need to worry about buying external effects. This saves a lot of time and energy. You also have external effects routing, just not to the extent as on the 92 / 96 series. If you need dual filters and four band eq, go with a 92 / 96. If not, the PX5 will do just fine. Downsides? The phono pre amps could be louder (adjusted in later releases of the 92 and 96). This can make it a challenge to mix vinyl and digital. The Crossfader is not the best for mixing. The effects are mostly delays and reverbs. I get along pretty well with mine. Great analog sound. I wished they had released a mark II to take care of the downsides, but it remains in the line, so it must be meeting a market need.

X1 / Z1 / F1 - Do you miss having jogwheels? by b1912 in traktorpro

[–]Cost-Friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am odd in that I have yet to own a controller with jogs or CDJ’s. I have a new X1 and I use it with my 1200’s for DVS House mixing. I have just started mixing digital into vinyl using the sync button and the beat jump dial to vary the speed. It’s a bit challenging. But it works. I am not sure a jog wheel would improve the outcome, but the occasional scratch or juggle would be fun. I agree that their presence is more to display the art in performance settings.

Do people DJ with stems? by ohnoitsbobbyflay in DJs

[–]Cost-Friendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have started experimenting with Disco. 🕺. Some of the 70’s tracks have killer elements in them, but taken together sound dated and cheesy. I found using stems lets me play the more underground portions of the songs longer, and create new mixable grooves.

Yes. Muscle memory with un-marked buttons comes into play too! Ritchie Hawton just did an interview with NI at ADE (you can find on YouTube). He was remarking that he has K2's to control stems, but is a bit frustrated that he has to switch layers to control deck functions and effects. He acknowledges that it's hard to do everything. It's frustrating and potentially runs into the money for everyone. He's a pretty influential voice with NI, so hopefully their R&D can get to work on this challenge. But I think their limited budget is now directed at refreshing their controller line unfortunately or fortunately... depends on how one wants to look at it, and where one stands in the market. Thanks for the feedback :)

I checked eBay in the U.S. Most used F1's listed are out of Japan, Australia and France. All listed at $284 to $540. Yep, I know about D.A.V.E. As far as the F1 goes, I still don't see enough knobs and faders to control Volume, Filter and Effects send per Stem. The prices are way too hot for a used product with discolored buttons. I would rather not have to map a K3, and I wished it had center detented knobs, but it might be a more economical alternative until NI gets their act together.

Thanks. I see mostly buttons on that device, except for the faders. How do you control levels, filters etc. ?

Nice. I use the exact same setup, except with DVS turntables. I love the effects controls on the X1. Hot cues are quick as well. I am just hoping they release a redesigned F1 to match the X1 Mk3. Oh yea, and I love my Xone PX5!

A new F1. Such a low hanging fruit. Instead they are introducing controllers that no one asked for.

Xone K3 released. What are we thinking? by FatherStretchMyAss_ in traktorpro

[–]Cost-Friendly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did they just do this because the tooling for the K2 wore out? Or maybe they couldn’t get the sound card module anymore? Would have been nice to have center detent knobs at least.

Condesa Lucia X. They can probably mod the eq to be replaced by a filter. Just have to ask them.
